[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

iv been seeing this (kind of hidden) on almost every retailers website.
The $400 fee has been around from before the switch to Share Everything and the change in Verizon's policy on unlimited data users getting subsidized phones. They charge the fee because Verizon does not pay them if you downgrade the data on the line you used the subsidized upgrade on. Amazon, Walmart, Radioshack have always had this fee. Only Best Buy and Costco have not. I asked a Costco rep why they didn't charge the fee and he just said it was his company's policy not to. That could change at any time, but so far it has not.

Verizon has never had the fee, either, of course. You always have the option of buying directly from Verizon in store or online, but of course, that could change, too and of course, Verizon is usually the highest price for the phones.

Wow, I'm glad you were set up with such a knowledgeable associate. That's great to know about their return policy. I'm not 100% sure about the return windows Verizon typically observes, but I do think based on what I've read here that the 14 days on Verizon's end will still lock your contract changes in, even if you change devices during days 15-90.

That is correct. Costco has a 90 day return /exchange policy. But the Trial Period is 14 days. After that, your contract is locked. You can of course make returns or exchanges until 90 days, but you would be stuck with the 2 years contract after 14 days . This info is clearly stated on their website

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has anyone been successful with transferring an upgrade on an unlimited line and keeping their unlimited data? When talking to multiple reps they are warning me (without me asking) that I will lose unlimited data from the line I'm transferring from.

The act of transferring an upgrade from an unlimited line to another line on the same account should not by itself effect the plans associated with either.

yes, read through the thread. And if Verizon closes this loophole and you do lose unlimited data, you have 14 days to argue for them to restore it and get your unlimited back, but of course, you may have to return the phone.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I read this on another thread, there is a ghost phone ESN = 13800000400 that you can try to put on your added line if you don't want to put a basic phone on it. I bought a used basic phone for $13 shipped on amazon and have that on my line. Now I have an extra phone.

Of course, never use the ghost phone ESN on a line with unlimited data.

You don't even need the esn, just call in and they can do it for you. Although with the esn, you can do it online which saves the hassle of dealing with the csr.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My billing cycle just renewed. I'm on the 12th day of owning my awesome Galaxy Note 2. My unlimited is still in. Hope nothing changes in the next couple of days! :)

P.S. I'm very much in love with my GN2! Amazing power, performance and battery life coming from a Galaxy Nexus.

I doubt they are trying to misinform you. I am sure they are just unaware of this loophole as there is no reason why VZW would encourage their employees to assist with the exploitation. I've been told the same thing and also had no reason to believe that's not how it was until a fellow poster advised me I was spreading wrong information.

It is not hard to understand that this loophole violates Verizon's "intent" of waiving the subsidized "carrot" at people in order to get them to give up their unlimited data.

yeah, I like to avoid talking to them. Most of the ones I speak to on the phone are nice since they can be recorded, but in the store, they are rude.

You can transfer phones anywhere you want, but the unlimited data is tied to the phone number, not the phone, and would not be affected so long as you don't put a non smartphone on the unlimited line.

Keep in mind that depending on who you bought the phone from, certain third party may charge a $400 fee if you make certain changes including moving phones within a family line

Depends on the store I guess, I have not had rude csr in store, but I do try to avoid using the store as well. I do but my screen protectors from them since they install it free

Very important point! I think most if not all of them allow it without a fee at 181 days, but of course, everyone should double check with the retailer to make sure.

That is correct, I am assuming that most don't want to wait that long, but it is an option that may work for some

Yes me and my boyfriend have unlimited plans we also have my brothers phone who got transferred to our account and when he did he got stuck with the 2gb plan and we both want new phones. I got him a new phone from Ebay so i want to know if i can go online and use the activate or switch device feature on verizon.com or do i need to do the whole under the radar thing by switching the sim cards. i plan to use my upgrade to "upgrade" my brothers phone then reactivate his old phone leaving me with my new phone to use on my account. I hope im not confusing. Anyways overall what im trying to figure out is can i do the activation of the phones using the website without it changing my plan or do i need to just switch the sim cards and keep it off of the verizon website.we already have 4g sim cards in our active phones. Thanks for all the help by the way!!

Either option would work and both would retain unlimited unthrottled 4GLTE. You can move phones anywhere you want
