How to Root

I followed the steps several times and can't get my Fascinate rooted. I took a video of the whole process using my brother's Fascinate to see if anyone can help me. It's loading to YouTube right now...

I have a mac and was attempting to do the mac root but i was having trouble so I attempted to do it on a windows computer and am Still having issues. I believe it is the same thing. It is saying i do not have permissions. I took screen shots of the commandprompt window with all of the coding it provided.

I'm hoping this is an easy fix. Also when I connect my phone do I have to mount the sd card to my computer? I have tried both ways and still cannot get it to work. I have downloaded the firmware, have debugging turned on, and am using the original usb cable.

Thanks in advance,

iTz I watched the video. Ok so...

First thing. Sorry it took me so long, out of town at a VW Beetle Bash '10. They had some hitting 120 mph at the quarter mile....

I took that.

Anyways,

Try this, before you run the root file mount your SD card. I noticed that it was not showing up in your 'My Computer'.

Mount the SD card and make sure your computer can see it. Then try to re run root file.

To Mount it select the first USB selection in your notifications (not the one dealing with debugging) and select the option to mount it.

**I would also recommend that you choose the Stay Awake option under debugging so your screen and phone do not lock.

The reason it is saying device not found I believe is because you do not have your SD card mounted so the computer can recognize it. That is the only thing I can see that might be causing your rooting to fail. If that is not the case then we can look further.

I am confused on how to properly deroot my phone. I see the instructions on the first page...But I am confused on how to properly access that info.

Thanks for helping a noobie.

I know I've posted in here before, but god I want to root so bad, debloat, improve battery life, get a theme, etc. But I need someone to help me through it (as I do it, not just by reading on a forum) and I've never found a volunteer. :(

Actually yeah. The process you are using is spot on. So its time to look elsewhere. Open the start menu, right click on My Computer and go to properties.

Once you are there Click on Device Manager. Find where you android device drivers are for USB. Post some screenshots if you can.

I just had this issue with a friend of mine's Droid X. We looked at the drivers in device manager and one or more had yellow exclimation points. Meaning there are issues with the drivers.

Did you make sure the phone was set with keep away enabled?

Sure, I will add you tonight when I get home. Here in the TS lab they block Gtalk application...Silly DoD. But I can use it through iGoogle rofl.

Haha! I've never gotten used to iGoogle. Not much of a fan of it.

But thanks. Tomorrow I'd love to talk to you about all of this and I will be sooo grateful. Thanks so much for being willing to explain it to me. I know I'll get it quickly and understand all of the elements if I just have it explained and can ask questions, etc.

I'm going to give it a try on my own, as I use TouchWiz most of the time and I'm getting tired of seeing all the bloatware.

So, can I root, rename the .apk's that I don't want, then unroot and everything will be like normal? The only reason I want to unroot is because when I test out my apps that I create, I want to make sure they work on an unrooted phone.
