Do all of the lines on the family plan have UDPs? If not, there is an easier way to do this.

all the ones out of contract have UDPs. one does not, but is still in contract. i have only recently been looking into this and it seems you can transfer the upgrade to a dumbphone line and activate new phone there and then it will work. is that true also? i suppose that seems easier, and less risky.

Best Buy and Costco as well as Verizon. All the other 3rd party retailers charge a secondary ETF of $400 if you drop the data plan before 181 days.

Placed order on the 25th. I'm still waiting for the phone to be delivered but my Verizon account now shows my contract end date as 2 years from now. Unlimited plan still intact. Looking good so far. I used bullzip free PDF printer to PDF my bestbuy order that clearly shows no change to plan. I will use that to fight Verizon if needed. Worse case I will return phone to keep my UDP.
I will come back to post another reply if this does not work.

Just logged in and you're right! Contract end date has been extended two years, and the data is unlimited.

I think I have less fear about getting married than I do about trying to upgrad my phone through Verizon

The phone is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I have to order a sim cutter from Amazon because the two phones have different SIM card sizes.

Phone came a week earlier then expected. I will followup in 24 hours as well.
Here is my chat session which I used to activate it. I almost did the online activation, but decided to kick off a chat and let them do it so I could save the chat session in case I need it.

I was able to keep my unlimited data after upgrading to the LG G2 from a Galaxy Nexus. Heres the backstory:

Ive been a VZW customer for 10 years, and purchased unlimited data for 29.99$ back when it was offered a few years ago. I was told the only way to keep unlimited is if I buy a phone off contract, or use an upgrade from another device on my plan. Since I didnt want to pay a premium price, I decided I would proceed with giving up unlimited, and switch to the 6GB/month data plan for $29.99 (which verizon offers to those coming from unlimited. Note, this plan can only be applied by a VERIZON REP, and not online or by a 3rd party)

I decided to upgrade my device thru best buy. During the process, the best buy associate warned that I would lose unlimited data, and to select a plan I would like to switch to. I told her to keep it at the 2GB plan, (which is $29.99, the same price point i was paying for unlimited). After the upgrade, I looked online, and saw that my account still showed unlimited. I thought this was a glitch so I called VZW to confirm. They also verified that my account retained the unlimited data package after the upgrade. I thought maybe I would see an account change once my billing cycle ended (which is the 26th of each month) and to my surprise, my account still shows unlimited, and my bill was the same price as it was prior to upgrading.

I surmise that keeping my data plan at the same 29.99$ price point and not changing it during the upgrade process allowed me to keep my data. I have screenshots and emails confirming I have the unlimited data should verizon try to bill me.

Thought Id share my experience with others. Hopefully this will work for you.

I purchased the Note 3 through best buy after reading the post here. It comes in monday. I checked my plan it it extended the contract date and left unlimited data. Not sure which method I should use to activate it. Online chat or through the phone.
