[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

Ok stupid noob question..not sure if it has been answered before. I'm running Honeycomb on my NC from the micro sd card. Now how do I install the Android market app? When I remove the sd card from NC and put it back on to my laptop, it asks to format the card (I dint do it, of course). Also I have not rooted the NC as well....do I have to root it....please let me know how to do this? I will appreciate it a lot.

Thanks

Harish

Ok, maybe I missed something, but the image dd'd (mac) to the 16gig class 10 sd card and it boots android...but it's asking for a password? I've tried all the passwords for my nook, but nothing?

Device Manager Recognizing as NookColor

Ok, I've been having problems installing the .apk's and getting the Device Not Found error on the command line.

When I go into my Device Manager, my NC shows up under Other Devices>NookColor, not as ADB Device or whatever most of the other comments have listed it as.

When I follow the instructions on ADB Over USB - nookDevs to install/update the drivers I get the error: "Windows was unable to install your NookColor. Windows could not find driver software for your device."

Is there a way of changing it so it will look for the proper driver and not for the NookColor driver?

Are there any other tips for resolving this?

Thanks for all the help I've received so far... Sorry none of it has worked and I have to keep bugging you!

Still cannot got adb to recognize the NC to install the market. I am useing command "./adb devices" in the platform-tools folder where adb is located.

I am getting a return of...
List of devices attached

And nothing. I have reinstalled HC multiple times, and tired multiple USB ports every time. Any advice?

Edit. Have also noted a small bug when adjusting volume. Media and Alarm volume both play the alarm noise when adjusted from the system setting, but when adjusting the media volume via the hard buttons it plays the music file like normal. Not a big deal but thought it should be known.

Finally had success using a win 7 32-bit machine. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me. I'm looking forward to a post that directs me to "android adb on mac for really big dummies."

There's a compatibility issue w/ some (all?) 16GB class 10 SD cards. This issue was replicated by several others a little while back... You can read about it somewhere around 30 pages back. No solutions other that switching to a different capacity/speed card. I had the same problem with my Patriot 16GB class 10 card.

Works pretty good. You just have to resize the "data" partition on your sd card or you will have no/no storage room at all. Pretty snappy for a cheap tablet.

Thanks to everyone's great advice that helped me get HC on the NC. Everything is great but i wonderr if i missed something. I have gmail (downloaded from market) but there were no other google apps in the file. Do you think it didnt install properly or are they not available yet? Thanks!

Hey guys. I got HC installed on my SD Card, but Im stuck on getting the market installed. Can anyone provide more info for me?

Where it says:
3. Place the files in your adb tools folder (or platform-tools on the newer version - wherever adb.exe is)

is this on my pc? Im running Vista (gross, I know).

It says to open a command prompt after that. How exactly do I do that?

I appreciate any help you all can provide.

OK I give up. Downloaded the image, installed WinRAR, installed WinImage.

Extracted the file and tried to write to an 8gb SDHC card using winimage the way the directions say and all I get is errore writing disk. Error code 5.

Uninstalled, redownloaded, reinstalled.... repeat the rest 10 times. It looks like HC is a no go for me unless anyone has any idea what else to do???
Probably not same issue, but did same thing to me. For me my Msd card adapter had a lock switch, was as simple as clicking that.

Try Shift+Right Click on the folder.

I have tried 3 different company Msd cards (all 8gb)
On the PNY winimage writes but when put the card in my nook gets stuck with android flashing.
The other 2 cards ( 1 a sandisk) write only upto 4-7% then shut off..

Update on this : Now I have understood that the ADB has to be installed on my windows laptop, copy the apk files to those folders, connect nook using USB, and then issue the command on first page. Is this correct?
If right, 1) should my NC be already rooted to do this? & 2) Do i remove the SD card from the NC before doing this?
If anyone can help me on this, I wud appreciate it.

I bought a Transcend 8gb Class 6 card, and has been good so far. But it shows only 1 GB as free. I read somewhere that I need to partition the card. Can someone point me to the instructions please?

If you are running Windows, install Easeus partition manager and resize the partition to include all of the free space after the "sd card" partition.

Your NC does not need to be Rooted as this process takes place on the micro SD card. If your NC is not rooted, you can pop out the card and it will boot up the Nook as it came from B&N.

The SD card needs to be in the NC for it to install the .apk packages once it is plugged into your computer via USB. HoneyComb will run off your card, if you don't have the card in, then your computer will try accessing the Nook software and not Honeycomb.

I hope that makes sense... I'm a bit tired and rambling...

I need some more help. I cant seem the get the nook drivers installed on my PC (switched over to one using Win7). I followed the directions on this site.. ADB Over USB - nookDevs exactly.

When I go to Device Manager, it doesnt show ADB Device in "Other Devices", it says NookColor.

When I try to update the driver on the NookColor option it says "Windows could not find driver software for your device."

I have no idea what im doing wrong. Can anyone provide some incite for me?

That link was for the original Nook not the Nook color This is the link for the Nook Color

NookColor USB ADB - nookDevs

In the middle of the page I clicked on the link that said There is now an easier way to install the ADB drivers and SDK! and downloaded a version of the SDK with the Nook color USB drivers installed. Then I was finally able to get the ADB to work on my Vista 64k laptop.

Thanks Roberto. But the partition manager does not recognize my sd card. The SD card already has HC. Should i format it to be recognized by easeus?

No. If you format the card, it will overwrite HC. I tried several partition managers and easeus was the only one which I could get to both recognize the card and resize that partition. Gparted didn't even see the card and Mac Disk Utility said it couldn't resize the partition because it used the Master Boot Record.
