[How To] Unroot and return to stock [RUU Method]

I'm at my wits end

First off, please forgive me. Obviously I am newbie, noob, boner or whatever an inexperienced Android user is called who probably should not be messing around with rooting. I feel I have done my due diligence by reading posts on this topic (including this one several times) but just not getting anywhere. I have tried just about every suggestion but still not having any luck unrooting and getting back to stock. My goal is to bail on rooting, install Froyo and live happily ever after. With that said, here is my situation:

I have Unrevoked 3 installed

Firmware: 2.1-update1

Baseband version: 2.05.00.06.10

Build Number: 1.47.651.1 CL195459 release-keys

Software number: 1.47.651.1

Is more of this type of information needed?

I started off by following the steps at the beginning of this thread. I downloaded and installed HTC Sync from the link provided (although I never noticed it doing anything during my many attempts at this unrooting). I took a guess and of the three RUU?s available for download went with RUU Supersonic 1.47.651.1 Radio 2.05.00.06.10 release CL195459.exe. (matching to numbers off my EVO). After several attempts I never made it past ERROR [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR. I am able to connect to HTC Sync...

Next I read about installing SimpleRoot, then following the steps at the beginning of this tread using RUU Supersonic 1.32.651.6 Radio 1.39.00.05.31 release 171253 signed.exe. It looks like many have had luck this way. Not me. Hell, I am having zero luck getting SimpleRoot installed! I get to the red screen on my PC. EVO gets to a point where it is ?checking (PC36IMGzip)? but never installs. After a few minutes it reverts back to the bootloader screen. I have tried that several times with the same failing results.

I realize I have written a novel here. But if there is any more information I can provide to get unrooted from Unrevoked3 and back to stock, please let me know.

Thanks!

You can try to flash RvU's first rom...it's stickied. Then follow my post a couple pages back...about using Simple Root...then the 2nd in the list of RUUs the signed one. But you might be SOL since you have a Froyo rom installed.
Where and what is RvU? Where is it stickied at?

If you flash rvu you'll be good. As far as I know if you wipe. You can flash any Rom, even between versions.

Install the original 3.2 rvu.
Then run the original ruu
Update to your hearts content

Where can I get the original 3.2rvu? What is the original ruu?

Thanks

Right now you are in the HTC EVO 4G ROMs/Hacks section of the forum...go back out to all the listing of the threads of this section...look at the top of the page where stickies are always kept and look for the word RvU right smack dab in the title. Read that thread.

Follow the Simple Root instruction to completion...steps 1 through 4 inside the program then come back and do the signed RUU listed in the link.

Newbs/Unrevoked 3 guys! Not being an a$$, but please look at all of these and complete all of these in this order.

Step 1. Simple Root follow to completion...at the end of step 4 you will get this long string of weird words and symbols this means you are completed. Go here for question, don't fill up this thread with Simple Root questions.

http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...-1-47-651-1-stock-rom-no-adbs-check-here.html

Or for everyones benefit...so you understand what is actually going on, go here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701835

Step 2 Come back here and use the following linked RUU. Ask question about RUU's in this thread.

http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Sup...Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.exe

Step 3 OTA up to where you want to be 1.47 or Froyo. Must have 1.47 installed to install Froyo. Ask those questions over there, don't fill up this thread with Froyo update questions.

Look people, You should really understand what your doing when you press the button. As i told my brother when he jail broke his Iphone 4, there's no magic "root or stock" switch in your phone.

Pressing the button that says "Root" Doesn't flip that nonexistent switch. There is actually a lot of coding, and commands that are put in for you, and could potentially be malicious. But all that aside, by using a one click method you don't learn what goes on behind the scenes. If you pushed your files, and installed through the boot loader, and flashed a recovery through adb, like every who rooted their phone the long way, then problems like the one addressed in this thread wouldn't be here.

I'll admit that I've mistakingly suggested the use of these one click methods, mostly because I've been too lazy to go through the motions oh helping people do it the long way. That being said 90% of all the threads and issues people are having, are from people who are using one click methods.

Keep this in mind. You can still use simpleroot or unrevoked. But read the thread stickied above entitled "[How to] Windows-- Full root and install recovery". And then read the thread over at XDA regarding rooting via flash exploit if you've installed any OTA.

All of the guides are specific, step by step, and if followed correctly give you the root your looking for. However even more valuable than that root, is that they teach you how to troubleshoot many of your basic issues yourself.

+1 This has definitely helped cut down on the questions. I gained root the "long" way first and accidentally got the 4g loop because I didn't wipe (eww gross!) first. Going through the long process allowed me to understand what was going on so I could solve my own problems by knowing what answers to look for on the internet. It was invaluable and I was able to solve the problem because I knew how to use adb. That in itself is invaluable, especially because I came from windows mobile and most recently WebOS.

This also might help for those that are having trouble and want to be stock Froyo. Not sure why since I am enjoying my rooty (is that a word?) goodness, but this link seems pretty straightforward and covers most of the problems I am seeing people having.

How To UN ROOT. TUTORIAL. Your Problems are solved! - xda-developers

This basically what I posted two posts back...but thanks! I agree with your posted link and goes along with what Liquidjesus and I are say...read, read, read...it will save you a lot of frustration in the end. But first...TAKE A DEEP BREATHE...99% of the time you will be able to find your way back out of it. Just may take longer.

Sorry to contribute another 'How do I unroot" question but I am very confused and want to make sure I got this right before I proceed.

I used Unrevoked 3 when I had 2.1 with the ota update. I then installed the leaked .3 froyo update and broke root (Bad on my part. I couldn't wait).

So now I want to reroot and to do that I know I need to get back to 2.1.

I want to confirm that installing HTC Sync 2.0.33 on my PC and then running
RUU_Supersonic_1.47.651.1_Radio_2.05.00.06.10_release_CL195459.exe (july 4th) and then running Unrevoked 3 again will get me back to where I was before .3 update.

(I realize that some people dont recommend Unrevoked but it has not failed me when I was rooted. If you want to convince me otherwise I will listen.)

Thank you for any assistance.

UPDATE: I tried this method anyway and got: 140 Boot loader version error.

Phone then restarted to my old setup. :-(

The reason why you can unroot on 1.47 with this method is because 1.47 AND before are rootable...any thing higher is not. As it sits right now, you can not go any where but up. Meaning the only change you can do is use the .6 RUU in the sticky since neither one is rootable. So sit tight until they root .6. So what you are asking is not possible yet.

I've been trying this method over and over; all I ever get is USB Connection Error. I've gotten it at least twenty times in a row now. I'd appreciate any help :\

I installed HTC Sync from the link and am running 1.47.651.1 Radio 2.05.00.06.10 release CL195459 on my Evo. I downloaded the appropriate RUU and ran it after my phone was on the triple-android screen, but I get the same error every time. I've uninstalled/reinstalled HTC Sync and all drivers 3 times. USB Debugging is enabled before I restart.

Weird thing is, I downloaded one of the older RUUs and it got past the part where I always get stuck. It eventually stopped and told me to use the correct RUU though.

Thanks much in advance for any help, I'm very lost :[

Did you root with unrevoked 3? If you did do quick search of this particular thread...and I give you exactly how to solve this issue. Let me know how it turns out.

thanks to whoever made this thread. I followed the directions from the first screen and got it to work on the 1st try.....much appreciated!

Are these instructions still valid?

I need to take me phone to the service center.

I'm fully rooted via toast method ? (followed a 52 step process that did not involve adb)

Also I'm going to take this opportunity to buy a larger SD card. Do i just copy past the contents of my old one and put the old one back in blank?
