[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Either way will work. But it is less steps but the first method is less steps. Order it on Line 1 and when the new phone comes put the SIM from your existing Line 2 and put it in the new phone and your done. The contract will be extended by 2 years on Line 1 and you'll have a new phone and preserved UDP on your Line 2.

Sorry to keep beating a dead horse here, but i failed in my reading to see the new method of just changing the SIM.
Where im at now is I attempted the original method of purchasing a new phone on a transferred UDP upgrade to a dumb phone line. I received the new phone and activated it on the dumb phone line as originally described. De-activated it by reactivating the old dumb phone to that line..All is good so far. Now trying to activate the new phone to my UDP unlimited line i get a message.
"Your request cannot be completed
Our records indicate you recently purchased a device for this MDN but have not activated it yet. You have the option to proceed after you have activated your new device, or you may contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 for further assistance."
Clear as mud?
Any ideas on what my next step should be?
Thanks! sorry if this has already been covered in forum

If you have a compatible SIM from your present UDP line phone use that one to put in the new phone.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

As long as you don't use the new sim(Dissolve them in acid!) that comes with the new phone no one goes to a tiered plan. Line transferred from gets extension on contract. Once you get the phone the data plan can only be changed by using the new sim so... [vat of acid] Main line keeps whatever it had.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying about the sim cards.

I'm just curious of why Best Buy changed their ordering process with the modified disclaimer about UDP. Also, as you're ordering your upgrade, it allows you select "keep existing plan" for your calling plan, but unlike before where it allowed you to choose "keep existing plan" for your data option...now it only allows me to choose "line access fee". No option for any of the new More Everything Plans or a Keep Existing Plan option. Even after you choose it and add to cart, it only shows keeping your calling plan, but no mention to what the data plan selection is (just line access).

Just weird. Has anyone else noticed these changes and still had not forward issues after ordering your upgrade? I'm going to try it again on my main line and see what happens tomorrow.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I just ordered today. I didn't notice the disclaimer about Verizon and the 2GB shared plan or whatever its called, but I did get an email confirmation that my plan is not changing. I logged into the Verizon Wireless website a few hours after I placed my order and now my contract expires in 2016 and my plan still shows ULP. I just ordered the phone today, so I'll report back once I get it to verify I'm keeping UDP.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So, I just went through all the motions, it gave me the disclaimer before I started about "Verizon Wireless has ended this plan option, so when you upgrade you'll be switched to their most common 2GB plan by default." but I went ahead and took a few more steps. It told me I could "Keep my existing plan" but when I got to data these were my options and I stopped:

Did I wait one day too long and the loophole has closed or did I do something wrong?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

Ladies and Gents...

I had success of getting a subsidized phone while keeping my UDP. I followed the advice of other posters, and ordered a phone online and selected to keep my existing plan. When the phone came in, I took out the sim card from my new HTC One M8 and put in my old sim card. Walla all my old stuff was transferred and I still have a UDP.

I however didn't order my phone from bestbuy. I found it to be cheaper at Amazon. I had to cut down my old standard size sim card into a nano side. I also had to sand paper the back end so it can fit in the tray. I am going to wait a couple of months, before i call in to get a new sim card or I might not. I am having no problems..so who knows.

One thing that i feel is unique in my situation is that my contract didn't get renewed. I am now month to month and it seems like I can still go through the process again and get another subsidized phone and it will then renew my contract.

I thought this wouldn't work with amazon?

I placed my order this morning and did not get the options that you did under the data plan choices. As I mentioned in my post above, the only option that I had after I chose to keep my existing calling plan was to select Line Charge Access under the data plan options. See below.

I'm hoping this works...the first two times, I received a order error problem email shortly after my order got placed.

** UPDATE ** Well, it looks like I'm a lot further than my previous two attempts. Again, when I compare the order summaries between my last two and this morning, the difference is that the previous orders say "keep existing data plan" while the one this morning just says "line access charge".

On my VZW account, my main line now has a contract extension date for two years and for the time being, UDP.

