[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

Hi, extreme newbie here!

Just tried to burn the sd card on OSX, but got the following:

Macintosh-9:~ grahamgreen$ diskutil list
/dev/disk0
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *500.1 GB disk0
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS Untitled 499.8 GB disk0s2
/dev/disk1
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: FDisk_partition_scheme *4.0 GB disk1
1: DOS_FAT_32 NO NAME 4.0 GB disk1s1
Macintosh-9:~ grahamgreen$ diskutil unmountDisk /dev/disk1
Unmount of all volumes on disk1 was successful
Macintosh-9:~ grahamgreen$ dd if=nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk1 bs=1m
dd: nookhoney04.img: No such file or directory

Do I need to have the nookhoney04.img in a particular location (it's on the desktop now)?
Do I need to format the card beforehand?

Any help is much appreciated!

Best,

Graham

I think I figured it out.... Is this the correct path?

dd if=/Users/grahamgreen/Desktop/nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk1 bs=1m

If the image is on the desktop (normal location when downloading), yes. Alternately you could do (assuming you are in your home directory):

dd if=Desktop/nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk1 bs=1m

or

cd Desktop
dd if=nookhoney04.img of=/dev/rdisk1 bs=1m

For those who need to know... yes it was, you must point to the .img file using the /Users/yourcomputername/Desktop/ path (assuming it's on the desktop.....)

Deleted due to dumbass newbie who was frustrated and pissed off at that point...

Le sigh. I guess me and Honeycomb are not yet meant to be.

I can get a 4gb Class 2 SanDisk SD card working..when it is tethered via USB to a computer. But not otherwise.

So I get a 8gb Class 6 Transcend SD card to try and get stuck at Android_

This is after trying it on Win7 (fresh download of the image no less) and then even on an IMAC. Same sticking point.

:-\

I just can't afford to keep buying micro SDHC cards in hopes of them working. Hah hah.

That link was for the original Nook not the Nook color This is the link for the Nook Color

NookColor USB ADB - nookDevs

In the middle of the page I clicked on the link that said There is now an easier way to install the ADB drivers and SDK! and downloaded a version of the SDK with the Nook color USB drivers installed. Then I was finally able to get the ADB to work on my Vista 64k laptop.

Thanks so much. Felt like an idiot for not realizing that was for the original Nook. Anyways, got everything running including the market on a 4gb card. I think Im going to do the process over on an 8gb card so I have more room to play with.

I copied the file to the sd card. Do I need to use a micro-sd card reader? Or can I just do it through a phone (or a nook itsel)f? Because right now, the nook keeps booting its usual software and not anything I put on the sdcard.
I have tried 2 sd card and tried writing it from MacOS and from a linux box.

Everything worked great till I figured out you had to load the android (SDK ON THE PC), but that doesnt work till you have the right Java SDK, crap, down the slippery slope... etc etc.

I got the damned NC to boot the first time, but if you reboot it, all I get is.............ANDROID.........at the bottom of the screen and it never comes back up.
so go back through the whole process and get it up the first time, put the 2 APK files on the NC and the market doesnt run and the services APK doesnt seem to do anything... I tried to put the wirelessADB on it and it says it's NOT ROOTED ! ok....this sucks...

the instructions are unclear where to load the files and how to find a command prompt on the NC....or did they mean on my PC? it doesnt say, and I dont have whatever the ADB is.... clear up the instructions somebody please! or just make an easier way to do this !

One newbie to another, if you want help you should tone it down a bit. I know you are probably frustrated but trashing the instructions is not going to make you any friends.
IMHO the instructions are pretty darn good.

I have honeycomb running off my SD Card and everything is going well, but there is something that I cant figure out. If I want to add files to the SD card, say a video or a comic, how do I do that? I put the card in a card reader and it only shows about 100MB of free space. There are other partitions, but how do I access them?

Any help is appreciated.

Some people here recomended partioning the sd card in two. I personally used dropbox and keep all my files and music there. I can access everything from my nook.

follow this link to get dropbox: (you get an extra 250MB if you used the link)

installed it in your computer and the nook via the market

heard the full version of android honeycomb 3.0 was released to developers last night. does that mean we will be seeing a downloadable to microsd version for the nook color?

The SDK (sofware develoment Kit) was release last night, basically an emulator. The SDK is used to test and create apps.

The two things to look for is the HC source code release or the Xoom system dump. It should be coming soon, atlease the Xoom system dump will happen tomorrow when the Xoom is on sale.

Original Angry Birds on honeycomb V04

Hey so i was wondering if anyone has a solution for the original angry birds not running on my nook color running honeycomb v04 off an SD, i have downloaded the original angry birds from getjar.com the phone i selected was droid x. i have tried emailing the apk to myself and installing it, no luck, and pushing the APK with ADB, still no luck. Every time i try to open angry birds i get the same message "The application Angry Birds(process com.rovio.angrybirds) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I had problems getting past the Android_ prompt with a Class 4 Toshiba card so I upgraded to a Lexar Class 6 and it worked immediately. Got them both at Office Max
