[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I figured that was a rep who didn't know better. I edit my OP... All 4 SHOULD have UD but I just found my line doesn't have UD!!! I am the main line on the acct! Now I am tempted to upgrade that phone... then squeal about their August screw up!!! Hmmmmmmmm
Well as long as at least one line doesn't have an UDP, you can use it to transfer upgrades to.

What happened in august?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

This whole thing made me look at my bill closely and I see they removed my line from the UDP back in August!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy moly!!! I lost my phone, had the insurance... and got it replaced.. with that they went and put me on a 2G plan!!! OH NO NO NO, I am so calling on this!!! I noticed my bill was up a bit but didn't look at it closely... my daughter is good for adding a few buck to it here and there lol.

Oh man her I go... I am sure I have a fight on my hands!!
Getting an insurance replacement phone should not kick you off of an UDP.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You would think Verizon would want to put a stop to this. They are losing their subsidized portion of the cost of the phone every time this happens. Adding a 2 year data contract to a family share dumb phone line added a $30/month cost for the 2GB plan. When you reactivate the original dumb phone, that data plan drops off. I've got to think that part or all of the subsidized cost is made up for in the data charges. Since those charges are eliminated on the dumb phone line with this method, Verizon has to be losing money on every phone obtained this way (vs if the customer just kept paying the same UD line charges and kept their old smart phone on that line).

Thanks a ton, this is awesome that it works!!!!

I'm still nervous to try it haha...I keep thinking a few days down the road people are going to start saying it got switched

The people I know IRL who used the SIM card that shipped with the phone and got switched to the 2GB plan automatically got switched within hours of activating the phone. That has been the same for those posting here who did it, too.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

I think what i'll do is see if Big Red would be willing to give me that 6GB for $30 deal that they've given to people with unlimited (that's not part of the edge program) that way I can save $100 on my new phone (Note 3 is $100 more on BB than VZW.com) If they won't, then i'll go the BB route

I use less than 1GB a month right now, so should be fine(im just worried about in the future if I have to start traveling)

Sign up for the BB reserve gift card to get $50 off of any phone with 2 year contract.

I think their misinformation campaign keeps the number of people doing this very low and the average person would see they don't use that much data and change to one of their tiered plans. Also they may lose customers. I know if they closed this loophole I'd be off to T-Mobile in a minute.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price.

those sneaky little buttholes....

I was offered the 6GB for $30 deal, and was going to take it, but had one important question. I asked if after the 2 year contract if I would get to keep the 6GB or would it revert back to the 2GB, she said I would not be able to keep the 6GB for $30 when I try to upgrade again

was really hoping to get that White Gold version of the Note 3 from vzw store

It's been about a month for me and everything is still good. At this point if they change I would believe they would be violating the contract.

you're good to go. If they didn't change it within 14 days, they aren't going to change it.

You can still pay the VZW price for the Note if you transfer your upgrade to the other smartphone on your plan (as long as you activate the other first then you shouldn't lose your UDP)

this confuses me, I've been reading the other thread, and still not sure how it works

break it down real quick: 1)My dad's line has a dumbphone (he's primary acct owner) 2)Me: UDP with the S3 3)My mom has an Iphone with 2GB tiered plan

I stole my dad's upgrade 2 years ago so I could get the S3 before they nixed the unlimited data plan..my line is the only one available for upgrade, my mom has a few months to go and my dad has a while

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Cozume, thank you for your responses. Anyone else have other opinions to share?

Is there an average going rate for AOL transfers for a single line? I did a quick search on Craigslist last night and saw anywhere from no price stated, to $550 for two lines and up to $600 for just one line.
