[How to] Root Samsung Infuse **5/19/11**[Windows & Mac]Now with GingerSnap!!

AWESOME!!!

Bookmarked the permalink for these instructions - thank you!

Question: I ended up using SuperOneClick to unroot (not either of the methods you posted above). Would your unrooting method posted here work for me? Or I would have to use a different method because I used SuperOneClick to root?

i dont know where superoneclick places things so i am not sure i would need to look into it. ill let you know soon , i need to update the unroot now anyhow lol

[WARN]Semi Auto Root has been retired!! GingerSnap has replaced it in the OP , this is a one click root.

Thank you

I don't mean to be the noob here...but I followed the instructions properly (I think) and When I run Gingersnap utility there is no activity on the phone at all. I reinstalled all drivers to ensure they were there. The utility itself, however, cranks my computer up to 50% CPU and is saying "stealing the ginger's soul" for several minutes with no noticeable activity on the actual phone itself. Am I doing something wrong? Am I just impatient? I would be greatly appreciative to anyone who can help. :) Thanks!

is your phone in debugging mode? try pulling your battery and trying again

Yes USB debugging is active. Application is now appears to be stuck on "setting permissions". Phone performance is mildy slower. Not sure what is going on here.

Okay. So I figured this out. You should reboot the device before doing any of this. If you do not reboot you will not get "usb connected" on your device. USB connected (as seen under the notifications menu) is imperative because your computer CANNOT communicate with your device, obviously. I didn't notice this until I rebooted the second time. I tried disconnecting previously and then reconnecting. This caused me to lose the "usb connected" notification alongside the "usb debugging" notification that seemed to be always present. Device is now easily rooted. :) Thanks to the dev!

Just got the phone two days ago and this is my 1st android. ive jailbroken almost every firmware of IOS on my iphones. Gunna attempt this from work. lol

I'm a noob to rooting

Hi. I am a noob to rooting and I have a few questions. First, if I root my samsung infuse using the adb way or the one click root way will this erase everything on my phone? Second, how can I prevent erasing everything while rooting? Third, if I need to unmount my sd card how do I do it? Fourth, will this include s-off and access to third party apps? Fifth, can this make my phone slower or have anything wrong with it? Thanks for the tutorial. Very easy to follow. As soon as I know these answers I will root!

no it will not erase anything on your phone... if your card is mounted you can simply unplug the usb cable and plug it back in and dont choose to mount it

Great thanks! It will not erase any contacts/games on my sd card/phone if it is mounted right?

For safety's sake you should remove your SD card prior to using GingerBreak or Gingersnap, as a few users of various devices have reported their sd card being erased/formatted. After successful rooting, you may reinsert your SD card and proceed as normal.

Any apps/games/contacts that are stored on your phone (as opposed to the SD card) are safe.

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!! For safety, should I export my contacts to my sd card, too? Just in case the phone does get formatted while rooting?
