[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

yes but you want to port your mom and dad's numbers to verizon after you sign up for the reserve gift cards.

Ok I just added there current numbers on that site you gave me. It's the numbers they currently have on there TMO prepaid phones. If the numbers don't port properly I prob won't get the $50 discounts.

Can BB port the numbers when I purchase the iPhones. How would I port numbers before going to BB?

Port-in activations qualify.

You don't port the numbers. BB will port the numbers IF you can port a pre-paid TMobile number to post-paid Verizon. You probably can; I just have never done it. Call Verizon and ask them because it is a Verizon thing, not a Best Buy thing. You are current customer of Verizon trying to bring TMobile customers over to Verizon. Verizon will be very happy with you whether or not you are buying the phones from Verizon or Best Buy so don't hesitate to call Verizon and ask this question.

Best Buy handles the $50 gift cards. In the past they made you wait until the sign up period was over before you could get the $50 reserve gift card, but this year that doesn't look like it is the case. Your parents should have received confirmatory text messages when you signed them up. Ask them if they did. If so, then they should be in the Best Buy system to get the reserve gift cards.

Please keep in mind, to port their numbers you may need their information - social security numbers, etc. Best Buy may want to speak to them on the phone, also.

My mom prepaid phones screen is broke, what am I suppose to do about that bb text. My folks don't mind getting new #s. Can I still use that bb discount though?

You don't need the text to get the gift card. If need be, you can type her phone number in that link using your browser on your phone at Best Buy if they don't show her number as being in the system for the gc. As long as you didn't make a typo, she is signed up.

If they need new numbers, that will not work because you need to sign up for the gc with a phone number and you are only eligible for the gc if you port or upgrade. New numbers are not eligible because you can't sign up a new number ahead of time because you don't know what it is ahead of time to sign up for the gc with it.

Ok I'm about to go now to buy the the iPhones. Two things. You said to call VZW about porting there numbers right? What do I say?

So I enter there numbers into that bb link above and when I go in to bb, before I add two lines I just let them know that I registered there numbers before hand and would like to use the discounts to buy the phones?

ask them if you can port Tmobile prepaid phone numbers to a Verizon postpaid new line. If they say no, then you can't get the BB reserve gc. If they say yes, they will probably ask you if you would like them to do it for you. Just say no you are going to BB and hang up.

What does postpaid newline mean?

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

What does postpaid newline mean?
You are on a nationwide family share plan with your wife. It is post paid because you have a 2 year contract with Verizon not a prepaid account. Postpaid just means not prepaid.

You will be adding 2 new lines to your existing account by porting your parent's phone numbers over from TMobile. So you are adding 2 new lines to an existing Verizon postpaid account by porting 2 prepaid phone numbers from TMobile.

This is to everyone, just an FYI: You are only allow to purchase 3 iPhones in a 181 day time frame. I went to BB tonight to try and add 2 new lines (for my mom and pops) to my existing plan. I was only able to buy 1 iPhone. Since I purchased 2 iPhones in December (for myself and my gf), I only had 1 "iPhone purchase". He said Apple started this over the holiday and it will happen to matter where you go. Also they have a promotion going on where the activation is waived on all phones, started on 1/17.

Anyways, Cozume...Both the Moto X and 5c now have my parents numbers on them w/ 2gb of data on each line I believe. What steps now do I take to transfer there numbers over to these basic phones I have and also get rid of the data?

Or should I just follow this:

If your iPhones were activated in the Best Buy store, you:

1) Shut off the new iPhone 5c's;
2) Log onto Verizon wireless;
3) Select My Verizon Activate or Switch a Device;
4) Select one of the new lines;
5) Select "I am activating a device that I have not used with this account";
6) Enter the device ID of the basic phone you want on that line;
7) Follow the rest of the instructions for activating the basic phone on that line, which includes dialing *228 from the basic phone but they will tell you that online as you progress in the process;
8) Check to see that the data plan dropped off the line after the basic phone was activated;
9) If not, block data on the line; and
10) Repeat steps 3-9 for the other new line.

