[How-To] Manual Rooting of LS670ZVH/ZVJ (+ links to root ZVD/ZV9)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

ok so ive tried to root zvh for about a day and a half now, and no method seems to work. ive gotten rage to run but only from me putting it in a /data/local/tmp/000root folder and chmodding (chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/000root/*) cause it always says permission denied when i try to run rage from 000root in the sdcard....
Are you sure you are running the V9 stock recovery and you are running rage while booted into recovery? I believe in later recoveries they may have disabled running files directly from sdcard.

If you are running VC or VD recovery, rage will never give you root and will just lead to frustration because it will disable your ability to connect using adb, forcing you to reboot the phone.

im on v9 recovery i installed it myself manually, then i returned to vd then i updated to vh, and do what in recovery?

When you returned to vd, under some conditions it would have put vd recovery on your phone. I'm guessing you now have vd recovery.

I would revert back to vd using the 2nd link in my signature (substituting the vd cab file in the reference section), use gingerbreak to root, install the v9 recovery, reboot into recovery, then continue from step #4.

What I meant by doing something in recovery, is you should be booted into recovery when you perform those actions.

Oh, and BTW while you are at it, could you test out the new step #3. I tried to eliminate most major typing to minimize user error.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

step 3 works perfectly fine

and now my phone is rooted lol thank you

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

NIce method but somehow the method is not working for me every time I run the rage exploit, it throws me out of the shell and then I cannot get in the shell again until I reboot.

Also (I dont know but this is what I experienced ) it seems like rage does fairly routine work every time I try to root my device using rage.

What is the problem here? any ideas sfhub?
:confused::confused:

The most likely explanation based on your symptoms is you are no longer running the stock V9 recovery. If you are on stock VD recovery, you can run rage forever and never get root. Also it'll kick you out and not let you reconnect with adb shell until you reboot.

Were you able to perform step #3 with no errors? Did you do anything in between that could have caused you to lose stock V9 recovery?

Alvis had a similar problem and this was my suggestion to him (which worked out fine)
Suggestion to Alvis

Please read Step #2 - Note 1

Press the [Menu] button if you want to reboot into Android and use screencast.

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I was able to perform step #3 without errors and I dont think i might have lost the stock V9 recovery. Anyways will try again from scratch. :-\

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Did all the steps again. same nothing happening also need to reboot to get in shell again. Perhaps this method is not working on my phone :(:(

Could you go over which steps you redid in as much detail as you can?

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

Yes,

I downgraded to ZVD and then flashed the V9 stock recovery (No problems at this step).
And then updated to ZVH.

I then performed factory reset (I dont think it was required, did that just in case).

Finally as said in the post went to V9 stock recovery and then did the stuff on shell.

But the thing is whenever I run rage exploit , it only runs on the same two PROC parameters(3072,3072) no matter how many times I run it after that I cannot get in shell again unless I reboot the phone.

Thanks for helping :):)

Re: [How-To] Rooting LS670ZVH

I have no PC.
I got the stock recovery flashed using terminal emulator from the Optimus S community build.
I have the new screen, blindly ran update zip.
waited about a minute or two pressed the menu button
phone reboota, lg logo blinls on/off 3 times, in a few more minutes I'm running
ZVH, just fine. now I guess I MUST have a pc to root?

You don't need a windows PC, but I believe you do need adb on some platform because IIRC rage exploits adb itself. You might be able to substitute psneuter. I forget which exploit that goes after.

What process did you use to downgrade to ZVD?

You didn't mention it, but you did root ZVD first before flashing V9 recovery right? It would have had errors if you didn't so I assume you did.

This is what the output is supposed to look like
C:\zvhroot>adb shell
$ cd /sdcard/000root
cd /sdcard/000root
$ ./rage
./rage
[*] CVE-2010-EASY Android local root exploit (C) 2010 by 743C

[*] checking NPROC limit ...
[+] RLIMIT_NPROC={3372, 3372}
[*] Searching for adb ...
[+] Found adb as PID 62
[*] Spawning children. Dont type anything and wait for reset!

$
C:\zvhroot>adb shell
#

Now just to confirm, when you do the last "adb shell" and are saying you can't reconnect, are you waiting for the USB ding sounds to complete or are you trying right away. It might not let you connect right away, but after a few USB dings, it should.
