[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I I told her to keep it at the 2GB plan, (which is $29.99, the same price point i was paying for unlimited).
The 2GB plan is $30, not $29.99. I know that may not seem like a difference, but if they were able to select a plan that was $29.99 for you, it wasn't the 2GB plan because that one is $30.

After the upgrade, I looked online, and saw that my account still showed unlimited.
Did they activate the new phone with the SIM that was in the new phone or did they use your existing SIM?

I surmise that keeping my data plan at the same 29.99$ price point and not changing it during the upgrade process allowed me to keep my data.
Again, the 2GB plan is $30, not $29.99 so if for some reason they were able to keep you on a $29.99 plan, they were able to keep you on your UDP, because switching you to a 2GB plan would have raised the cost of your data plan by 1 penny to $30.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I purchased the Note 3 through best buy after reading the post here. It comes in monday. I checked my plan it it extended the contract date and left unlimited data. Not sure which method I should use to activate it. Online chat or through the phone.
Just remove the SIM card that came with the Note 3 and replace it with your existing SIM card and turn it on. The Note 3 has a micro SIM card.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Also--though it's not directly phone related, but since the thread is about buying from Best Buy--I chose standard shipping, and it will only take two days or so to be delivered . Definitely glad I didn't choose expedited shipping!

Not only that but the 2gb plan isn't eligible for corporate discount

So something unusual happened when he upgraded in the store at Best Buy and the switch to the 2GB data plan didn't occur. Who knows what happened, but it is not something that anyone can count on happening again.

But I am certain that if he had been switched to the 2GB plan, it would have stuck and he would not have kept his UDP.

Is there a thread showing how to cut the regular sim to a micro?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I just wonder if BB keeps track of the SIM they ship with the phone, and later find out it was never activated, and bite you with an ETF fee.
There is no need to wonder. The answer is NO. Best Buy does not charge an ETF of any kind. If you cancel the phone line, Verizon charges you an ETF. That is in the Verizon customer agreement. All of the other 3rd party retailers except Best Buy and Costco will charge a secondary ETF of $400 if you downgrade your data plan before 181 days; it is in the agreement you agree to when you buy a subsidized phone from them.

You can't charge someone a fee if it isn't in the agreement, and Best Buy and Costco have no such fee in their agreement.

I
Btw, I hope you guys saw this on the forum. Starting Feb 2nd BB will give you a $50 GC for upgrades:
Best Buy offering $50 gift card with upgrades and number ports | Android Central
Thanks, that is the best buy reserve gift card offer they offer each year. In the past you had to wait for the sign up period to be over before you could get the gift card, but maybe it will be different this year.

Idk but you can find instructions on how to do this by doing an internet search.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I, too, upgraded my UDL and ordered the 5s from BB online. Delivery is expected on Monday. I will just take out my sim from my 5 and put it in the 5s. Online still shows unlimited and the contract date has been extended. Fingers crossed on Monday after activation.

Got the phone! Popped in the old SIM (I thought the new phone had the smaller SIM, but they are actually the same size), activated the phone.....looks like everything is the same! Will check again in 24 hours as suggested.

Were you able to do the activation online, or had to call them?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

There's no need for activation online or by calling when swapping Sims...once the SIM is inserted you will be prompted to activate the phone

Yep. I think the op had issues with his card. It literally took under a minute to activate

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Does this work because the SIM card is always affiliated with your account? Or does this work because Best Buys SIM card is pre-configured for a rate data plan only? I ask only because I'm wondering if those without a SIM card in an old phone could just buy a new SIM card elsewhere to make this work.

You can reprogram your SIM card to another line on your account online. I have never tried to reprogram a SIM card onto another account.

None of us knows how it works. But with Best Buy, it seems to be tied to the SIM card.

You can't buy the Verizon post paid SIM cards. However, you could borrow a friend's Verizon SIM card and activate it on their line first and see what happens.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Best buy has SIM cutters. I just walked in and showed my receipt that I purchased it from bb and they cut it for free.

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

I'm going to Best Buy today.
Sign up for the best buy reserve gift card with your mom and dad's number:

https://www-ssl.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcat17413&type=page&promoCode=RESERVE3

So what I want to do is add 2 new lines to my currently family plan (currently have 2 lines with unlimited data).
yes but you want to port your mom and dad's numbers to verizon after you sign up for the reserve gift cards.

I buy the 2 5c's for $50 each, BB will activate them there.
yes, but they will be free if you do the reserve gift card, except for the activation fees and taxes.

You said I need to pick the 2gb data plan for each phone? Is that right so far?
yes, it is the cheapest data plan for a smartphone so that is why you pick it.

What do I do when I get home with the phones? You said something about canceling the data first or something then switching over to the basic phones I got off eBay?
check to see they are activated on the new lines and make a few phone calls. Then turn them off. Then activate the basic phones on the new lines. The data plans may or may not drop off when you do that. If they don't, just block data on the new lines.

Also, is there a way to port numbers over from a prepaid phone to these iPhones and the put the numbers back on the basic phones? My parents have prepaid phones but want there numbers ported to the basic phones if possible.
If you can port prepaid TMobile numbers to Verizon post paid, then the lines will have those phone numbers no matter what phones are on the lines. I believe you can port prepaid numbers to post paid accounts. Ask verizon, they should now.

My last question. I saw this http://www.droid-life.com/2014/01/30/best-buys-50-gift-card-upgrade-offer-returns-feb-2-to-feb-15/
Does that pertain only to upgrades or to what I'm doing also?
My sister got the reserve gift card when she ported from sprint post paid to ATT post paid by adding a line to her husband's and kid's family plan.

I almost forgot. Where should I sell these 5c's at once they are no longer in use and my parents are back on the basic phones? And how much could I get for each do you think?
I sell mine on www.swappa.com. There is a $10 listing fee and you pay paypal fees (0.029% + $0.30). The new/mint Verizon 5c's, which are GSM unlocked, sell for about $400. You need to ship signature required and to US paypal verified addresses only to get the paypal seller protection. I also insure my shipments, but that of course costs extra.

International buyers will often buy the Verizon phones since they are GSM SIM unlocked. They use international reshippers to get the phones to their countries so you are shipping to a US address, but it won't be a paypal confirmed address. Whether or not you are OK with doing that is up to you. I have done it and it was fine but there is no paypal seller protection if the address is not a verified address.

Buy Apple iPhone 5C (Verizon) in US > Swappa