Question. When I receive the phone, I will put in my wife's sim in it. Afterwards, will my vzw account show my main line as eligible again for an upgrade so that I can place an order for mine? Or should I follow a different method for ordering the 2nd phone? Obviously trying to place an upgrade order against the 2nd line always end up an order email error response.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I received the same BB display as Mthr1 and placed my order. However, about an hour later I received a text from BB saying that there was a problem with me order and to call them. I am going to cancel the order and try again. Hopefully it is just an error on my part.

**UPDATE** Now VzW has extended my contract; however, I have received a message from Best Buy saying there is a problem with my order and I cannot cancel with Best Buy. What have I done? I am totally freaking out...

Did you upgrade the main line on the account or a secondary line? I only seem to have gotten those emails when I tried to upgrade the secondary line. When I placed the order this morning against my primary line, I didn't get an email yet (my previous two tries, I got the email pretty quickly AND my Verizon account never registered the contract extension).

Your order WILL cancel with Best Buy if you let it ride for about a week or so and just don't do anything. Don't call them. They'll keep emailing you and try calling a few times, but it WILL cancel.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I only have the one line. I did read here not to call them, so I haven't. My concern at this point is that Verizon has already extended my contract date. If the phone doesn't ship then I will need to fight with VzW to have my information corrected. To your point, I probably just need to relax and let things happen. "I'am at one with the world, at one with the universe. I am at one with the world, at one with the universe...."

Thanks Mthr1

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I have a question to try and keep one line on UDP.
I have a Family Share plan with:
Line 1: smartphone, UDP, not eligible for upgrade until July
Line 2: smartphone, 2GB data, not eligible for upgrade until July
Line 3: dumb phone, no data, eligible for upgrade
Line 4: dumb phone, no data, eligible for upgrade
Line 5: dumb phone, no data, eligible for upgrade

Could I just take an upgrade from any line 3-5 for Line 2.
Order new subsidized smartphone for Line 2.
Activate new smartphone on Line 1 using sim from Line 1.
Keep existing Line 2 smartphone on Line 2.

Would this allow Line 1 to keep UDP?
Would I have to activate new smartphone on Line 2 first then move it to Line 1?
Would it matter if I bought the new smartphone from Verizon or Best Buy online (shipped to my home)?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I placed my order yesterday afternoon. I just have a single line on my plan with UDP. I got the order confirmation email from Best Buy. The confirmation email says:

Order in process of being fulfilled. Estimated arrival date: June 4 - June 12

It also says this:

Your Plan
These items will be billed by your wireless carrier and do not include all fees, taxes and surcharges.
* The monthly rate for your existing plan will remain the same.

Monthly Charges, See below
Verizon Wireless Keep Existing Plan, * No change
With 2-year contract extension

Device Model: SMG900VZKV
Line Access Fee, $0.00

Total One-Time Fees, $35.00
Upgrade Fee, $35.00

So am I in the clear here? Has anyone else in my current status had their order canceled or got an email saying there was a problem with their order?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Roberto,

I received the exact same messages; however, I received a message stating there was a problem with my order shortly thereafter. I hope that yours is successful.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Willie2Shoes - So what happened? Were you not able to get a new phone? Did you try again?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Very interesting trick. I'd just be scared they'd later take away my unlimited data. But if this is still around when the Note4 hits I might give it a go.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I haven't upgraded since November 2010. My current UDP phone is a Droid X, which as far as I can tell does not have a SIM card. Is it still possible to do the BB trick with only the new SIM card (I'd be getting an HTC One M8), or would activating that just put me on one of the new data plans?

Get a new sim from Verizon prior to ordering phone - then use this sim and destroy the sim that comes with your M8

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Roberto - I am waiting on BB to either cancel the order or ship the device. Their email said to call within 48 hours. I will have to wait and see (which is not my strong point.) I don't use a ton of data; however, it is nice to have the safety net in the event I need it.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Im going to try to get a "NFC-SE" SIM card. Or I'm just gonna go in and say customer service told me to come in and get a new sim to increase reception. I wonder if they will give me a new micro sim or just a regular size sim.
