[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Someone at slickdeals has reported that they sold a subsidized phone to someone who has activated it on a Verizon account and the seller didn't lose his UDP.

Hi, I did this with my wife. I did the BB method for the S6 (for my wife) and my wife got a subsidized T2 (for me). I activated the S6 on her line and the T2 on my line. We had to call Verizon to do it but everything worked. I still have my UDP and have avoided the UDP price hike (my billing cycle just began). Just don't use the sim that came with BB phone. I got a different sim from a VAR.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys, just wanted to share my experience. I bought an iPhone 6s off CL this past Friday. The sellers iPhone 6s was bought on a subsidy according to what he told me. I placed my SIM in the 6s before we finalized the transaction and it connected right away. About 12-18 hrs later my line with the 6s was suspended for what Verizon termed "suspicious activity" on my unlimited line. Talk to the security dept asked a few questions and the suspension was removed and my unlimited plan is still intact. Hopefully this helps.

What questions were asked?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

They were concerned that i had 3 different phones on my UDP line within a time span of 36 hrs....i used a samsung galaxy s6 edge plus (for tethering) an iphone 6 plus and now an iphone 6s plus all within the specified time frame. The iphone 6s was on the sellers line on Friday and now on mine. I never called verizon when i placed my SIM in the 6s maybe thats why they grew suspicous??
Not really sure why verizon would suspend it for that because I've been swapping SIMS for the past few years with no issues or suspensions.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

To clarify the question you asked...the only thing verizon had for me was to verify the phones make and model i would be using on my UDP line and they wanted to make sure i didnt report any of my phones lost or stolen....kinda weird i still don't really get it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hopefully someone can chime in here with their experience.

My contract expires on Sunday November 29, 2015. If I order a device from Best Buy, does my 'contract' renew effective the date of the order, or the date of the device activation? (Obviously, the activation will be done on another Verizon account after I take the included sim card out and drop it in a vat of acid, and said phone shall never be allowed on my account.)

Date of the sale. I ordered online on the 13th, it went through on the 14th, my contract is until 11/14/17. And the phone has never been activated.

JulesJam. It's a username of someone who used to post over here (in this and many other threads) before becoming enraged about something. She tends to bounce from forum to forum before having disagreements with a moderator that leads her to moving to somewhere else. Right now, she is "running" the Slickdeals thread where others basically defer to her for everything. She is very knowledgeable, but also extremely opinionated and can rub people to wrong way.

Seriously I don't understand why she has to be so rude sometimes...it's really unnecessary. The amount of posts on the forum are overwhelming and it's hard to figure what the hell is going on and keep up with everything. She is incredibly knowledgable however it makes me wonder what she does for a living if she can answer everyone's questions. She clearly has too much time on her hands.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I did the Best Buy method, or I should say I tried to do the Best Buy method. I ordered the phone before the 15th, on the 11th. I tried to do the LG G4, but it became backordered. And because it is still backordered they cancelled the order today.

Has anybody tried the Best Buy method after the 15th? Now with the Black Friday deals I can get a phone for cheap.

You can't activate the subsidized phone on your account and supposedly you can't bring the phone back to your account either. You'd need a second party to order the phone you want and then switch with that person the phone you want.

Or change numbers I believe

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm not as concerned about getting a phone at the subsidized price as I am fit not having to pay the extra $20 a month fee.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yup. Verizon basically killed that option on November 15th. It can still be done, but when you go to move the phone on to the unlimited line it converts it to a 2GB tiered plan. Verizon has eliminated just about all known loopholes. The only things that are sort of working are:

1.) Buying a subsidized device, selling it, and using the proceeds to buy something else
or
2.) Changing your phone number or using the porting trick to Google Voice would allow you to use the subsidized device on the unlimited line

Those two things are really the only things that seem to still be working.
When you say move the phone are you referring to moving it online or by swapping sims, or both?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

The phone you subsidized to extend your contract is essentially toxic to your line. Even if you were to activate it via your brothers account you could not put in back on the line from which you upgraded from, in this case your UDP. I believe there may still be some unanswered questions about you using it on your tiered plan. but you may find the answer to that on the first page of the Slickdeals forum that is also covering the issue.
Can you cross activate? For example I have 9 lines of service with 7 on unlimited data.

-say lines 1-7 are unlimited, 8 and 9 are tiered
-transfer upgrade from line 1 do line 8,activate on 8 then move to line 2
-transfer upgrade from line 2 to line 8,activate on 8, then move to line 1

No one has actually done this so... But, we may never be able to use subsidized phones on our UDP again.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Wonder if this would work.

Line 1: UDP, upgrade available.
Line 2: TDP, upgrade available.

Use Line 2's upgrade to get a new phone. Activate on Line 2. Then SIM swap to Line 1.

Basically, use the phone from Line 2's upgrade on Line 1.

When Line 2 wants a new phone, transfer Line 1's upgrade and activate and use that phone on Line 2, never ever on Line 1.

I thought you HAD TO not use a new subsidized plan on the same account at all. Sell it or switch it with someone on a different account of change numbers no?
