[How to] Install and Use Clockworkmod Recovery w/Screen captures

The only way to get orange cwm is through rom manager. Stop using rom manager for anything. It is broken and does not work for the Fascinate right now. Don't even touch it. Connect your phone to your computer with debugging enabled, delete update.zip from the root of your sd card. Turn off usb storage, power down phone, disconnect usb cord, pull battery, open ODIN, connect phone to usb while holding volume down button. Flash this CWM-ALL file through the PDA section. Do not extract the file or unzip it. Flash it as it is, in tact through ODIN. Should take 7 seconds. When done, close ODIN, pull usb cord, put battery back in, but don't reboot yet. Hold volume up, volume down, and power buttons until samsung logo flashes two times. As soon as you see samsung for the second time let go of all thee buttons. This will take you directly to red cwm-all. Reboot system now should be highlighted, hit the power button and phone will reboot. Now you will go directly to red cwm-all. Let me say again, do not touch rom manager for anything until you see it posted at AC that is back working and fully functional for the Fascinate.

i'm not too much of a noob so i got the cwm all and flashed it in odin but i think it's still orange. at least my recovery's text is not anywhere near the red color of those in droidxcon's pics in the first few posts

thats why i said to delete the update.zip off your card...either you flashed from rom manager or for some reason you downloaded the update.zip for cwm 3.x from somewhere

it's not on my sd card. it was deleted and i've never once used rom manager. i heard about cwm 3 but never got to it because when i was going to i read that it was broken or wasn't working. i have no idea how i got orange and it's driving me crazy

OK, so at the top of your cwm screen it says CwM Voodoo Lagfix Recovery v2.5.1.x but the text is orange, not red? Sounds like a problem with your phone and the colors, because that is the correct version.

does it boot directly into orange?

yeah, it says 2.5.1.x but the text color isn't really red, i was just looking up cwm 3 to see what the orange is and it's definitely not that color either. it's right in between, a dark orange but not red. i'm wondering now if that's what it is, my phone itself is just weird with the colors.

one thing i am curious about is when i go into voodoo, it says i'm converted but that lagfix is disabled, but enabled on next boot. but it's said that everytime i'm in recovery which is at least once a day if not more

does it boot directly into orange?

kind of? it boots directly into recovery but like i said it's a weird darker orange, not quite red. the thing is i can't tell if it's really doing anything when i select wipe cache or dalvik

wait did you flash one of the new voodoo kernels and then this problem started happening?

That's what it's supposed to say in the voodoo section. If you are not on a nonvoodoo kernel there is no need for you to go into the voodoo section. It is only there because cwm was originally designed for voodoo and modified to work with nonvoodoo. If you are running nonvoodoo, just ignore anything that says voodoo in cwm.

i'm not sure because i didn't know there was a problem. i've been on the ec10 kernel since it came out and i was trying the ec10 with audio and other fixes today but switched back to the stock ec10 kernel

hmm, i was getting mixed up because i'm on a the ec10 voodoo kernel and recovery saying it wasn't enabled was confusing me

You are running nonvoodoo. Jt's new kernels are for voodoo only. You need to stick with Adrynalyne's nonvoodoo EC10 kernel. Voodoo will sometimes automatically convert with the kernel. If you didn't hear a lady's voice during an extremely long reboot, it didn't convert for you.

hahahaha, then i guess i'm alright. maybe my phone specifically is funny with the colors but i was flashing different kernels earlier today when i happened to look at other cwm threads that brought me here because i thought something might be wrong. thanks for your help guys!

i'm pretty sure i'm on voodoo because when i made the jump a little while ago i was sitting in the back of a class and had to hide my phone in my bag because of the talking android lady. at least i know i'm alright because my phone didn't get bricked from flashing a nonvoodoo over a voodoo kernel

voodoo kernels can change color of your screen but non available yet should be able to do this unless those new ones are capable of it

they definitely can't, the newest, modded EC10 only has the voodoo sound improvements and other things not screen/color related. if my recovery works though, than i guess i don't really have too much to worry about.

also, sorry to hijack almost 2 pages of your thread :p

bump, everyone should be reading. most of the questions asked lately could have been answered by reading this over.

Noob Clockworkmod

I rooted my phone. Flashed clockworkmod using odin on my fascinate and got it to work. Now when i go to back it up, it says error while backing up boot image. Anyone know why this could be? I'd appreciate it.

Which CWM did you use? There are a few broken ones out there right now. JT just updated his cwm_all over on XDA that should allow backup/restore along with fixing permissions to work again. Ill see if I can find the link.

EDIT* Here it is from XDA
