[HOW-TO] Download/Install Honeycomb to Nook Color (SD card)

I have been using Transcend 8gb Class 6. No problems so far. The only issue is that Easeus is not able to recognize the card in order to partition it. Also I'm not sure how fast it is. I read some days back somewhere, there is an app to check the speed. Can someone let me know what app please?

Thank Roberto;-)

I got it working, in fact I'm typing on it right now!

I used a Sandisc 8gb. The 4gb was too small.
Both class 4. Now looking for a faster card that works....

up and running as well!

Used a 4GB SanDisk Class 2 - actually works quite well.
Have an 8GB card coming tomorrow

Now if i understand correctly the android API level was pushed to 11 in the final version of the sdk. 3.0 is not yet posted to AOSP, but if deeper-blue was to release another sdk image for our nooks based on the final sdk, we should be able to run the tablet based versions of the apps from the xoom dump (example: 3.0 gmail with the 2 pane view, tablet youtube with the carousel view) and all the other "google experience" apps.

So ive expanded the sdcard portion of my partitions, on my sd card running honeycomb v04 for the nook color but i cannot figure out how to transfer files like movies and music onto it, any help would be appreciated
thanks

I upgraded my class 6 to patriot 8 fb class 10 SD card for nookie froyo hoping it may make it go a bit faster BUT couldnot write the nookie froyo image! Bummed I waisted money, I decided to try HC. YEH! working/stable for 12h and overall the browser is zippier than froyo on the class6 card and flash appears supported though videos a bit rough.

OK, this is just weird...

PC user. got the image file and extracted. Using WinImage, I followed the instructions. When I attempted to "restore virtual image to physical drive" I got an error code that access was denied. Side note, the micro SD card is in its adapter that it came with and plugged directly into my laptop.

I verified that the write protect is off on the adapter. Now, the card shows up as "boot" and is only 100+MB.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

ANDROID_ (flashing underscore) and it stops there

I have expanded it using WinRar,7z, and WinZip.
I have used both WinImage, and Win32DiskImager to install the disk image.
I am using an 8 gig HCSD card, (only class 4) from PNY.

I get the Loading . . .
Then the ANDROID_ (flashing underscore) and it stops there.
I have let it stay until the screen goes to sleep, and woken up.
I have powered down and restarted, no avail.

On the off chance that I had a bad card, I have installed Nookie Froyo on the card, version - 0.6.7, and this runs fine.

So I am officially frustrated

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I experienced this same issue on an A-Data 8GB Class6 card. However I did find a fix!!!

1.) Obtain Partition Wizard Home Edition from Download.com (free)
2.) Use this to delete all partitions from the SD card. Then Write Zeros to it (quick mode is fine). (In this program you make your choices then choose apply at the top left and it will process them in the order you had chosen)

3.) Use Windows Disk Manager to format in standard FAT32 format (I did not use quick format).
4.) Use Windows Disk Manager to assign it a Driver Letter for access.
5.) Start again from step 1. on installing the nookhoney image to the SD Card using WinImage.

This worked great for me!!

Still wouldn't work - I'm guessing my card just isn't up to it.
I'll try a different card

But thanks for the suggestion

New card worked fine, this time I used a Scandisk 8 gig, Have no clue as to the class, not on the package, was all I could fine at the local Best Buy.

So I'm guessing it was the card :)

I'm having problems writing to my MicroSD card.

I keep getting the Error in writing disk Disk 2, Error 27: The drive cannot find the sector requested.

Can someone help me with this adb stuff. I've been trying the whole day to get adb and honeycomb v4 sd 8gb transcend class 6 ,1.0.1 nook color to work so I could install apps but so far not luck. I'm using XP 32 bit. Did everything this according to this Easy USB ADB Installer but not luck and still getting these errors when in command prompt:

adb devices
*daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
*daemon started successfully*
list of devices attached
11223344556677 offline

adb reboot
*daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
*daemon started successfully*
error: device offline

adb install Vending.apk
error: device not found

I know my problem is my pc and nook color not talking to each other but I don't know about fixing it. Thanks.

Ran into this problem too. Found that if I powered down the Nook, ejected the SD card and then re-inserted it, it worked again. You may also need to restart your computer, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Celine- What OS are you using? If you're on Win7, got to where your platform-tools folder is located and then Shift+Right Click on the folder... The command line should be one of the options in the menu. I believe Vista has the same functionality.

WinXP can be a bit more detailed, easiest route to run is downloading PowerToys for XP from this site: Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP The "Open Command Window Here" feature will let you open the command window by just right clicking (no "Shift" involved) on the folder and selecting the command line option.

Hope that helps!

Question about Cyanogenmod...

Hey All-

I'm new to this, but got Honeycomb up and running and I love it! Thanks for the great instructions and all the helpful people!

That being said, I have a total nub question. A friend sent me this link tonight: Nook Color | CyanogenMod and I'm curious how it differs or compliments what we are doing here.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, I got everything working.

It recognizes when I boot into Rooted Android 2.1 without SD Card in my Nookcolor when I do the adb devices thing. But when I boot to Android 3.0, adb devices does not recognize it.

How do I go about installing the vending and googleframeservices apk's?

Well, if you have a linux system (or anything else that can read the card) you can just mount the partitions there and drop them in. You might even be able to do it with a Knoppix disk if you have usb card reader that you can use with it.

Just a quick thought....
