when entering "ren LS670ZV9_20.S9_20.P60671.cab LS670ZV9.cab" the system file can not be found any suggestions to what i may have done wrong? Sorta new to this but have been reading alot! Did not have any troubles getting the "cd KP500-Utils-EN-v0.4.2" command to work.

When you downloaded the cab file, did you place it in the KP500-Utils-EN-v0.4.2 directory?

I just keep messing stuff up. I am scared of bricking my phone I had a Moment and I rooted it but this is really complex. Does any body live in NH that knows how to do this?

Somebody needs to make a Z4 for the new updates otherwise there is gonna be a lot of buildings built with all those mini bricks out there. LOL :)

If you post where you are messing up or getting errors, people can help you. Otherwise it is hard to suggest anything.

ok so i try again, i type in
/sdcard/rageagainstthecage: Permission denied

umm did i do anything wrong... i just updated through lg updater and computer when it had thunder rom on it... sorry for being an android newb

Did you do the chmod 777 in the previous step?

output? dose that mean you want me to type ls "-l /sdcard/" and see what it says???

Precisely. When you get to the step where you do "./rageagainstthecage" don't run rage, just perform the above command and post the EXACT output.

And the command is "ls -l /sdcard/" (without quotes), not ls "-l /sdcard/"

i just tried it and it didn't do anything but popup the same thing i just typed underneath it, i probably put it in the wrong spot but i got to go to school now... i'll get back to it when i get home

ack, error. sorry

replacement post:
I couldn't get rageagainstthecage to work for me on my optimus V. It ran but wouldn't give me a root shell. I tried multiple times, both on my first rooting and re-rooting after I lost my root for whatever reason.
I had to use psneuter instead (from SuperOneClick.zip, available here)
psneuter didn't work for me on the first several attempts, but eventually it 'took' and I got a root shell.
Same process as with rageagainstthecage. Push psneuter to /sdcard, or push to /data/local/tmp, open adb shell, cd to directory with the file
change permissions to 777 (or 755 seems to work as well), run the file by typing ./psneuter
It should kick you out of the shell, type "adb shell" again, if it worked you get the root (#) prompt. If user prompt ($) do it again... and again... and again, until it works.

this pushes your files into new subdirectories on your SD card, instead of the root directory there.
You need to leave the filename off of the second parameter, like this:

hope that helps.

No it doesn't. ADB pushes files as files and directories as directories. Unless you typed "adb push FILENAME /sdcard/FILENAME/" it pushes FILENAME to /sdcard/FILENAME (file, not directory).

Otherwise we would need to run "./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin" not "./rageagainstthecage".

okay, i'm sorry if this is a dumb question but i just got my android phone and i'm switching from an iphone.

i have no idea what i'm doing, i'm not a rookie when it comes to electronics, im just not familiar with android.

i downloaded the tool to my netbook to root my phone...now what? lol

SuperOneClick will not work for LS670ZVC which is what this thread is for.
