[How-to] Guide to Rooting with software version LS670ZVC

I just traded my Optimus V for the Optimus S today and it came with VC, I cant seem to get past step 9, it disconnects once and reconnects but that's it, after that if i try adb shell it says device not found. Any suggestions?

That means you have the VC OTA update, which is unrootable using any known methods. You need to revert to V9, root V9, install custom recovery then update to VD using the LG update tool and decide whether you want to root or simply install a ROM.

Makes me want to return the phone for an evo lol, I guess ill do the downgrade when I get home from work

OK I seem to have hit a wall. I downgraded to V9 (fresh out of the box phone with VC) but my screen goes blank (V9 drivers don't support new hardware apparently) So I guess my question is, how can I root the phone and flash either custom recovery or stock V9 if I can't see the screen? Do I do this through terminal and KP500? Steps? Get back to me, this black screen is pissing me off. Thanks.

Just Reloaded Update which gave me VD to get my screen back, Phone came stock with VC so I probably still have the VC Recovery. Just force flashed VC, waiting on instructions so I can downgrade back to V9 so load the V9 recovery while in back screen.

P.S. Everything works while in black screen, I can even unlock the phone, dial ect.. just can't see what's going on..

So bottom line, when I force flash to V9 how do I flash the V9 recovery so I can root so I can force flash the VC/VD update to get my sceen back?

To view your screen even though you can't see anything on the device itself, use Android Screencast.

To flash the V9 (or custom) recovery, read the V9 revert guide, step (u).

The last 2 posts helped a lot. I'm rooted now and have the custom recovery installed. Did my backup and updating with LG tool now.

Flashed the V9 update and than flashed the V9 recovery. Rebooted into recovery and now the screen is black. Lights up, but remains black, Seems as though the recovery also doesn't have the ability to give screen feedback. Now i'm stuck again. I pulled the battery and tried to reboot with no luck, goes to black screen. Feels like i'm screwed...Start it back up and I get the LG splash screen than right to back screen..any help?

Nevermind. Hit the menu button a few times and got out of the recovery. Going to re forceflash the V9 and install a custom back up, than update back to VC, and begin the root process again. Will this work or do I need the Stock V9 recovery to root VC?

I suggest you read the RED warning #2 for the revert thread in my signature. It gives you details for how to root for devices with the new LCD hardware. Reading gives you more insight into what is going on.

If you are the type that wants to get to the meat and doesn't like reading, flash Xionia CWMA custom recovery instead of stock V9 then follow Part 7 of the ZVD root guide.

Edit: Drew is too fast :)

Believe me I have been reading my ass off but because the phone came stock with the VC and there are hardware issues with V9 and current screen, things started to get more and more complicated. Wouldn't even be asking questions if i could see the damn screen and there weren't hardware issues( my evo took under and hour to root, recover, flash Mikfroyo 4.5, and a more havs Kernel), using screen cast is a pain but it works, have to get back to V9 and flash the Xionia recovery tomorrow, my eyes hurt from all the reading.

I am quite aware of the new LCD hardware issues. I first diagnosed the problem and explained why it was happening. I also wrote up the instructions to minimize the pain in situations such as yours.

Personally I think using screencast makes it extremely painless, but if you think that is a pain, you weren't around before when you just had to do it blind.

There's really only 2 posts you need to read. Warning #2 of the revert thread and a portion of Drew's ZVD root thread, which isn't really as big as it seems, he just covers every combination.

Will I be able to see it on the phone screen unlike V9 & drellisdee? or will there be another hardware issue
If you flash CWMA v4 or v6 you will be able to see the phone screen in Recovery. v5 had a bug where you wouldn't see the screen.

I understand you guys work hard, i understand how much of a pain it must have been to work with the phone "in the dark", the reason I say its a PITA as because of having to look at your computer screen and type in code in terminal to get things to work. I wasn't try to disrespect you or anything like that, some parts of this rooting deal can get confusing. For example, Once I force flash V9 and root with z4root, go into terminal and flash the Xionia V6 recovery, force flash back to VC, one of the posts say if you don't have stock recovery that you will brick your phone but if you have drellisdee's custom that you should be ok, I am assuming the same will be with this recovery since you both are telling me to flash it. Seems that patching root for VD is as simple as flashing file from SD in recovery, def going to take that path. The recovery's were causing me the problem the whole time as I couldn't see the screen but it looks like Xionia V6 fixes that, thanks for your help. should be able to handle it from here....i hope.

The reason the VC rooting instructions display that warning is because I (and others) have seen way too many people attempt to run the Rage exploit on a custom recovery kernel, which obviously won't work. Even if it did work it is absolutely pointless, because both custom recovery kernels give you root access by default.

Technically speaking the VC and VD guides are interchangeable because if you have the V9 recovery running VD, you can use the VC guide to root. Inversely if you have a custom recovery running VC, you can use the VD guide to root.

EDIT: VC guide warning changed to reflect this information.

I'm in version 4 right now, and I have to you screen cast to see the screen. Thought I downloaded V6 but i guess not. Just wanted to let you know.

Recovery and root patch work perfect. Just downloaded wifi tether now I can give the damn phone back to my mother. Thanks for the help.

That's really strange because version 4 is based off the stock VC kernel. Try v6 and post your results.

V6 works, Not off the bat though. Reboot into recovery from terminal after Xionia V6 recovery flash, black screen, reboot the phone to ROM, shut down, than reboot into recovery again before it shows up on the screen. works though, just had to reboot it a couple times before it started to show up. works consistently rebooting into recovery every time now. Thanks for all the help!

P.S. Was going through the phone and noticed that the market doesn't work, gives me an error like "an error has occurred. please try again later" is this the cause of the root patch or the Force Flash VD?

Neither of those could possibly cause that error. Are you connected to 3G or WiFi?

Also, try rebooting the phone and see if that helps.
