HTC battery thread

Does the HTC Messaging app bug effect the Eris? Also, is it the widget, or the actual application itself? Sorry if this is posted elsewhere, but I did a search and didnt find anything. Thanks!

iGo Charge Anywhere portable battery charger

I saw this online and thought it might be good for some of you who do not have access for a car or USB charger.

"iGo" Charge Anywhere at iGo, Inc.

I bought my car charger from Best Buy and while the tip did not visually match the jack the Eris has, it did functionally fit, so I'm assuming the tips that this web site has for the HTC Hero etc. will fit the Eris as well. The Eris tip is the rectangle w/one corner flattened. The tip on my car charger is more like a hat - a rectangle with two flat pieces coming off of the bottom on each side. It doesn't look like it will fit but it does and it works.

I've never used this but it looked like a good option and had favorable reviews on FoxNews.com (link below).

Battery Power Issues...Sucks

Default Eris and its battery issues
Why does this phone have such a poor battery life? This is beyond me and why do us customer have to go trough so many limitations just to be able to use this phone?

So you go into the store to purchase a smart phone because of its options and capabilities but then it runs out of battery every 5 hours. What the hell do you want all this options if you cant use them? I mean you have to lower the screen brightness, turn off bluetooth, turn off wireless connection, take some notification capabilities off, set the email pull to 30min instead of say 5min....this is ridiculous...isnt? Why is it that if companies are aware of the battery problems that is usually found on google phones make the new ones with a better battery life by say...i dont know....GIVING THEM MORE OR A BETTER mAh!!!!

Yes Im going to bring Blackberry bcause even thought they are in my opinion behind the game when it comes to UI (Android, WebOS, Iphone Better OS) their hardware and battery life is freaking superb in everyway. Yeah they had some issues with trackball, god even they are aware of this but in general they are right on the ball with everything else. I stopped charging my Curve 8900 3 days before getting the Eris because I had put the charger away already and that thing almost lasted all 3 days. Running Socialscope, a weather app, a facebook app and an IM client 24 hours...none stop. I was also getting emails and SMS all the time and that thing just freaking stayed on...it was incredible. Now I just got the Eris which Im in love with too but the battery problems is just not letting me enjoy this thing. Anywas I just wanted to let that out I doing some re-search trying to find a bigger battery and hopefully that will make my experience a little more enjoyable.

If you know of a place or a model of battery that would give more life out this phone please let me know.

Thanks

I conditioned the battery from the beginning, just as I did my laptop. The result is good battery life.

I just got my Droid Eris on Friday(11-27) I took the Verizon salespersons recommendation of allowing my phone to completely drain, then charge for approx 12hr, and repeat a couple times, which seems to have worked.

I get pretty good battery life considering some of the horror stories that I have heard. I have been getting a full days worth of charge, approx 7AM - 9PM, with quite regular use of apps, txting, email and phone calls. I then put the phone to charge overnight and its ready to roll the next morning.

Moral of the story, if you have the luxury and patience to take the time to do so, I would recommend doing the drain/charge cycles a couple times as a few others have recommended.

However, I do question to some degree the true need for a drain/charge cycle since these are the Lithium Ion Polymer batteries and I was always told that it didnt really do anything, except for on Nickle-based batteries.

Well my phone got better after the full fist charge. Unplugged it yesterday am bout 8:30am, turned off wifi,3g,gps and bluetooth. Brightness is about 80% and the backlight is off, and screen goes off after 2 min. And I kill all unwanted apps with the free version of advanced task killer. I dont have wifi at work, and service kinda sucks in the building anyway. I turned on 3g about 2, and at 8pm I still had 60% battery. Trying to kill it all the way down, I turned everything on and played 2 movies to kill the battery. 2nd Full charge last night, we will see how it goes. The battery life is not the greatest but if you were on your computer for 2-3 hrs the battery is gonna die, and your gonna have to recharge it.

After three days of use with the 1750 mAh Hero Siedo battery it holds up perfectly. I take it off the charger in the morning around 6:30 am and after a heavy day of use it is at 20% or so around 10pm.

Hello All,

Thank you for your interest in our products! We want to let you all know that we are preparing to launch a full line of accessories for the HTC Droid Eris as well as many other Android handsets! Please keep a close eye on this forum for the most up to date information and product details!

Will this larger battery require the use of a modified back cover? BTW what will be the battery size of the extended battery?

has anyone tried one of the mugen batteries? Point is it sounds like there is extra room under current stock cover to at least boost battery to 1600 or so without a new cover and the need for a case to hide the fit.

Anyone heard of any other people sticking in other batts?

I put the Innocell 1750 extended battery for the HTC Hero into my wifes Eris and it fits great with the exception that the case does not completely snap closed on the sides, just the top and bottom. However she uses a silicon case she purchased from VZW and with the case on you do not notice the back at all. And it doesnt effect the volume buttons on the side, everything works great. As for battery life she went from charging it half way through the day with moderate use, taking it off the charger around 6am, to now were she goes till about 10pm and the battery is still at about 20 - 30%. No charging during the day and still moderate to heavy use.

However, I do question to some degree the true need for a drain/charge cycle since these are the Lithium Ion Polymer batteries and I was always told that it didnt really do anything, except for on Nickle-based batteries.

The drain/charge cycle is not for the battery but for the battery meter on your phone (the little battery icon on top). The cycle helps calibrate that but you would really only need to do this twice or once. There is no need to do it more than that.

I use and like the IGO charger system especially for travel although it's also helpful in the car. I found that the A53 tip I had for my GPS charges my Eris as well. Amazing-- I don't need to buy a new tip!

Just few things to reaffirm what I've seen so far (ps, didn't read thru the hold thread so, please hold on to your flame throwers ;))

1. Definitely cycle the phone about 2 - 3 times. You WILL notice the difference. After the 2nd cycle, it took me about 24 plus hours to completely drain the battery.
2. Add the short cuts Wifi and Bluetooth on/off to any of your home screens and turn off when not in use. That will extend your battery life even further.

On a side note, I finally deleted all my sms texts that I've had for about a month + and man oh man, there is no lag in any app, contact settings, text messages. The response is just instantaneous!!!

end post~

This is posted on PhoneNews.com:

"Verizon has begun uploading and staging the long-awaited Motorola Droid and HTC Eris firmware updates for rollout over the air in the next 48 hours according to reports received today.

"Preliminary confirmation suggests that the Droid update does indeed fix the autofocus bug found last month as well as improved battery life, audio quality and a new unlock screen.

"As previously reported, the updates for each device address multiple issues encountered since launch early last month, the biggest of which concern the aforementioned autofocus bug found on the Motorola Droid and a general maintenance update for the Eris before being updated to another Android version in the first quarter of next year."

This wording is not terribly clear, but it could be that a battery life fix is included in this OTA rollout in progress now.
