HTC Thunderbolt Official Specs

Why are so many people knocking the processor?
On the G2 it has be OC'd stable at 1.8ghz BLOWING the doors of all quadrant scores. Complaing bout it being set at 800mhz is crazy, HTC is just trying to get better battery life . So buy a high cap batt. root an enjoy!
Dual core processors ? Really ?
Froyo doesnt make use of two, neither does Gbread, which most people wont see OTA'd till Hunnycomb drops on the NS. By then you will see cheaper dual core devices that can actually make use of them.

personally, i don't mind the processor speed unless it is 800mhz. i would be happy with a 1ghz snapdragon.

This phone is not impressing me, at least the rumored specs aren't. I don't see a reason to upgrade from my Droid X. I am really hoping the LG Opitmus 2X is coming out for Verizon as a LTE device. Or the VZW Moto Tegra device is, well, all that and a bag of potato chips.

1.8 ghz processor, with 768 megs of ram isnt more impressive than a dual core with one Idle core?
Not ragging your opinion just trying to gather info. How is it that the LG or Moto is better?

Future-proofing is the name of the game. I plan on buying a phone that I won't want to upgrade for at least a year. Give me dual-core, an amazing display, 8gb internal mem, sd card slot, ff camera, good RAM, and a sleek exterior and you've got a winner.

This HTC phone started off great, but as more rumored specs come out, I become less impressed. It'll be 2011 and Verizon will be getting a phone that came out in June 2010. No thanks.

In every day use it will be a toss up the msm8655 will give you great performance but the tegra2 has the ability to give the same performance or better only after hc will you really see it and by that time who knows when it's going to be released if the manufacturer will do a timely update or will the first Gen dualcore processors be a battery hog. But I will say one thing a screen with higher Res than what we have now is on my shopping list. They can't continue to cheapen out devices and giving us the cheap screens we have now
Edit
But I would rather have a device that has been future proofed which means dualcore

I agree with the both of you about the future proofing, which is a oxymoron in the tech world because its always old tech by the time it hits the market anyways. Which is why I wouldn't buy a OG droid when there is much better out there.
But having the the hardware an not the software to utilise it, to me doesn't seem logical, kinda like putting a 10yr old in a suped up 2011 corvette that cant see over the steering wheel.
For me I think Ill take last years Camaro throw a super charger on it an beat that 10yr old up and down the road. Then when the 10yr old grows up buy a new car that'll still be spanking that grown up kid.

If you're able to upgrade every 12 months I'm not sure how much "future-proofing" matters, especially in the Android world.

Who would buy a Camaro? :P

But you just said it yourself. I'd rather buy something with the CAPABILITY to use the amazing tech coming out than something that can't at all, like a phone without a dual-core processor. That's the future, at least for now, and I plan on getting one. If I can keep a phone for a year, it'll be a miracle. Here's hoping one of those miracles is released at CES.

This handset is looking to be everything I've liked about my Incredible, combined with what I've admired in the Droid X and Evo, with a big fat LTE cherry on top.

LTE is the real story here. The speeds being quoted in marketing materials are VERY conservative. We've been running daily speed tests (speedtest.net) and are consistently getting speeds in the 20mbps to 30mbps range on downloads, far beyond the 5mbps to 12mbps advertised. Latency is under 50ms, which is frankly amazing.

I'm starting to see a future where I can cut my cable and use an LTE connection for everything.

that first sentence is the most true thing I have ever heard! :)

You guys have to remember that a phone's hardware can only handle so much speed. If you listen to the AC podcast, Jerry said his Evo on 3G and Evo on 4G renders web pages the same speed. It will only show it's true speed while tethering. This is why a dual-core phone (with the proper software) will blow away this Thunderbolt.

While I agree that a dualcore phone will speed up web browsing 4g will be a welcome addition to my area and allow me to actually use my phone when out and about
. You also have to tale into account people trying to use video chat services Netflix ( if it ever comes to Android) and other services that need high speed and low latency Verizon's current 3g network just wont support allot of these things

Because everyone knows had chevy built a 68 camaro it woulda spanked the phony pony :p lol
But seriously I agree with you dual cores running less mhz would be faster than a 1ghz single. I just dont see that in the next upcoming year that it will be enough future-proofing for the Gen1 dual cores when they actually receive the software upgrades. I myself regularly upgrade once a year with a two year agreement, so to purchase a phone that will never live up to its full potential before I upgrade is pointless. Plus by that point I have the oppertunity to get the newest dual core that may even have better performance as well as better battery life

Agreed on that front. I'm not knocking 4G in any way. I can't wait, especially for those data-heavy apps like Netflix and video chat. I'm just saying the browsing will not be much faster if on the same hardware.

And one of the best points about dual-core phones is the fact that they will save battery by doing the same process in half the time, using half the energy.

Well, let's not forget that you're coming from an Eris. Not saying anything about the device as it's quite nice, but this Thunderbolt will be AMAZING to you. I don't know, my Droid X to the Thunderbolt won't seem like a huge upgrade for me.

I see what you're saying about it not living up to its full potential before you upgrade again, but not everyone upgrades that often and, quite frankly, it WILL live up to it's full potential, probably the day you buy it. These dual-core phones are going to make everything better and faster. Gaming is about to explode on Android and I want the Tegra 2 processor that the game developers are developing for! SouthPeak announces exclusive Android games for Tegra 2 devices – Android and Me

Your absolutely right it will be amazing, when I bout it I had to choose between the OGdroid or well winmo.
The X is a great phone, personally Id keep it, and your right not enough wow to switch to the dolt.
Your current phone will be great for a long while enjoy it!
For me Ill prolly get the new HTC Incedible HD/Mecha/Thunderbolt aka Dolt which will be extremely fast(faster than the DX/Dinc/EVO/N1/GS/and give those single operating Dual cores a nice run for thier money).

LTE for the moment isn't a big consideration for myself. Who knows what Verizon will charge for 4G on it's handsets. The rates hopefully will be better than for their Wireless Cards but even 10GBs of data can disappear fast.I'll be more than happy with an EVO-evolved device to use on Verizon.
