Our files may or may not be different. I think as you guys are finding out with the other method, stuff inexplicably varies.

If someone verifies the one i posted works, I'm going to use that as a base to further my work :)
The files are the same

746bc705a6a9a6ea117eebb0e80e744c *ce68c4a9a3ab.LS670ZV9_VC_Inc.zip
746bc705a6a9a6ea117eebb0e80e744c *update.zip

I think we found that stuff "explicably" varies, as KingDavid's file didn't extract, but its checksum was different from DCJoes. Though I don't doubt there will be stuff encountered that can't be explained easily.

you're just going to have to trust me. Theres a method to my madness :p

Doing this now. Update ran. Trying to root. Will update momentarily

Update notes:

finding update package
opening update package
verifying update package
installing update
verifying current system
removing unneeded files
patching system files
patching boot image
unpacking new files
unpacking new recovery
symlinks and permissions

Reboot via menu to complete

writing radio image

Gotcha, well looks like you guys have it all covered. I'll let you keep on your way :D

As stated I did verify a VC to VC update will run. I just tried to root using the method in post 1 and I still get the device not found error.
Hi, could you try using KP500 to force update V9, then manually flashing the V9 recovery.img (from the how to unroot thread), prior to using LG Update tool to flash VC.

This is going on the theory that the *.cab updaters aren't touching the recovery partition, so once you have the VC recovery partition, no amount of KP500 *.cab will undo that, but since you can root V9, you can manually insert the V9 recovery partition, which will get preserved after applying the VC .cab update (using LG Tool)

Sure I'll give this a shot once i'm back home with a lil greenery in me ;) About to leave work so I'd rather not start the process and stay late playing with my phone lol. Plus I gotta finish playing with Exchange in VMWare anyway.

My replacement phone arrived via UPS with V9 on it. As soon as I did the google sign in the 3G dropped to 1G, then my screen went black with writing telling me it was "downloading and installing software for my device, Please wait". I freaked and called sprint for my msid and was able to manually activate. Once I entered that stuff it rebooted but allowed me to navigate, still on 1G I saw that VC update was almost downloaded. I was close to being updated without the option to install later, close call! Anyway OTA disabled and nandroid restored :) If you brick have the replacement sent to your house, it will be V9. To access the phone to enter your # and msid # hit menu, phone will pop up ;)

It'll be v9 until they switch to vC.

Not to worry though, since you can now revert without needing root, you have options even if you accept the OTA update.

Did I miss something in the other threads?... Please explain.
Everything you need to force flash V9 (and presumably earlier) without needing root is here:

Credit cordell and DCJoe for suggesting the solution and being the guinea pig to confirm it works.

Force flash older firmware works. What we are working out is getting the V9 recovery partition back in place for someone who made the mistake of accepting the VC OTA update.

Am working on it right now. Forced it to flash to V9, rooted, and installed v9 recovery. The LG tool is upgrading to VC as I type. Obviously next step is to try the recovery root technique once it installs. Looking at the file sizes it makes sense that the .cab files, v9 or VC, don't have recovery in them- they are about 5 mb smaller than the stock v8 nandroid file, which includes the recovery file of about 6 mb. But that's just a hunch.

Yeah definitely let us know how that worked out for you. I was about to give it a shot myself. So you were eventually able to root then? Had to try a million times or what?

In theory, you could put the stock recovery on your sd card, do the manual root method, run rage to get root, instead of finishing the root, simply flash the v9 recovery, reboot, update with the lg tool, and root in recovery, and enjoy zvc rooted...

Rooted! The key was definitely sfhub's idea to install the v9 recovery, then do the LG update. To ensure adb worked right I actually restarted my computer after I heard the two reconnects and it kicked me out of adb. That worked for me last time and worked this time!

:D Stoked! Good work. I'll have to give it a shot myself. I guess the next step is flashing a custom rom but I think there is only one available for VC

Actually, I only had to run rage once... (though it took a bit to realize the permissions were getting set even with the error) I forgot to flash the custom recovery the 1st time...

Lucky you....the first time I rooted I had to try a good 15 times at least, we'll see how it goes this time 'round. I'm gonna try restarting my computer after the second disconnect/reconnect as well.

OK I'm new at this and a tad nervous, my question is if I updated from v9 to VC can I still root easily? Or is this not a wise move for beginners?
