I could not be more disappointed at Note 8 now that it has been unveiled.

Samsung phones have *never* had stereo speakers. They bundle headphones for a reason.

Also, you can use an auxiliary cable, Bluetooth or Chromecast Audio.

The Note 8 is easily better than the Note 5. It's better in every way that isn't durability. I'm not sure why you don't understand that.
This.

The Note 5 was categorically better than the Note 4 and the Note 8 is categorically better than the Note 5. Better components, better camera, better display, better software, battery life, design, etc.

You will find that Samsung very rarely releases a device in a series that is worse than the generation before it.

The only iPhone owners I know that have an old iPhone are people that can't afford a new iPhone.

I own an iPhone 6s Plus and have no intention of upgrading to a newer iPhone even though I have enough money to buy one today at full price. The reasons why? It still has a headphone jack, it has a faster modem than the iPhone 7 and maybe even the iPhone 8 since it has the Qualcomm modem that wasn't slowed down like the one in the 7 and it's not a part of the new dispute with Qualcomm and the IPhone 8. My 6s plus is also using one of the TSMC chips that give an extra 2 to 4 hours of battery life over the Samsung chip iPhone 6s devices. I will probably hang on to it for awhile just because it is probably the most complete iPhone made so far.

I sorta want to trade phones with you...

I am speaking more from past experience over the years than today. Today's phones are experiencing diminishing returns with each new release and some features are polarizing so there is less reason to upgrade to a new phone.

I know I am the only one but I still miss the removable battery and I had so much fun changing people's channels with the remote capability.

Note 5 now and not seeing a big reason to upgrade. Would like improved camera but the Note 5 is meeting my needs. I did replace the non removeable battery so good to go for awhile.

Would be nice though :)
Stereo speakers should be almost a given my opinion and every time it's not am a little bit disappointed. I understand why they don't make front facing speakers on most of vases but you can still accomplish stereo speakers with a bottom firing speaker.

Ummmm name one Samsung phone with an infinity display before the S8 ever, name one Samsung phone with two cameras ever before the Note 8, name one with 6gb of ram, etc...

Basically using this argument we shouldn't expect advancement from Samsung EVER

Um... No. Samsung has always advanced their screen tech and other specs. Never stereo speakers.

My point stands.

I would say you are far from it. Post Note 7, my Note 4 with a new battery got me through until the 8+ came out. Then BB and Verizon had a crazy deal where if you traded in a premium phone, they take $20 off your bill for 24 months. That's $480 off the 8+, since the Note 4 counted for the trade in :)

Absolutely spot on! Do you think I have an S5 cause I can't replace it? I like new features just not enough to replace ever year or two. But for me, the polarizing feature is unlocking. I wear glasses so I can't count on the iris scanner. And I just prefer a front FPS. And the one new feature I really want to get is an embedded FPS.

But if my S5 breaks tomorrow, I'd happily get the Note 8 and get used to a rear scanner.

Different people want different things (more like a nice thing to have). I agree its not needed. However, there are a lot of things not needed i.e. S-pen, large display, AMOLED display, games etc. A lot of things are made necessary through usage. It's a phone...made for communicating. However through the years all this stuff was added for convenience.

These haven't been Just a phone in years. If that's all you want/need then a home phone is all you need, or a cheap prepaid.

Many use them for so much more. Me included.

I wear glasses with transition lenses, and the iris scanner works for me probably 98% of the time.

I want the Note 8 because of the stylus, otherwise I would have bought the regular 8 or 8+. I thought the Note 7 was heads and shoulders above the Note 4 and have never been truly happy with the 7E-mainly because of the lack of the stylus which I used regularly. I am not a big fan of the edge window but I got used to it. Seems like it was more for show than go.

I too would like front mounted speakers, or a single speaker if for no reason other than I am old and my hearing is sub-par. I get tired of having to cup my hand under the end of the phone to bounce the sound toward me and I don't like holding the phone so that the bottom is aimed at me. I am sure that I am not the average customer and Samsung is not targeting people like me. :)

No matter, I am glad the Note 8 is finally on the way :)
