In screen Fingerprint scanner results

I'm very happy with FaceID on my iPhone 13 PM and equally happy with the fingerprint sensor on the back of my Pixel 5. The Pixel fingerprint sensor is far superior to the old Apple button on the front of previous model iPhones. On the Pixel 5 its out of the way but super ergonomic and easy to access.

This is really putting me off the Pixel 6 Pro currently; that and lack of decent screen protectors.

So far, IMO, it's not doing that well...

To be fair I heard this with every manufacturer that had a fingerprint sensors some have issues and others not . Especially in screen fingerprint

I initially had some issues with the fingerprints but I re-did the scans and made sure to move my finger around A LOT when registering the thing. Seems to work a lot better now, I just have to remember to hold my finger down a second longer than I think I should.

I've had zero issue with my FPS. it's worked every time and quite quickly too.

I can absolutely understand how usability would and should play a factor in our opinion on a device, and the fingerprint sensor is definitely a big part of usability. But I also have to laugh when I follow the mood of forums and before people get their device in their hand, everyone is on cloud 9 and then once people start receiving them and realizing that the device isn't 100% perfect in every single way, the mood comes crashing down. I used to get caught up in that myself and then I realized that each and every device will shine in some areas and struggle in others. If I had to pick one area where the Pixel fell a bit short, I'd probably pick the FPS. Unless we'd all prefer it to be a subpar camera, build quality, battery life, buggy software, etc? Especially where some small updates can fine tune the scanner a bit to make it much more usable. Perspective is crucial when people's money and emotions are involved.

That's a fair assessment. If this thing performs even half as good as my 4XL I'll be happy. I will miss the face unlock though, and using soli. It's a shame Google kind of half bakes ideas then let's them die.

That's why I like to be pessimistic, I'm always consistent, and rarely disappointed.

That said, personally I just find it weird that devices that are basically a year old have sensors that work SO MUCH better.

Dont bash me, i am coming from S21 Ultra that had an ultrasonic FPS. During Winters in Canada my thumb gets dry skin and it would make it very difficult to unlock the S21U. With Pixel 6 Pro, only none set of FP registered, and dry skin on thumb, i did not encounter any issues with unlocking so far! The only thing is that i have to hold the thumb a second longer, but it's always better than re-trying to unlock it a couple of times.

The on screen finger print reader was one of the new additions, I was waiting for reviews on, before buying the P6 series. I really prefer the reader on the back as my index finger seems to always end up perfectly on it every time I pick the phone up. The finger print reader on the P5 is insanely fast and my wifes 5a is the same way. Hopefully a software update will help with the 6 series.

Why didn't they leave it on the back of the phone? Was it a build or design issue that wouldn't allow it on the back of the phone? Or does everyone like it on screen instead? Can someone post a picture of where it is on a Pixel 6. How do you know where it is on a blacked out screen?

I definitely would prefer that same FPS on the back like my Pixel 4a. But thanks to those who think fragile glass backs indicates a "Premium" built phones is probably the reason we can't have good things. I doubt that the back type sensor dot could be built into the back glass like it is in the 4a.

That's my experience with the S21 Ultra also. I would often have to lotion my hands immediately after washing & drying them, to make the FPS work on Samsung devices.

It's much better now after some updates.

The glass back is what has me confused. The articles I've read said they did it for wireless charging. My P5 has the back FPS and wireless charging and it doesn't have a glass back. For it's size, the P5 is a hefty, solid feeling little cell phone.

For me the in screen scanner was acceptable before I put a screen protector on, now it's 50/50 on whether it unlocks or not.

I've heard that the fingerprint sensor is garbage, that might be a deal breaker for me.

Fingerprint scanner works just fine for me. Not as fast as my s21U but it's fast enough. Works Everytime. I just have to leave my finger on it a half a second longer than the s21U. But it works for me no issues. I registered my fingerprints making sure I hit every angle including my fingertips. No issues yet.

This sounds ridiculous like the typical person trying to defend a phone lol. Ppl are not asking for a phone to be flawless but a FS that works, I don't think that's too much to ask. I mean that's how you unlock your device and it can be annoying if you try multiple times and it doesn't work.
