HTC tried hard with the 10...but failed

He then proceeded to come to this forum and bash the 10. If the crappy LGG5 is his choice then that's fine. It's still no excuse for him to come over here and bash the phone, while justifying it as his "opinion". Gimme a break.

Man please you fanboys need to give it a rest. It's just his personal opinion. I'm someone that has owned the M series for the past 3 years and will finally be jumping ship this Friday to the S7 edge. I got to play with the 10 for a week and I liked it but I'm more impressed overall by the S7 edge just like OP is impressed more by the G5. I will say that the HTC 10 is a much better phone than the G5 but that's another story for another day. You guys just need to relax and enjoy your phones.

No. I don't care what other people say or do enough to worry about it, and I certainly don't participate in internet wang measuring contests, so you'll have to find someone else to argue with. I just scrolled by the post in the New Posts listing and gently reminded people that they don;t need to fight with you (or anyone) if they don't want to.

You do your thing. I'm not against you doing it.

Oh, I'm not fighting anyone...just sitting back with popcorn.

I do like me some cheesecake. I swear I read somewhere that it does not have "always listening" capabilities. Maybe that's only with the screen off. Which is what Chilly was looking for. Maybe it does work when you're actively using the phone, though.

" you read somewhere" 👏👏👏
Read again... Somewhere else. No cheese cake for you!

I was right, though.

It doesn't have the same always listening capabilities that the Nexus has. Which is what he was looking for. He wants to be able to talk to the phone when the screen was off. Which he can't do unless it's charging.

Here is what I don't understand: why does it have to be "The Best" phone? Aren't all these phones pretty much personal choice? The OP selected the LG G5, which a great many sites feel missed the mark this year. According to Phil's Second Opinion review, the HTC 10 camera is third, behind the G5 and the S7. So, it's the third best camera in Android? Well, I think that is more than good enough to pay $700 for. Why is it only worth $700 if it has "THE BEST EVAH" camera? Or build? Or software skin? For me, a #3 camera combined with the build quality, the audio quality, and the lighter near-stock Sense skin which should come with quicker updates means it is worth $700. NONE of these phones have to be "the best at x" to be worth $700. It has to have the right combination of features for you. For the OP? The G5. Great. Go with God, my friend. For my wife? It's the S7. Fantastic, couldn't love you more, honey. For me it's the HTC 10. Can we stop the macho competition to all have the best phone ever and just try to find the best phone that fits our needs?

Exactly. It's like somebody getting a Porsche and the guy with the Lamborghini making fun of him for it. I'm pretty sure they're both darn good and probably a good deal better than my 2000 Ford Explorer. Why does everyone have to agree that what you own is the absolute best in every regard?

excellent post... however, even when i don't have a dog in this fight, i want to chime in... i think it's totally valid to give your opinion, that's what a forum is all about... but, there is a difference between saying: after spending time with this, i didn't like it... i liked this and that, but i didn't enjoy these other things which are important to me, and i think this other device works better in these areas... let me tell you, if you express your opinion like that, some people will disagree but you will have a nice point of view exchange and that's the beauty of personal opinions... but the OP came to the HTC 10 forum, tried to sound like he wanted to give an unbiased and expert opinion after giving his device history as a resume but then said: "the camera is horrible and I mean HORRIBLE", "Battery is mediocre at best when compared to the s7 or iphone 6s plus", "Button placement also atrocious", "Sense UI is laughable at best"... so extremist point of views for sure will stir the pot... to me that's the difference between your opinion and bashing a device... but, as you said, i just don't care what floats your boat, everyone should be happy with their own choice... just express your choice politely and world peace is possible...

I have to agree with you on this. Even his post title was worded to whip people up and be divisive.

exactly... i mean, it's his money so he should get the device he wants, and then you can come and share your experience, there's nothing wrong with that... but if you decide to use strong words and statements, of course some people will look at it as bashing for free...

Totally disagree.
Its his opinion regardless, and you're acting like the software version being outdated is HIS choice but instead its totally out of his hands.

If he purposely avoided updating his phone, I'd agree but in this case nah.

Oh... I didn't think of it that way.

Taking a break. Those who want to keep posting in a very negative / trolling way should really read up on the rules.

Hey if he doesn't like the phone not my problem. I have had mine for 4 days did the software upgrade all good, i love it! End of. Bye

Looks like I missed the party.

Well, I can't fault the OP if he doesn't like the phone. No phone is going to be liked by every single person in the world. Heck, he likes the LG G5 but I don't. I'm not going to hate him for that because that's his choice.

But he could have said it better. Because it looked like a rant to me.

Any opinion I shared was because that was MY experience with the device, and if it sounded "extremist" that's because it was my individual experience with the device that others may not have had. My particular unit was everything I described. Ive read others who have been getting 6 hours of screen on time where mine was barely sniffing 4:30 with basically everything off. Some have had great camera experience where as mine was atrocious with horrible focus, laser focus errors, blown out shots, horrible color reproduction, etc. So while you may not agree with the tone I took in sharing my opinion, the experience in general soured me to the point where a gentler tone was not going to express the extreme disappointment I had with this phone. I tried 2 units from tmobile to make sure it wasn't just 1 device that was probably a lemon and both gave me the same issue, with the 2nd one not giving me as bad a battery but still under the 5-5:30 hour SOT that people claim they were getting.

The only problems I'm experiencing with HTC 10 is the camera and loss of signal in town when I should have 4G LTE and Battery life is wonderful!

so 2 major components of a phone are not working as they should and you're ok with this?

Hey man, no worries... you are entitled to your opinion, and you don't need to be someone else, that's the way you expressed it and that's fine... but yeah, the tone wasn't very balanced and rather controversial... no one can tell you how to share your personal experience, just try to remember that in any forum some people would take it more personal if you use that tone that you know you did... but it's all good, no reason to "fight" over a phone, there are more serious subjects in life... enjoy your phone choice!

If those two aspects of the phone aren't terribly important, and there are other aspects of the the phone that he enjoys and are important to him, why shouldn't he be OK? We should stop trying to define other people's happiness with a phone through the lens of our own experience.

Well that's why I asked the question. It wasn't rhetorical. It would seem having bad signal and camera would be a deal breaker for most. What else is left aside from build quality.