Device ID = MEID?

yes. that is how to do it.

ESN/MEID/IMEI whatever it asks you for.

The 1st phone I did would not activate told me to call VZW. I got a real nice rep who did both phones for me. She said she took all data off both of the phone lines, I checked and under both phones it says "0.0 KB used" and it's all white. My Verizon also no longer shows the Moto X and iPhone 5c, it shows the LG Octane and LG enV 2. I'm guessing everything worked. I'm just curious on how much this little trick will cost me, how much the prorated charges will be?

Did the porting complete? Were you able to receive calls on the iPhones before you took them off the line?

Maximum 1 day of data per line, so $1 per line + taxes, surcharges and fees on $1. If you get charged the full amount for the month for the data plans, you will be credited the next month so it will work out in the end if that happens.

Also, some fees are per line each month and not prorated if you added a line mid-billing cycle or even at the end of billing cycle.

Each new basic line added to my family share plan costs $13/mo after taxes, surcharges and fees PLUS the activation fee, which for you was waived. On my bill, though, it looks like they cost $17/line/mo. But that is because some of the fees are allocated among the lines so the amount that was allocated to my UDP lines decreased. Anyhow, when I look at my total charges before and after I added a line, it is $13 more per month after I added a basic line.

I'm confused lol. I got home with the iPhone 5c and Moto x. I could use both to make outgoing calls but incoming went straight to a recoding. So I called VZW and they did something were they completed the port. I just had to confirm which # was on which phone, maybe a security thing? Whatever she did, It worked, took like 5 minutes. When I got off the phone with her both the Moto x and iPhone could receive and make calls now.

I then tried to switch the Moto x over to a basic phone, one of 3 that I have. Anyways the number would not switch and It said to call VZW. I got a nice rep, told her that I have 2 basic phones that I want to use, I gave her the esn numbers from each basic phone and she had the numbers from the smartphones ported over to the basic phones for me I didn't have to do anything. She removed the data plans from both smartphones during the port process.

I'm guessing I did everything right?

Re: Bestbuy Mobile Lets me Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon?

Just FYI - Porting is when you move a phone number from one carrier to another carrier. Back in the olden days, you couldn't do that. So people would be stuck with a carrier unless they wanted to change their phone numbers. It was particularly problematic for business phones. The FCC passed regulations forcing the carriers to allow porting in 1996, but before that, you had to change your phone number when you changed carriers.

So the port was from TMobile to Verizon. When you put the basic phones on the line, that was not a port. You merely changed the phones on the line.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just did this last week and was able to keep my unlimited data.

I asked several online reps and 2 in store managers if transferring upgrades would cause me to lose my unlimited and they all said yes. I even had one tell me that it would lock the new phone to the transferred line.

Here's what I did:

Line A - 2gb limited data plan
Line B - unlimited and up for upgrade

Went to myverizon online, transferred upgrade from B to A. Ordered a new phone (online rep even gave me $50 off code) I chose in store pickup. Went and picked up new phone, told them I didn't have time to activate it right then and that I would activate later at home. Went home later that night and had to call customer service and give them numbers from the new phone box.. Sim card..ect. I activated on line A. About an hour later I tried switching phone to line B on myverizon but got some order still pending error so I called customer service and just told them to switch the phone on line A to line B and to reactivate my old line A phone.
And that was it.

5 days later Line B still has unlimited.

Edited:

Its been 5 days and my line B (unlimited line) still shows I have an upgrade available. So far the upgrade dates haven't changed or switched.

Whats up with this?

I don't know but you are one lucky dude!!! I suspect something happened in the system where your first upgrade didn't register. I would wait until the next billing cycle to see what happens but if that upgrade stays, I would use it by transferring it again. If it were me, I would buy an iPhone 5s with it and sell it. You could leave the upgrade on the line and use it when a new phone you want was released, but who knows how long that upgrade will stay available to you.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm upgrading my 3g UDP phone to a new 4g phone. When it comes time to activate the new 4g phone on my line I'd need to go to a Verizon store and get a new SIM card, correct?
