I got my Xoom upgraded to 4G, who else got there's?

Motorola isn't doing the upgrade. It's a third party company. I read about it over at the Xoom Forum. Motorola contracted them to do the upgrade. Motorola has nothing to do with repairing or upgrading their devices.

On a side note, my recently upgraded 4G LTE Xoom receive an OTA system update this evening, but it's still 3.2.2.

The company doing the upgrade is CTDI - that's who the Xoom gets shipped to for the 4G upgrade.

Unfortunately, none of the above changes the manner in which we have been treated. Whether Motorola handles the upgrades themselves, or hires another company to do so, they are the ones that ultimately responsible for what happens. Everything has their name on it.

I don't think moto can wash their hands of their responsibility to customers just by outsourcing the work, either. They hired them. If they suck, that's on moto. The reports of damaged xooms coming back is a bit disconcerting. I take good care of mine. I expect it to come back in the same condition as I sent it. If not, moto will be hearing about it. I hope it won't be a problem. Still a bit unhappy that they're just sitting on completed xooms, though.

Motorola promised six business day turnaround. I'm sure that's what CTDI agreed to do. As long as they adhear to that, I fail to see the problem. Yes, it pisses me off that Motorola waited until September 29 (a week after summer ended on September 22), and it pisses me off that it took seven months to get everything working as promised, but having to wait the six business days that we were told we would have to wait shouldn't really be a source of frustration. I'm sure the only reason for some people being mad is that some of us sent our units in on Monday and received them back on Thursday. I was truly impressed by this, but I would have understood if I had not received mine back until next Wednesday (September 12). My reasoning for this was that I shipped mine out on Monday night at 7:00 PM, which was already considered Tuesday business day. Anything shipped after 5:00 PM is already into the next business day.

I'm sorry that you can't understand the frustration some would have knowing that their devices are completed and just sitting around waiting to be sent out, simply because MOTO said the it would take a certain number of days to be completed and sent back. What is happening would be equivalent to someone taking their car into the service man to be repaired. The service man says well it's going to take six business days for the car repairs to be completed. They finish the work in a day and then let the repaired car sit in the parking lot for another 5 days because they told you as the customer it would take six business days to complete.

I also do not see what MOTO's choice to use a contract company to do the work has to do with the situation. That aspect of this is supposed to be invisible to the customers because it is still MOTO's responsibility to see to the upgrades and the safe return of the product to its owner.

Yea, that's it in a nutshell. If there was a legitimate reason for it to take 6 days, sure, ok, I'm fine with that. But it's been done since Wednesday. I fail to understand why they can't do daily shipments out. I get that they can't just ship one at a time. I'm not that stupid as to believe they're going to do that. But they should batch up what they have at the end of each day, and ship it. This is not rocket science at all. That's my source of frustration. If it ACTUALLY took 6 days to get it done and ship it back, fine, so be it. But don't let it just sit there. That's ridiculous.

(Besides, I'm frustrated because I use the Xoom as my weekly NFL scoreboard while I'm watching the games and I can't do that today. BOOOOOO :D)

Well, in all honesty, the upgrade only takes about three minutes to complete. Remove two screws, slide the cover back, remove two more screws, remove blank card, insert 4G card, install two screws, slide cover, install two more screws, and replace dummy SIM with 4G SIM. Then connect to a PC and install the software via recovery mode. I wish they had given us the option of doing it ourselves.

I said that I understand why you're frustrated, and I got yelled at. Now I'm just sick of the crying.

I'd have happily taken the option to do it myself. I never understood why we had to ship them out rather than have the option of bringing it to a VZW store, either. Such is life. It is what it is and it's been upgraded.

As for the "crying"...not really crying. Just expressing an opinion that they could have handled the shipping better. Again, such is life. Nothing we can do about it but wait. Personally, I was hoping to have it back for the weekend. I didn't. Oh well.

The following is from the post I was responding too.

The part in bold is what I have the most issue with. It seems to me that you are saying you do not understand why I might be bothered about not having received my Xoom back since Motorola is still within the six days.

I would have been happy if they had shipped it back to me as soon as my devices upgrade was completed.

Clearly that didn't happen. Instead, Motorola is choosing to play games with me by not sending me my device back until they have reached the limit they set originally.

I know. But there's not much we can do about it unfortunately. Well, you've already decided what you're going to do about it...no longer purchase Moto products. I think that's a valid approach to showing discontent. Voting with your $$$. I'm not at that level of dissatisfaction. I'd like them to ship the darn thing sooner, but, it's not happening. I'm not even convinced it went out Friday. I'd like to think it did, but, I've received nothing from them except the initial email. The tracking site is less than useless IMO. I also wonder if we're going to receive a dock. That would be nice and certainly make me happy. But no one really knows what it means by "the first 75k received". shrug.

Oh, trust me. I am the most impatient person I know. If I had not gotten mine back, I would be the loudest one on here.

On a side note, how many times did you guys fill out the form to have the box sent? I keep reading posts about people receiving multiple return boxes. I wonder if the people who made multiple requests are having to wait.

I filled it out once. All I received was one box.

Only once. Only ever got one box, too. However, they claimed the box would be shipped out the day I signed up for it but in fact I didn't get it til the following Monday. That also wasn't overly great IMO.

What I'm seeing is a bunch of nerd rage. Believing that a company is specifically picking on you? Seriously nobody at Motorola knows nor cares who any of us are. The only thing they care about is the unit and the dollars it represents.

My impatience is near legendary among my friends and family. But there's nothing i can do now but wait. Acting out isn't gonna change anything. It's not even going to affect my decision on purchasing future Motorola products. The Xoom is the best tablet on the market FOR ME. Every Motorola product has done its job well. Do i miss it? Even need it? Hell yes! Just tried ordering a pizza on my gf's iPad 2 and it couldn't handle the basic, non-Flash menu.

But swearing Motorola is out to get me, trying to swindle me is ridiculous. And seriously: get over the 6 business days "promise". Chit happens. If it takes 7 oh well.

Who said motorola was out to get anyone? All that was said is that the shipping part of this equation isn't being handled very well. That has nothing to do with motorola "targeting" anyone in particular. It just means this upgrade process could be handled better. Whatever. Not a thing any of us can do about it except wait. But, I don't recall anyone saying that moto was targeting them specifically...

I would lovevto see specific quotes where anyone has said Motorola is targeting them.

What has been said is how poorly Motorola has handled this upgrade.

May I go on record as saying that my experience was exceptionally awesome?

I ordered my box on Friday, September 30 at 7:00 AM.

My box shipped out on Friday, September 30 as an overnight delivery with no weekend delivery.

My box arrived on Monday, October 3 at about 2:00 in the afternoon, and I was at work.

I got home from work at 5:30 PM and ate dinner, then I reset my Xoom, packed it up, and took it to the Fedex at the airport at 7:00 PM.

On Tuesday, October 4, I received an email saying that my Xoom had been received.

On Wednesday, October 5, I received an email saying that my Xoom had been shipped.

On Thursday, October 6, at 10:20 AM, Fedex delivered my Xoom to my home complete with the complimentary dock.

I really could not ask for better service than this. My Xoom was only actually gone for 62.5 hours.

Had I received that service I would be happy to. But, I haven't. I have had horrible service, and I am angry about how Motorola has handled this.

Not bad at all. That's really how it should be!
