HTC One (M8): My battery life sucks what's wrong?

Re: My battery life sucks what's wrong ?

Do checking these help with battery too? Mine aren't checked should i check them?
I would check your Advanced WIFI settings and make sure you have "WiFi Optimization" and "Auto-switch to mobile network" selected also.

I agree I don't see how anyone gets 30 hours unless there phone is on standby all the time. But I can say with this phone I haven't had to charge it at work since I've had it and my signal sucks at my work. I can't text unless in a certain place and I always turn off mobile data and get on my works guest wifi and then I seem to be ok. I know some people keep both mobile data and wifi on all the time I just keep on the one I am using at the time.

I can't stand when someone claims they got 30 hours with heavy or moderate use. That is impossible. A true power user barely gets a full day of battery on a light use day. Look at battery tests 8 hours on screen time kills virtually any phone battery and a true power user does this every day.

Sorry to res an older thread. I have a Verizon M8. I'm coming from an HTC Rezound with extended battery. My observed drain with the M8 seems to be about the same as my old Rezound. I've configured my brightness and sync settings to be fairly minimal. I installed GSam to keep an eye on power statistics. I'm surprised I am not getting that much usage time out of my M8 than I expected (maybe my expectations were high), based on the GSam my phone has been using power in the following manner:

Screen: 55.4 %
Phone Radio: 15.3 %
Apps: 28.3 % (sub-allocation 14.7 % Dolphin Browser, 4.2 % Kernel (Android OS), 3.5% Android System, all others < 1%)

Average Per Complete Charge
Battery Life: 1d 10.9h (6h 29m Active)
Screen On: 4h 20m (2h 14m Max)

Do these statistics seem normal or low? I've heard AT&T and T-Mobile M8 users have been getting better usage out of their battery in terms of performance. Do you think the performance statistics of my battery are normal for a generic M8? How about a Verizon M8?

You're battery seems pretty good, considering you have 1 day and 10 hours of standby. Try using the screen for as long as you can in a row and say what your Max SOT is.

Hey everyone, I've had my m8 for about a month now and really haven't been impressed with the battery life so I've been following this thread. I am unrooted and on Verizon and am not seeing even close to the battery life that is being enjoyed by most. I believe I have all the settings properly set and I have been monitoring GSAM (great app btw). I am seeing a lot of app usage on GSAM, usually about 40-50%. Under that, the top app listed is always the "Dialer" at upwards of 20%, followed by the Android System, and then Verizon Support and Protection, then it drops to minimal usage by other apps, mostly less than 1%. What is the "Dialer"?, and it should it be using so much of the battery? Also is there a way to disable the Verizon Support and Protection ? Thanks for the help.

Battery issues, my favorite subject! I am not one to run into these problemes often, but there is one thing I hate. It's when an app sucks on my battery, when I'm not using it, and when I tell it to stop. Most of the problem is Google. Google Now always listening. Google wants to know your location. Google wants to save your preferences.

Turn off GPS, or put it on battery saver mode. THE worst offender is Google tracking. Turn off auto sync. Log out of Facebook. Move from the Yahoo Mail app, to the stock. For wifi, go to Settings>Wifi>Menu>Advanced, then switch off the 'always scanning' option. Turn off hypatic feedback, key press sounds, vibrate on incoming call. These may enhance the great things of your phone, but I'm sure you don't have an audience dying to see it with you. Turn off data, when not in use. Change sync settings to manual, or extend sync schedule. Last but not least, if you can't force stop an app, get ri& of it. Forget task mgr. The app will just restart, take its sweet time and battery life, and turn you into babysitter for life.
For data, the slower the data connection (but stable) the less stress on your phone. Since wifi is usually closer than a cell tower, and nowadays slower than LTE, stick on CDMA (for Sprint and Verizon) , or WCDMA (for ATT and Tmobile). Pick ONLY option if using an app.
Oh, and remember, you can have LTE usage on 0 bars of signal, but boy is it a battery gusher.
Hope this helps!

How do the statistics on my GSam screenshot look? I would have thought I would have gotten more screen on time before the battery got to 26%...

You may have a rogue app draining power. That is extreme battery loss unless you are watching YouTube videos for that full 30 minutes.

I lost 8% when I watched a full episode of Lost on Netflix, which is about 48 minutes long. I had full brightness and was using the boomsound speakers.

You may have something draining your battery.

I can make it a full day easily and I have GPS, NFC, and all Google location services turned on. Of course, wifi is always on, but not always connected.

Are you like rooted or what?

nope,I run stock sense 6,this is my first android phone,so I wouldn't try rooting, only things I've done to improve battery is turn my brightness down half way,put my GPS settings on battery saver and disabled a few bloatware apps that came installed from AT&T,overall I've been impressed,I had a iPhone 5 before this, and it's battery life was horrible.
