In screen Fingerprint scanner results

So I have registered 4 fingerprint scans using my thumb on both right and left hands and I am finding it only works about 70% of the time which is frustrating. If i touch anything that makes my thumb slightly dirty it almost won't work at all. Coming from the 4a 5G which had the fingerprint scanner at the back I must say that use to work 99% of the time.

Interested to hear other people's results and if anyone has any way of improving it?

Do you have a screen protector on? I remember with my Moto Z4 there were some issue with in screen scanners and whether the fingerprint was recorded before / after installing a screen protector

I can't speak for the Pixel 6/6 Pro, but it wasnt until the S21 series introduced the second version of the Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor that I found it acceptable to use everyday. Even the S20 Ultra's failed enough to be annoying.

I'm not sure if this will help, but when registering your fingerprint, do you move you thumb around in as many positions as you can?

I had similar issues with the Galaxy S series phones in screen fingerprint scanner. Not as much with the Oneplus phones, which are supposed to be inferior.

Yeah tried that put my finger at different angles. Hopefully Google pushing some software updates to improve it.

I have the standard 6 and the fingerprint sensor feels very 2018, it is not good. Not having any face unlock also compounds this.

I really like the phone but am starting to wonder if I can live with it day to day.

Yeah I've found it's not as good as other in-screen finger print scanners. The S21 scanner is much better. Registering multiple prints for the same finger didn't seem to help it.

I'd say that pretty much every in screen sensor from 2019, 2020 and this year is better. It is also a little goldilocks in that if your finger is slightly damp or slightly dirty then it will not work at all. I would not want to put a screen protector on this phone.

I might try the the increased touch sensitivity setting and see if that improves things.

This sounds pretty discouraging. With the technology that is our for under the screen fps you would think that they could get it on par. If not then I wouldn't have minded the power button double as the fps at least if they didn't want it on the back anymore.

I haven't had any accuracy problems, yet, but compared to the S21 ultra it is

S

L

O

W

!

And needing to wake the screen feels very primitive.

I'm sure updates will improve the fingerprint scanner. For those with the phone have your taken the latest update for the phone. There is supposed to be any update for the Pixel once set up is complete

From my experience with one plus 8pro dirty fingers will not work. In winter I also had issue with dry skin causing issue with it.

I've seen some videos as well on the fingerprint scanner and it does look a little bit slower quite frankly I'm disappointed in this the most of anyting but we'll deal with it

I think this thing works great on my S20FE so I'm hoping for similar results here. I'm hardly a snob about **** so as long as it works w/in a second or two, whatever. I'll manage. I use smart locations for the places I frequent anyway so if it is a problem, it's usually negated by that.

Clean, dry fingerprints work poorly. I've found that in-display fps works best if I swipe my finger across my oily forehead and then apply finger to screen. It does leave an awful smudge on the screen, but it works every time.
