How to Root

I'm hoping they will have a new method soon. I just can't do the command prompt stuff. Everytime I try I get the device not found message.

Swyped via Fascinate.

omg people i thought i was the biggest noob on this site, just got my first android phone, just found out what rooting is and what it can do 2 days ago, so i wanted to root. came to this thread and dirrks first post for the directions is so easy. just read one line and do what it says, then go to the next line and do what it says etc. at the prompt its pretty much automatic from there, thats it. only way for this to be easier is to get dirrk to come to your house and do it for you.

For those who have errors, please make sure you MOUNT the SD card.

I looked through several pages of the threads and did not see this, but figured if the computer cannot "see" the drive it cannot copy the files! LOL

Make sure you are NOT set to mass storage. Although I am not quite sure which other to choose.

I'm going to go ahead and say this method will not work anymore since the last update to DIO1... unless otherwise I guess I'll be waiting for 2.2... sad the lag is so bad on this phone with out the fix.

I used this method after the update. Worked like a charm.

Make sure you have the right set of SAMSUNG drivers installed. i.e. 64bit versus 32bit.

I would also make sure they installed right.

This method does still work as I just tried it again and it worked :)

Also, this is all done from the computer not from the phone.

so what do i put it on LOL, i know i know, anyway yes when i plug the phone in it says device drivers are installed sucssesfully and are ready to be used. I installed the 32.bit since im on a hp lappy and use vista.

sorry to keep asking, but i rooted my Droid x with zero problems this way, and i really need this lagfix lol, so sorry again and thanks for helping =(

I have an ASUS Lappy that is 64bit Windows. I accidentally installed the 32 bit and it didnt like that lol.

In my opinion the Lag Fix is not worth it. I have read where it caused a lot of problems for people when they tried to undo it, including me. It soft bricked my phone when I added the "disable_lagfix" file.

If you are using a method of lagfix that is not from Voodoo then I would think twice. The Voodoo lag fix works great but disabling it is not always smooth....lol. The official Voodoo Lagfix for the fascinate is not posted yet on Project Voodoo Project Voodoo

I am not sure how much more simple I can make it hehe. As far as I know there is no one click method. The method in the beginning of this thread is pretty close though and it does still work after the Update.

Just try all the modes for USB Connections until one works even mass storage making sure the SD card is mounted.

Also for reference but i'm sure you have read this already:

1. Check to make sure you installed the Samsung Drivers
2. Make sure your phone is connected using the original cable that came with the phone
3. Verify that debugging is enabled.
4. Try to run it again
5. If you are receiving errors then your phones drivers were not installed
6. If you are having a different please post here so we can help you.

Finally if you need more immediate help then check on irc.freenode.net #samsung-fascinate

Some times you have to just keep trying.

ok thanks you sir, im reinstalling the drivers now to confirm the action has worked... and the only other option other than mass storage is media sync...

so you dont use any of the lagfix's ?? i've been hearing it fixes everything laggy with this phone lol

I didnt when I had the Fascinate I mean I tried it for a week but it soft bricked my phone when I tried to disable it like the instructions said. I chalked that up to the fact there isnt an official one out yet. In the end though lag wasnt an issue as every phone lags. Even the Droid X which I have now. All of the other lagfix's that arent Voodoo do not work right. The Voodoo lagfix's do. But there isnt an official one out yet for the Fascinate.

yea so its still not working =(
it has to be in storage mode or the drivers wont be recognized, i'm at a loss now

Oh ok. No you don't put anything on the phone.

Take the zip file on you computer and open it on your computer. Do it on the computer with your fascinate plugged in...it does it all for you.

Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk

and when i put the phone into media sync mode for what i am assuming is pc mode also. my pc is not rrecognizing the samsung
