[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

Make that four - I put nookhoney04.img onto mine, and much to my dismay got "Enter password to decrypt storage", when I tried to boot from it..

The card is definitely getting written to. I get the sideways "android_" text and and centered "ANDROID" logo during boot, then it jumps to the "password to decrypt" screen.

Just want to say, I got the exact same behavior. Took out the card, re-inserted it,
and then all of a sudden it went past that message. But was practically useless,
everything would FC.

No such luck

I still had the file name from v3 in that command - if you didn't realize to change it on your own, that would explain your problem. I edited OP with v4's file name.

I wish that was it. I changed it over right away so something else is not right.
Should the unzipped, nookhoney04.img go to a special location so terminal can recognize it??
thanks for the quick reply though

I just ordered my Nook Color, should be here in a day or two (caught the Valentines Day Free Express Shipping special - sweet). I'd like to run Honeycomb on a Class 10 SD card, and overclock it as suggested.

Questions:
  1. Should the SD card be SDHC?
  2. How do I overclock it? I found the info on overclocking Nookie Froyo, but not sure if those instructions extend to overclocking Honeycomb.

Thanks in advance for the help.

OK, I'm quoting myself here since no one has addressed my inquiry, which is really quite simple and should be easy to answer. I've never been so totally ignored before on a forum, any forum, any where, about anything. At the very least I expected a "this was already addressed previously in this thread, see here <link>" Did I breach forum etiquette somehow? I even said thank you.

03 worked on my NC, now I get the same thing as you with 04. Also tried reburning. 16gb class 10 Patriot card.

I tried doing this but couldn't get past the screen, even tried doing it twice

have also redownloaded everything, reburned everything, still no luck

Android_

I did all the steps for PC, I shut down my nook color, insert the micro SD, power one, I get a "loading" screen for a few seconds, then it just shows the word "Android_" in the upper left corner. Some help would be appreciated. :'(

I just want to thank everyone from the dev to those that were very patient and answered the trouble-shooting questions. I am not so young anymore :p, but with careful reading and application of the instructions and the problem solving suggestions, I have been able to run my NookColor off the sd card using Honeycomb and reclaim space from the fourth partition on the Sandisk 8gb card. :D No need now to run out and buy that 16gb card I was thinking about. I am very happy with the results and look forward to improvements and changes in the future. Imagine that, a tablet for $249.00 plus tax!!!!!!!

Since there are now 51 pages to this thread which would take hours to search, how about a pointer to regaining that memory on the SD card.

Edit: I found a method in post #449, which describes using Easeus. Does anyone know how to do it on a Mac? I have XP installed in a VirtualBox, but I'm reluctant to use it for a task like this.

So I have a stock Nook Color and I don't want to change the stock software. If I save Honeycomb to an SD and put it in the Nook and it boots up Honeycomb and then shut it down and take out the card will it start up with the stock Nook software again?

Correct. I use Froyo and Honeycomb on 2 seperate SD cards and still boot up on the stock nook all the time.

I did, except it recognizes the capacity as 117 MB. I'm assuming I want to use NTFS file system instead of NTFS? What of allocation unit size?

It is just the way the card is being read. If you plug it in and you should be able to use the Easeus program and force the sizing correctly again after formatting it.

I also have 2 SD cards, one for FROYO and one for Honeycomb but my Honeycomb is NOT working at all.

Any fix for the decrypt password request yet?

I have a lazy question for anyone who successfully made a working foroyo and honeycomb sd card would they be willing to sell me a copy of them. I am okay with computers but some of this stuff seems highly technical. thanks

update
never mind found sd cards for sell on ebay around 40-60 bucks unless anyone wants to undercut their prices

I understand not everyone wants to go through the steps and it can seem a little intimidating if you don't have lots of tech experience, and of course you have the right to buy someone's if you want . . .

But this stuff may not be as tricky as you think. If you give yourself a little time to learn and ask questions, you might be surprised how much you can pick up.

One of the biggest problems, to me, of buying one is that this is constantly getting updated - by the time someone sends you one on ebay, there will be a new version that can do 10 things that yours can't. A month from now, it'll be archaic and obsolete. Whereas if you learn to do it yourself, you can always have the latest version.
