[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I am looking at upgrading via Best Buy and just have one quick question. Why does it have to be shipped instead of pick up in store? I was hoping I could pick it up today. No big deal, just thought I would ask.

Thank you,

Dan

The techs will activate the phone and you will lose your UDP.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I have a potentially stupid question. I want to go to Verizon to buy a case for my iPhone because I get a company discount. Can they see that I bought the phone at BB? I was planning on telling them I purchased full retail price. Am I risking saving my UDP?

It has no barring at all. I have bought many accessories via verizon store for my LG G2.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Hi folks!

I used this method to upgrade to a new phone (iphone 5s) and it seems to have worked. I cut down the sim card from my Droid Bionic, put it in the new phone, turned it on, and boom, it was set up. However, it does not show that I am on the Verizon network. I can make calls, use LTE internet, and receive text messages from non-iphone users, but I cannot get my voicemail or send texts to non-iphone users. I'm not asking for troubleshooting, but I was wondering if I could go to Verizon and ask for help with this issue without them switching my data plan. Would getting a new sim card change anything on my plan at this point, since the phone has already been activated with the old sim card?

Thanks!
Julia

What do you see when you log into your verizon account? Do you see the iPhone 5s on your line?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

It shows the new phone, an updated contract date, and unlimited data. The top of the phone says LTE but not Verizon, if that makes sense.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Well I finally ordered the phone. Since I had to pick a data plan I chose the 2gb data plan for the basic line...when will that show up on my account so I can cancel it? After I activate the new phone on the basic line?

Can I face issues if I never activate the phone at all on the basic line and just activate it on my unlimited data line?

My status bar doesn't say verizon, either, but when I pull down the notification shade it does.

I think you should be fine if you get a new SIM card since you are already activated with a new contract date. But I would call Verizon tech support and get one mailed if you can wait. If you can't wait, then you need to get to a corporate store.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Excited to know my GN3 is out for delivery today. Can anyone please tell me if it comes with 4.4 pre-installed?

Mine did not, but it did do a small update when i first turned it on. But unfortunately it was not KitKat

the whole point of this method is to not activate the phone with the SIM card it shipped with. The bb reps will just turn it on and then it will activate with the SIM card it shipped with and you will lose your UDP.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes you will have to cancel the days on the dumb phone line after the trickery....

You want to activate it on the basic line first.

They will happily all you accessories in store and get the commission /markup.... :-)

Thanks for the reply. That is good to know, for me at least. Still patiently waiting for UPS.

Re: Can't seem to purchase a phone at BestBuy.com

A GS3 has a micro sim card and an HTC Thunderbolt has a mini sim card. I don't know what sim card a GNex has. Is it the same as her GS3? The GS4 is also uses a micro sim card. You can simply remove her sim card from the GS3 and place it in the GS4. You should not have to activate it or do anything additional. Turn the phone on with her GS3 sim card and it should work. As for upgrading your line, you can trim your Thunderbolt sim card down to a micro size by following the previous video I posted. If you're set on trying to use your old GNex sim card, assuming it's a micro sim card, you can buy a micro to mini sim card adapter and try to get Verizon to activate that sim card on your Thunderbolt. Once it's activated, you can then place the micro sim card into your new phone. Unless you buy an iPhone in which you'll need to trim it to nano size. You have a lot of options...

Maybe I didn't explain my situation fully. Wife has the HTC thunderbolt, which uses the mini Sim. We ordered her a GS4, and I'm curious if, instead of cutting her sim, I could somehow activate my currently unused Galaxy Nexus, for which I have a micro sim that's not being used. GNex has a broken screen, but otherwise powers on. Once active, then presumably the micro Sim could be used in the new GS4.

The micro sim cards I have say "NFC" on them, does that have any bearing on performance or use?

yes, that would work IF you can get the GNex's old micro SIM card to reactivate. Verizon supposedly will permanently deactivate a SIM card if it hasn't been active in awhile. I don't know if this is true or not, but it is what the reps say. Even if it is true, go ahead and try to reactivate the GNex on the line. Then if the SIM card is too old to reactivate, go to your verizon corporate store and tell them you want to put the GNex back on the line but its SIM card isn't working and they will give you a new SIM card to use. Then use it and get it active. Then you can use the GNex SIM card when the GS4 comes.

Or call and have a new micro SIM card mailed to you. Just tell them you tried the old SIM card and it wouldn't activate. They will mail you a new one.

The GNex SIM cards had NFC chips in them. So do the new SIM cards, but now the new ones have secure element NFC chips on them for Isis wallet to work.

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a Driod Razr and would like to upgrade to the Droid Maxx. The sim cards for these two phones are the same right?

I have a family plan with 4 smartphones, 2 with UDP and 2 with tiered plans. My phone is the only one with upgrade available right now. Is their any way to upgrade my phone with out having to add a new dummy line and not lose my UDP? What would be the way to go with my situation? If I have to add a dummy line will I be charged a fee for canceling it?

No. Droid maxx uses a nano sim. Droid razr uses a micro sim

Re: [Instruction]How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So my Maxx will be here on Tuesday, what is the correct process for the activation? Simply turn on the phone and follow the process or enter the device ID # via the website?
