When i hit step 4 it hangs and wont do much of anything.

then it just stops.

do you have the folder extracted (download in the op) and the files inside that folder (from the op) inside your "root" folder? if not, nothing will happen as it cant find the file to push

Someone please explain as if explaining to someone that's never even heard of this before. Things like "path" (what and where), and when run the cmd and get to part of typing adb shell, it doesn't recognize that command. Excuse my ignorance, but someone please help and explain in a little more detail. Very frustrated! Thank you!

Im brand new to Android and Ive been trying for about 3 days to root my LG Optimus S. This is where I get stuck at. Im not sre what to do from here or if I'm doing something wrong. When I continue to Step 9 and Paste it in my CMD window It just copies what I paste...can you please help me? Thank you in advance.

You're both being impatient. Sometimes the exploit can take a few minutes to work. You need to wait until you see the # sign.

How long is a "few minutes" for step 9 (./gingerbreak)? I have given it almost 25-30 min and I still dont get the # prompt back. All drivers were installed, and I can get through steps 1 - 8 easily.

I also don't have a SD card in the phone. Is that required for the rooting process?

This only works for the ZVD, You have to follow the ZVH rooting guide found here:

I plan to develop some apps once I get it rooted... but cannot seem to get the SDK
