[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok I purchased a phone yesterday over the phone through bestbuy.com customer service line.

I have 5 lines -
1: UDP (upgrade avail)
2. UDP (upgrade avail)
3. TDP (upgrade avail)
4. Basic (upgrade avail)
5. Basic (upgrade avail)

I used line 3 upgrade (TDP) to get the note 5 and just picked it up from the BB store today. It doesn't appear they have activated it yet. I checked verizonwireless.com and it still shows all accounts with current phones. My plan is to go to verizon store and request a new nano sim for a UDP line, insert into the note 5 and activate with line 1 UDP account. This should work correct and I won't lose UDP on the line because the upgrade came from a TDP plan, correct?

2nd Question:
Once the pending activation drops off on the TDP line, can I then transfer upgrade from the other UDP line to that same TDP line and do the same thing again?

Thanks for your help!!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

That's what i did. I sold it on Swappa. The person who bought has confirmed he received it, but not confirmed whether or not he's tried to activate it. I'm monitoring my verizon account hourly.

I checked in with the guy I sold the phone to and he confirmed it activated successfully on his Verizon account. I can also confirm that my unlimited data on my line is still in tact and my contract date was updated to November 2017. Looking good so far. This is the last day of my billing period. Will continue to monitor daily to see if things change.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

To my knowledge the only reason they would deny it is if you are out of the 14day return period. Now VZW could get really anal and deny them all but Im not sure how that would fair for them. Everything the rep said to me came off as if you are still in the 14 day return period and you file the IPR than you should be good.
i'm curious to see what happens. I accidentally moved my line onto the $10 for 1K message per month feature... I couldn't go back to the $5 for 250 because it wasn't available anymore. With in about 15 minutes of doing it and noticing my mistake, I called verizon, they said they would have to file some paper work requesting it as that feature is no longer available. I was never switched back to the $5 plan.

Lets hope those of you who lost unlimited data are able to get it back

....
3. What happens when you put a SIM of a "TDP" user who is "NOT" in your account to activate your subsidized phone? ==> VERIFIED through Bandit52 Post 16104. It seems a GO

Looks like we can activate the BB phone on someone else VZA account and keep UDP for now. Just thought I would share here too, in case people didn't see it.
So we purchased an iPhone 6S on my wife's line with UDP to lock in her into contract... I know you are only summarizing.. but the way I read that It make me think...

It appears that I could put my the SIM from my *WORK* (corporate owned, separate account) line into her new iP6S to activate it... then after some time, put her UDP SIM into it and be ok??

Do you know what type of plan the buyer had? Was it tiered or unlimited?

That should work, though, I would activate the phone on the tiered line first before going to Verizon. You might as well just wipe the pending activation.

As for your second question, that should work; however, the phone that is ordered cannot be used ever on your unlimited lines.

Thanks for the update. That semi-answers one of the unknown questions. Is there any way you can contact the party again and find out if the line he activated it on was a UDP line? I guess tomorrow, when your new billing period starts another will be answered. Lastly, are you seeing a pending upgrade (PU) on your line? They used to be called pending activations (PA's), and they would normally drop off the line around the 30 day mark. It is unknown whether those PU's stick around or drop off as PA's did.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Checked my account this morning but I have not heard back on the IPR. My phone now shows the Samsung is gone and my HTC M8 is back on the account. Account still shows month to month and an upgrade available.

That is good news. BB didn't screw anything up. Your UDP should be back soon :)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I transferred my upgrade(my unlimited data line) from one line to another, so that I could get a new phone for my wife about three weeks ago through the BB site and only paid $1 plus the $35 from the Verizon side of things. This put me under contract and I was able to keep my unlimited internet. I bought the phone online then picked it up at the BB store. They activated it for me and everything seems fine. Also, this past February 2015 I got a new phone from directly from VZ by transferring my wife's upgrade to my unlimited line and that went smooth too.

How long has it been since you filed your IPR? I was told to wait 24 to 48 hours for a response. I called in this morning, and I was provided with a request number for my IPR, and the rep told me that it can take any where from 6 to 10 days. She also told me that it wasn't guaranteed, it is a decision that is made by some off line people, and once they get the go ahead from them the Verizon rep can apply the unlimited data. I am worried that I might not get my unlimited data back. Has anyone been successful in restoring their unlimited data?

Sounds like upgrade transfers are OK.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay I upgraded with the BB method on 11/14. I have 2 lines on my account which mine is unlimited and the other one is on tiered. I'm was on month to month but now it's showing my contract end date is 11/16/2017 so I'm guessing it took forever for the system to update my order. 2 questions...I seen where it said on the verizon bill that the increase of 20 dollars will not begin until u complete ur contract or enter in a new one. So will I be charged the 20 dollars still? Also If I was to activate the new phone on to my brothers account that's separate from mine then pop my sim card in it will I lose my unlimited. As of right now I still have unlimited. But if I'm going to be charge 20 dollar anyways then I might as well go back to month to month. I won't be able to find this out myself because my billing cycle runs out in 14 days as so as my return period. I'm new at all this so take it easy on me. Thanks in advance

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

But he did it a while ago

Can you point me to somewhere where people are having UDP taken away after transferring an upgrade from a UDP line to a TDP line?

Point is, the Best Buy Method is/was a loophole.

Technically, upgrade transfers are not a loophole.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

There is always that chance and that it would take a few days but I have read in the past of people loosing a feature or rate plan that was no longer offered and getting it back. Technically I would think that they need to put the plan back since you reversed all the legal aspects of the change. Thats the way I look it it, within the 14 day return period they should be obligated to return what you had.

Just want to report that my unlimited data has been added to my plan.

Just want to report that my unlimited data has been added to my plan.

Same here, got a message from the rep while at lunch!

Now the only thing is which to get Moto X Pure or Nexus 6P? Leaning towards the 6P.

Thanks for your help DuSoccer! I just check my verizon account today after activating the TDP upgraded Note 5 with a new nano sim on my UDP line 1 and my account still reflects unlimited data. My cycle resets tomorrow and I will check the account again for any changes.

Regarding your comment about my 2nd question, why wouldn't that work?
1: UDP (upgrade avail)
2. UDP (upgrade avail)
3. TDP (upgrade used to get note 5 for line 1)
4. Basic (upgrade avail)
5. Basic (upgrade avail)

Could I not now transfer my line 1 upgrade to line 3 once the pending activation drops off so the TDP line can upgrade their phone? They will want an upgrade shortly too.

Also Line 2 UDP will want an upgrade shortly as well. Why couldn't they transfer their upgrade as well to the TDP line and grab a new sim again as I did to get the phone and keep unlimited.

Please elaborate on both scenarios above, as we will need to make each respective upgrade soon as well.

There is still a lot of unknowns with the upgrades since the 15th. People have reported losing unlimited when doing the transfer upgrade on the slickdeals thread. In theory the transfer should work fine, but it's tough to be 100% confident.
