Yeah, I'm wondering if I should stop worrying it out, and just do that and be done with it...

So did it eventually fall off or did you put the new SIM in and activate it on the dumb phone line?

I went ahead and activated it, then did the switch. Every thing cleared out like normal. I should have just done it that way to begin with. I was just tempted by the thought of not having to mess with dumb phone, and the fact that I read the data plan never got added to dumb line... but both were wrong. Next time I stock to the tried and true OP method.

To update on my situation I ordered my Galaxy S5 on 6-30 through Best Buy and I got it today. I followed everything that I read on here and it worked. I have a new phone and I still have my unlimited data. Thanks to everyone who participated on this thread!

Perhaps something is different with phones from Best Buy. Works fine with Verizon. Good to know, thanks.

I'm nervous. Still nothing besides the confirmation email. I hope this thing ships without a problem. And yeah, I don't mind the $35 fee if it means keeping my UDP.

It took an extra day to ship my phone from a second order I placed at Best Buy.

ALSO, I upgraded a secondary line without issue. That line was also given admin privileges so I guess that's the trick for secondary lines! Now all I need is to pick up a SIM so I can activate it tomorrow. (I rather not mangle my Micro SIM from my GNex.)

I have been reading posts on how to keep my UDP while buying a new phone through best buy. My question is what happens to your contacts, messages, picture folders when you swap the SIM card to the new phone?

It depends how your contacts, etc are stored on the old phone:

1) If the contacts, etc are "inside the contacts app" those will stay there unless you take action to upload them to a cloud service or copy them to the microSD card.

2) If your contacts are stored on your Gmail account then when you enter your login info for Gmail on the new device those contacts will be synced to you new device.


Verizon offers Verizon Cloud with 5GB of free cloud storage. So you can install that app on your old smartphone. Upload your contacts, messages, pictures to Verizon Cloud. Then when you have a new smartphone simply install Verizon Cloud app on it and restore your contacts to it. If you copy your contacts on old device to the microSD card of old device you simply power it off and remove the microSD from old to new device and slip into the new smartphone.

Well, I was and remain a Nervous Nelly with regard to the process. I was exhausted yesterday and truly having difficulty comprehending what I was reading here and on other forums and how these experiences and suggestions could relate to my individual circumstance.

So I reached out via PM for some hand holding and hope I started the process last night that will work for me after hearing from one person.

I was told to simply order an S5 from Best Buy online using the eligibility for my primary line which has UDP and an S3. Then when I receive it go through the process described here and elsewhere to toss the new SIM and use the S3 SIM.

It was also suggested that I transfer my eligibilty from my other UDP with an S3 on it also to my primary line and order another S5 that will go through the same process but on my daughters secondary line with UDP.

That still leaves me with two DUMB lines with eligibilty.

Does this sound correct to you all?

Once again, thanks to all who assist and sorry for the request for some hand-holding but I wanted to make sure I was doing it right and not make a mistake...

Ok so if i read correctly, i can use the phone im using now to order the M8 through best buy, cut my sim card to size, do not power the new phone until my old sim card is in & ill be good to go????

Anyone have an idea on how to do this with an old Droid X? The old X doesn't have a sim card. Will Verizon give me one if I tell them I need it for another phone?

You can borrow a phone from. A friend or buy a cheap lte phone off eBay or swappa and then ask for a sim for it.

Well, I pulled the trigger last night. I ordered a new phone from Best Buy. My Verizon account shows a new contract end date of 7/7/16. It also still shows unlimited data. I received a shipment notice this afternoon. I did the upgrade/sim swap in November of last year on my spouse's account. I never thought this would still be working 8 months later!

Ok so I'm trying to upgrade a line that has a 3g phone and I tried calling Verizon to get the sim ordered but they said I need to go into the store to do it. They won't ship it. Can someone help me who did it with a new sim card?

I am not sure if they will ship you a sim card without a 4G phone. Do you have a Verizon 4G phone you can borrow from someone so you can use the MEID from it to order a sim card?

Yes, I do... We have 4 lines all 4 with UDP and 3 of them have 4G. I'm doing this for my mom, the only line without 4G and she wants the LG G2 that needs micro sim card size. And my dad has the Droid Razar Maxxx I think it also takes the same sim size can someone confirm this. I can check it when my dad comes home. I also have another phone that is laying around that is a galaxy nexus and of course it has 4g. My question is how should I do it? Is it better to have the sim ordered for the galaxy nexus and have it cut (which will need a sim cutter and extra process) or I was thinking telling them I will just swtching the two phones between the razar maxx and 3g and that way I will get the same sim card size.

I do have an extra phone laying around that is a 4g. What do I tell them to have them ship me the sim. Because the rep asked me if I have the phone and said if I do than walk into their store and have them install the sim and activate it.
