[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I wonder how long before Verizon catches on to this little trick and changes the system to eliminate it. All they would have to do is require a subsidized phone to remain on the line it was contracted for for the duration of the contract (or some arbitrary length of time to discourage this). This would require rewriting the contract. Maybe it doesn't happen enough to make it worth Verizon's time and hassle to customers on non UD plans.

It would require rewriting 47 CFR 27.16, which Verizon doesn't have the ability to do. Only the FCC or the United States Congress can do that.

They could eliminate upgrade transfers.

Shhhhh! Don't give them any ideas!!! That they could do. So far they haven't, though. But it is why I use these upgrades when they come available even if I have to sell an iPhone at the time because there aren't any androids that I want at the time.

I would be happy if they reduced my bill by $15/mo per line and eliminated subsidized phones.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Lol..... I am sure they have thought about it. If they do I am leaving when my contact is up.

yah, I am sure they have and they know darn well that people are doing this. They have made a business decision that it is so few of us who are doing it that they are not going to stop upgrade transfers, which a lot of people like, to stop the drop in the bucket number of us who do this.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yeap and whenever one of the unlimited data lines qualifies for an upgrade TRANSFER THAT UPGRADE TO THE FEATURE PHONE LINE. RINSE AND REPEAT.

iSheep... iSheep... Meowww that's Apple

Eh that won't work because according to verizon that still extends the contract for said unlimited line. Tried it a few times, has to have an upgrade on one of the non-unlimited devices.

It does work.... You extend the contract for the unlimited line but you don't change the features. That is what this thread is all about. I have done it myself several times.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I don't actually think this has to do with the fact for activating your old sim card on the new phone. Once you place the best buy order, your VZ UDP plan gets a 2 extension on the same day. I don't think they can just change plans after it has already been extended. I should be getting my LG G2 today. I would like to keep my old TB as a backup, so I don't want to cut its sim card. I'll try to use the new sim that the phone its suppose to come with. I'll keep you posted.

risky!

has anyone else in this thread that has done it seen any changes yet?? Or still have unlimited

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I was reading a thread in the Moto X part of the forum, and they were talking the same thing, it sounded like those who just switched the SIM were, and those that activated the new SIM lost it

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

That is the part I am not sure of. The account the device was ordered on would have a pending activation on it. Would it clear out eventually and if not, would Verizon care if you told them to clear it out because you gave the phone to someone else?

I would call and ask Verizon if you are allowed to get a subsidized phone and activate it for the first time on a different account and see what they say. You might be able to but I would also ask them how would the pending activation clear from my account.

I did this when the Galaxy S3 came out almost 2 years ago. Got a phone new phone and just sold it. The pending activation just eventually fell off after something like 3-4 weeks. Didn't want to activate and deactivate it first because wanted to sell it in box unopened, unused to get top dollar. Buyer didn't have any trouble activating it on his account.

yes it works. I have twice transferred upgrades from UDP lines and bought subsidized phones and still have UDPs on those lines for months now.

That is the whole point of this thread. There are quite a few of us who have done it and posted screen shots to prove it. We now have contract end dates on our UDP lines in 2015!

I second that...I transferred my upgrade to one of the basic phone in my plan to get the subsidized price, keep my UDP, and extend my contract to 2 more years...don't let the misinformation out there detect you from taking advantage of this while it's still available to you

It's up to you if you want to take the risk of not cutting the card

Swiggity swooty....I was able to upgrade my falling apart Incredible 2 to a brand spankin new HTC One. I just finished rooting it and I'm good to go. Thanks for the help!!

well, you are wrong. If you activate the phone with the SIM card it comes with YOU WILL LOSE YOUR UNLIMITED DATA PLAN. Then you will be left trying to argue to get it back. Some have been successful in arguing to get it back.

Don't say you haven't been warned, though. You have - in all caps no less. Others who did not listen to that warning LOST THEIR UNLIMITED DATA PLAN AND SO WILL YOU IF YOU DO IT. Now you may be able to get it back by arguing but that is hit or miss. It is not hit or miss that you will lose your unlimited data plan if you activate the new phone with the SIM card it comes with. That is a certainty.

I'll try to use the new sim that the phone its suppose to come with. I'll keep you posted.
You will lose your UDP. That is what happens and I know from people IRL in addition to the other Best Buy thread on this forum where people like drpepsi did it and lost their UDP.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

Too risky. Just cut the card or pay $5 to have someone do it for you. Took me literally 5 seconds to activate my phone with my old sim. If you foresee using your TB in the future, just buy a sim adapter.
