[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I appreciate the help. Think I'm gonna give it a go!
Please report back your results. And keep checking your unlimited data line online to make sure they don't switch you off unlimited data. If they do, tell them to switch you back and don't take no for an answer. If you notice that they do, call right away because after 14 days, they won't do it.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

keep the 4GB plan it currently has. Your situation is different because you have 2 smartphone lines.

I only suggested choosing the 2GB plan when you are dealing with a dumbphone line to handle the upgrades. The reason I did is because that is the cheapest plan and there will be a prorated charge for data until you get around to switching the basic phone back onto the line.

Okay got it, so when using a smart phone as a dumb line always choose the current data plan it has. So if a dumbphone has a 2GB plan already, you choose 2GB on the new phone. If you have a 4GB plan you choose that when getting a new phone.

How often does that happen?

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just a heads up, they are starting to work around this. I recently had a Rezound brick itself. I wanted to activate an old db phone on my line, just to have something that would work while I awaited the warranty replacement. They wouldn't let me activate the dumb phone on my line without losing unlimited, either through the online system or the customer service reps by phone--and I can be quite persuasive so I'm quite sure they just couldn't do it. Our unlimited data plan is ancient, it's an old Alltel plan from before VZW ate Alltel in NM, (we originally had it on BB Pearls, haha) so there's no beating it now.

I'm not sure exactly what this means for those trying the upgrade transfer trick. But it seems they are slamming doors on any roads leading to keeping unlimited.

Based on the rapid pace with which Verizon seems to want to push it's customers to T-Mobile, I wouldn't be surprised to see an acquisition of the same in the near future ;)

I don't think anyone has had that happen yet. But at some point, you can bet they will try to stop this. None of us knows when that will be so keep an eye on your accounts at least until you have started a new billing cycle after the upgrade.

They aren't likely to let this loophole stay open forever but I can't tell you when they will try to close it.

Your issue is a completely different issue.

If you ever put a dumbphone on an unlimited data line, you will lose unlimited data on that line. Don't ever do it. We are talking about putting dumbphones back on lines that never had unlimited data to begin with.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Some of the 3rd party's have a $400 fee if you change data plans or switch the phone to another line after you upgrade. So check on that.

I am pretty sure that Best Buy doesn't but Walmart and Amazon do. Check to see if Wirefly does.

Wirefly absolutely does. Wirefly is simplexity's store. Simplexity does fulfillment for Dell, Microsoft, Newegg. TigerDirect, sams club, radio shack, and many others. Any cell store owned or fulfilled by simplexity would have the $400 charge secondary etf

I thought you had 2 smartphone lines - 1 with unlimited and 1 with 4GB? No dumbphones at all, right?

Dumbphones are also called feature phones or basic phones. They allow voice and text and have a browser but they aren't android OS phones.

Good luck! Stick to the process and you'll do fine. If you get confused, you don't have to do it all at once, so feel free to ask questions if you get stuck! androidluvr2 is rocking on the replies lately!

Just to be clear, you are transferring an upgrade from an unlimited data smartphone line to a 4GB capped smartphone line. In that situation, here are the steps:

1. Transfer the upgrade from the unlimited data line to the 4GB data line
2. Use the transferred upgrade on the 4GB line to get whatever new smartphone you want
3. Keep the existing 4GB plan on that line when you do the upgrade
4. Activate the new smartphone on the 4GB line
5. Reactive the old smartphone that was previously on the 4GB line back onto the 4GB line
6. Get a new SIM card for the new smartphone so that it can be activated on the unlimited data line (there are situations where you can use the SIM card from the original phone on the unlimited line but idk everything about compatibility of SIM card so you would have to find that out elsewhere, but the SIM cards are free from VZW so it seems easiest to just get a new one, in store or order online)
7. Activate the new smartphone on the unlimited data line

Thanks bro, sorry for all the questions haha I'll try this and report back with the results

Double the Data Promotion

If any of you are going to use a line that has a double the data promotion on it for an upgrade, for instance 4GB for $30, don't change the data plan on that line when you upgrade. Keep the existing double the data plan. If you do change it, you will lose the double the data promotion.

You probably have 14 days to get it switched back like with unlimited, but best not to change it during the upgrade. Just keep the existing data plan on the upgrade line.

Thanks bro
I'm a sista, not a bro :)

Re: Double the Data Promotion

no problem!

I figured you did so don't change it. 4GB double the data is almost as good of a deal as unlimited since most of us never get to 2GB let alone 4GB in a month, but you never know what the future will bring so hang onto your cheap data plans as long as you can. I am sure data will become more and more expensive as the technology develops.
