[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes, Line 1 will have its contract extended and Line 2 will still keep its original upgrade date.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Kind of confused after reading multiple threads about this. Here's my scenario:

Line 1: Galaxy Nexus, UDP, upgrade available
Line 2: Droid Bionic, 4GB (double data promo), upgrade available

How would I got about upgrading both lines with subsidized pricing, but keep UDP on line 1? Thanks in advance.

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Ok, I just pulled the trigger and ordered an S5, upgrading my main line with UDP. The other line is a dumbphone. I received the email from BB saying they are processing my order. About 1 hr later Verizon had updated my contract end date and my data plan still shows as unlimited. I'm crossing my fingers no issues.

Yup, you were right. When I transferred the upgrade to line 2, the line two upgrade date (10 days from now) switched to line 1. Awesome!

You do all this through verizonwireless website?

Upgrade line 2 and activate as normal. Swap the to line 1 (cut SIM or get a new one if necessary.) Then transfer the upgrade from line 1 to line 2 and get the next phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Like many others, I'm looking for some clarification. Thanks in advance.

I'm on a 5-line family share plan. I'm the only line with UDP and the only line with an upgrade. 3 of the remaining lines are smart phones; 1 is a dumb phone (yes, it's actually used).

1. Can I transfer my upgrade to one of the smart phone lines so I don't need to deal with adding data to the dumb phone line?

2. Do I *need* to activate the phone on the other line before I activate it on mine? I keep seeing conflicting information here. I'd prefer not to so I don't interfere with the service on someone else's line.

Thanks so much for your help!

So I upgrade line 2 with the phone that I want, activate it on line 2, then reactivate line 2's original phone and activate the new one on line 1. Then swap line 1's upgrade to line 2 and get the new phone for line 2. Correct? How long do I need to wait after the first upgrade to perform the second? Sorry for all the questions, but this is the first time I'm doing this and want to make sure I get it right.

You all should hold out for the Note4.

You can do it as soon as the system will let you. When swapping the upgrade from the unlimited data line make sure you do the transaction online.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok I'm confused.
Line 1 my wifes LG g2 2gb data not eligible for update.
line 2 my Droid Razr Maxx UDP eligible for update.

Here is what I've done so far. Thru Verizon I transferred my update from line 2 to line 1 and ordered the LG G3 on line 1.

Now when I receive the he new phone do I just take the sim out of my razr and install it in the new G3, or do I activate on line 1 first and then swap the sims?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

Since the G3 is only available for in store pickup, will Best Buy activate the new G3 on my current SIM card if I ask them to, or they have to activate it on the new card that comes with the phone? Or will they let me leave the store without activating it, and I can do it later with my current SIM card?

They will have to activate it in store. I don't know if they would use your old Sim. Wait for it to come out, then order on the web, that should work fine.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Has anyone ever tried activating with a different Sim card than what comes with a new phone, on the non UDP line and then put the Sim that came with the new phone back in after activating and using it in the UDP line? I wonder if the Sim card is what cause loss of unlimited data on a line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You do NOT have to activate it on the dumb line first. Just put your Sim card from line one into new phone and turn it on

Does the Verizon system then show online that you are using the old phone on that line or does it register the new phone? In my case would it show my old GNex or the new S5? I am worried about the insurance coverage in case I need it down the road.

Yes, VZW has a record of the NEW SIM card connected to the subsidized price of the smartphone sold at BB.com.

So if that NEW SIM is used on a line with UDP the UDP disappears.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok, this is what I did. I had a line that had unlimited data that has a upgrade available. I have a line that is on a 2gb data plan that is under contract. I transferred the upgrade for the unlimited data to the 2gb line and upgraded it to the lg g3.

What I plan on doing is when the phone comes in, activate it with the SIM card that comes with it accept the terms and what not, then take the SIM card out and put it in the old phone and reactivate that phone. Then take a SIM card that is in use and activate the g3. If I understand things right, as long as I activate that phone with the SIM card that comes with the new phone first, then use the new SIM card in the old phone on that line, the unlimited data should stay put.

I'm not in the share everything plan. The g3 will not even go on the line with unlimited data that was transferred, it is going on a different line that had unlimited data that is up for upgrade yet to
Sorry for the confusing post. But this is confusing. I've done the upgrade dumb line, activate then activate on data line. This is the first time I've tried transferring unlimited data line to a tiered data line and then eventually move the new phone to line of choice. Just curious if the unlimited data will be effected?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Eh. So I got the S5 today and activated it on the 2gb plan line. I couldn't figure out how to de activate it on the VZW system. So I did a switch device on the VZW site with the S5 and my GNex. At the end it says swap the sim cards. Damn. If I would have known that I wouldn't have bothered activating it on the 2 gb line and would be done. Now I am on hold because I can't re active the phone that was on the 2gb line because it doesn't show as a previous device on their system and I don't have it with me or a way to contact the person with it. The only good news so far is the S5 is activated and I still show UDP. So if you plan on doing this make sure you have the ESN # and Sim # for all the devices you are going to be working with.
