[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

dusoccer10,

I was wondering if you would know the answer to this question. I did BBM in early November and the new iPhone 6s was activated on 11/3/15 and my UDP has been intact to date. However the iPhone I've received appears to be defective (glass screen already cracked for no reason and I didn't even drop the phone).I want to try to get a replacement phone at the Apple Genius Bar, but by reading all the posts, I'm worried and confused if this will lose my UDP if I switch out my phone? From the slickdeals forum, I understand that Verizon appears to be associating the IMEI/ESN of the subsidized phone with the switch order. My general understanding is that a replacement from an Apple Store will not change the 'plan' just the hardware. I am curious to see if you or anyone here has had a replacement iPhone from an Apple Store and either maintained or lost UDP after the replacement. How would this process work at the Apple Genius Bar? Thanks!!

Yeah, I saw your question over on Slickdeals, and to be honest, I'm not sure as it depends on how Apple will process the replacement. If they do it as an exchange, you'll be good to go. If they do it as a return and rebuy, you'll be in trouble. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing until you try. Do you have a Pending Upgrade on your line?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay guys, I just activated my turbo 2 and was able to keep my unlimited data. I'll go into more detail once I get to work.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm glad all is well for you. Thanks for reaching out for the additional information!

Edited: Sorry, one last thing... if you log into your Verizon account and check the "Activate or Switch Device" link, does your line show a Pending Upgrade, or does the page error out in some way when you try to check it???

Under the "Activate/Switch Device" link, it does not say "pending". It didn't error out either. However, when I call 1-800-922-0204 it does say that my line has "order details" and asks if I'm ready to activate my new phone. So there is still something pending. Whether they refer it as Pending Upgrade or Pending Activation, I don't know.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi Guys,

I got the subsidized Droid Turbo 2 to work on my account and still kept unlimited while extending my contract successfully. *Here is the scenario:

I have an account with 1 UDP and an upgrade available
My wife has a different account with 1 TDP line and upgrade available

I ordered a Samsung Galaxy S6 through the BBM for my wife
My wife ordered the Droid Turbo 2 subsidized through verizon's motomaker for me

The phones came it. *Once my Droid T2 came in we went straight to a VAR for a nano sim for myself. *He was unable to activate the phone there but gave me the nano sim for free since he couldn't activate the T2 on my line.

We then went home and I had a PU on my line and my wife had a PU on hers. *I tried to activate the S6 on my wifes line with her nano sim but was unsuccessful. *So I had my wife actually call Verizon Customer Service to activate the T2 on her TDP account with her Nano sim. *That was successful, before the rep was leaving my wife stopped her and told her that I had gotten her the S6 as a gift and she wants that phone instead activated, the rep was great and activated the S6 on her line and deactivated the T2. *Then my wife asked if I could have the T2 on my line, the rep said of course and my wife passed me the phone. *I told the rep that I do not want to lose the unlimited data no matter what and she understood. *She had me read off my nano sim number to her, and she said she will let me know if she gets a message regarding the unlimited data. *After I she added the sim to my account and device she assured me that I would keep the unlimited data. *She then successfully activated the T2 on my account and as of today I still have unlimited data.

She was a really good rep. *Hopefully this helps everyone.

Since all this was done through a Verizon rep, I'm curious to know if the PU's are still showing on the lines. Are they?

EDIT - Answered by otwok. UP's on both lines are gone.

Hi dusoccer10,

Thanks for the reply! I seriously was going between the two forums when I decided to do the BBM to get my UDP back in contract before the deadline and your instructions made it so clear on this forum which motivated me to give it a shot. So thank you for that...I know you & JulesJam have been trying to answer everyone's questions.

I don't believe I have a Pending Upgrade on my line, as when I click on Activate or Switch Device, it doesn't say anything so I assume I am good for now? I had an appointment scheduled for Apple Genius Bar last night but decided to just hold off a month or so to wait to observe my next billing cycle. I don't want to risk losing UDP after all this hard work so I'll just wait. Thanks again for your help and advice!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have an issue. My line with UDP I did the BBM on 11/9. I have a line error on my account. Never powered on new phone, just destroyed the new SIM. Here's the problem. My MXPE on that same line quit working and amazon is sending a new phone. Will I be able to activate that new phone with the SIM from my old phone having that line error?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey everyone. I don't have unlimited data, but I have 4gb for the price of 2gb from a promotion years back. If I upgraded through Verizon, I could keep the promotion, but they said buying through best buy would force me to downgrade to 2gb. However, best buy has $150 note 5 64gb right now vs verizon's $400 price. So I purchased on BB website under another upgrade on my account (2gb tdp). When I receive the phone in the mail, I plan to insert the sim from the other line into the note 5 temporarily, power it up+activate, and then remove that sim and finally insert mine. Would this method allow me to keep my 4gb? It's nothing compared to your unlimited, but a whole lot better than this 2gb garbage!

Does anyone want to switch LG G4s? I'm in the LA county...

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Did Verizon just raise the price of the Hotspot? Foxfi suddenly stopped working today, and found that Verizon is charging $30/mo for the Hotspot.

$30 for unlimited hotspot has been the price for awhile now (maybe the whole time).

Last time I had looked into it, it was $20 for 2gb of data. That was a while ago though.

Right now i doubt anybody knows

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

This question has probably already been asked so take it easy on me. I have a upgrade on my UDP account. If I transfer my upgrade to my wife's phone on the same account which has TDP and get a phone then activate it on her account then replace it and then activate it on mine can I keep unlimited? Thanks in advance.

No. This method no longer works and you'll lose unlimited once you try to activate the new phone on the unlimited line.

Wow. So upgrade transfers within the same account are done?

Are you positive on that? I think he's referring to a transfer from UDP to TDP, activation on the TDP line, and then switch the phone. Last I read the slickdeals thread this method had not yet been confirmed as safe or not.

I literally did the transfer option 3 or 4 weeks ago. When did it die?
