[How-to] Guide to Rooting with software version LS670ZVC

It worked!. I used the V9 cab that was posted in another forum: the kdz command line tool fired up the LG software updater. I could see that it recognized that the phone currently had ZVC, and that I was trying to force V9. Then it went through the cycle, restarted, and I am on v9 now. Going to use the LG tool to update to ZVC, then root. Yes!

were you updated ota or did you use the update tool to get to VC?

list of steps so others can try it too?

i think it's been tried (force flashing after ota) but unsuccessfully. there was a few posts regarding this somewhere. they found that the process went further with the lgupdate tool running in the background but still failed to flash anything.

i can't imagine your phone number has anything to do with the update. LG isn't checking with sprints phone number db to see if an update has been push/installed, atleast not to my knowledge and i can't really imagine that.

if it's not the build.prop, then it has to be something else in there that the software checks to see if an update has been applied yet.
I only saw people trying on the KDZ thread and getting frustrated that the file extracting was resulting in an error. I didn't see anyone try the KP500-Utils-En.exe tool mentioned in the LG Ally thread.

According to this XDA thread, they decipher what is used by the LG software updater site and the parameters provided are the Model # and the MEID.

There are various NVRAM information that give you the version information. CDMA workshop clearly isn't using build.prop, but it is able to display the build data and the software version. That is my guess as to what the LG Update Tool is reading. The list of things it says it is reading is almost the same as what is available in CDMAWS.

Okay so let me get this straight. You used the .cab file found at the link below
http://forum.androidcentral.com/lg-...s/52145-how-unbrick-your-phone-using-kdz.html

and then used the method found at this link

and your now back at V9?

Sorry, not being 100% complete.

I had mistakenly updated to the OTA version of VC, because I thought I could root it, then of course it turned out you can't root that version.

I used the kp500 tool to force it to downgrade to V9. This fires up the LG phone update program and appears to force it to update even though it is downgrading.

Just started LG tool and it is now upgrading to the LG version of VC. Nice!

I think he said he got it from Zefies archive, but that one should be the same as the one from the KDZ thread.

Yes kingdavid, that's exactly right. The phone started back up in v9. Just fired up LG Mobile Support and it is upgrading to VC now!

The command line tool worked, SWEET!!! Come on UPS bring on my Optimus with or without VC, LOL

well now thats some good news!

i was thinking purely kzd, not the command line tool. i should learn to read posts better lol

Is This: LS670ZV9_20.S9_20.P60671.cab the cab you used?

Sorry, I can't remember which thread I found the v9 cab file on, I pulled it down yesterday when I was trying to use the kdz graphical tool like others.

I have been using the forum for a few weeks now, never posted anything, but happy to finally be able to contribute. I am not a programmer but feel comfortable with computers.

In summary KP500-Utils-En.exe is doing what KDZ was having trouble at, namely force flash potentially any firmware version you want.

Great find DC!

What are your options if you use the recovery phone option?
