[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm in the same boat. I just ordered Note 2 through Costco and I am going to activate the phone on my spare line. After I put the dumb phone back on my spare line, I'm just going to take the Note 2 to a Verizon store and put it on my primary line with unlimited data. My understanding is that they will just give you a new sim card on the spot.

You can do it online without a new SIM card and be done in 5 minutes.

Will they not need one anyways in order to access the network on the new device though? Or is it somehow switching which line the SIM is tied to?

I bought the phone at the store, activated it on the limited line. Got home and online re activated the old phone back on there and activated the new phone to the unlimited line. I did not have to use a new SIM! I know a lot of people on here are dating you do but I did it without a new one and have had no problems what do ever. So people can give advice without actually doing it, or you can take the advice from somebody who has done it.

This is good to know. I'll try it online first before wasting any time going over to the VZW store.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay guys So I just finished the process of Putting the new phone on the dumb phone line and the dumb phone back on its original line. So now I just have a deactivated phone. What is my next step? Should I head to the mall and go to a Kiosk and put the new phone on my unlimited data line ( because the phone currently on the unlimited line does not use a sim card) or can I just activate online right now?

See above.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Need Clarification Please. I just transfer my eligibility from unlimited line (3G) to limited line (4G) and completed the order. No warning about data plan changes since I had the limited line on a 2GB/$30 plan. When I received my order confirmation (via email) though, it reflected the upgrade was for my unlimited line. Also, when I go online to view pending activation, it shows the unlimited line is expecting activation. The VZW rep told me basically the transfer isn't a real transfer because it will require me to activate the phone on the unlimited line first which will cause data plan to switch to a limited plan. Any truth to this? Will I be able to keep my unlimited plan since there was no indication that the data plan was going to change when I completed the upgrade online? I will appreciate your advise. Thanks

that's ok if you in fact transferred the upgrade to the limited data line and bought the phone on the limited data line.

do not activate the new phone on the unlimited data line first. Activate it on the limited data line first.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for the response. I am wondering how I'm going activate it on the liimited line since the order confirmation shows it was for the unlimited line and my VZW account also shows phone is pending to be activated on the unlimited line. How do I go about doing this? Activate phone right away or need to call customer service or go to VZW store to have activate it on the limited line?

I would send the phone back or cancel the order of its not too late. Then I would go to the store and transfer the update and get the phone there.

Order has been cancelled. I'm going to pre-order the Galaxy S4 again so I will go to the store today as suggested and see if they can transfer the upgrade there. Hopefully, they will do the transfer only so I can come home and order online that way I can get the online discount. Will keep you posted. Thanks!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have noticed that my upgrade button has disappeared and been replaced by a change plan. I fear I have waited too late

that really IS scary. The upgrade choices are all still there (just not on the front screen) and I was able to transfer an upgrade from an unlimited smartphone line to a dumbphone, but I "undid" it and did not process an order.

I cannot seem to find a way to pre-order the GS4 and transfer though. If I could I definitely would at this point. Hopefully I'll still be able to transfer and order the GS4 when it becomes available and not pre-order.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I have two family share smartphones on my Verizon account both with unlimited data...I'm happy with my GS3 and ordered another one to replace the Droid Charge on my second line from Best Buy online. It allowed me the option of keeping my existing plan and keeping my existing data plan. I'm still paranoid because I tried to do this in store and it didn't allow them to proceed with the same plans, so I canceled that order and reordered it to ship to home. The phone from Best Buy will be here today via UPS...what should I do with the SIM transfer? Just get the one from the Charge cut to fit? I dunno what the procedure will be with Verizon being ultra shady about everything...

Activating a subsidized phone on an unlimited line would automatically remove unlimited, regardless of what best buy website said. You could call them and tell them that the website said that you could keep existing data plan, Verizon may reinstate it, but ymmv on that.

With regards to the sim, you can cut it, or verizon can issue you a new one at no cost

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Right now it's reflecting the updated contract fulfillment date and still states unlimited data...with the Charge still active. Since I never agreed to a change in device or plan and all of my documents support that, I'll be fine in the end...just annoying to have to jump through these hoops.

Er, never agreed to a change in my plan or data packages with this device upgrade rather.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

My wife did her upgrade at Target and nothing about the plan changed, hopefully your luck is the same!

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm sure it's in the thread somewhere I probably just missed it, I am looking for the new steps for a family plan with 2 unlimited lines and upgrades coming in august. Last I heard is that I would just:

- add a line and get the new GS4 or whatever new smartphone
- and then activate it on that line
- then activate a non smartphone on the new line
- then I can activate the new phone on the unlimited line

Has this process changed and is there any time lengths that need to be meet as far as leaving the phone activated on the new line for a certain amount of time?
