[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

So I'm clear you ordered the G3 via Verizon using the dumb phone switch or just ordered it online and use your old sim card?

I have 4 lines total on my plan. Mine is UDP, the others have 2GB ea. of data. All but 1 line are eligible for an upgrade. That line is not eligible until next year, and currently has an iPhone on it. So what I did was transfer my upgrade to that line and ordered the G3 on that line. This does not affect my UDP and it does not affect the other line's upgrade date, which is still March 2015. Once the phone arrives, I'll activate it on that line (deactivating the iPhone). I'll probably wait an hour or so then reactivate the iPhone. I'll then take the SIM card out of my Bionic (full size), cut it down and place it in the G3, activate and done!

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

By accepting this Instant Discount Policy, you agree to repay $400 per smart phone or tablet and $200 per other device if you do not maintain your carrier service for 181 consecutive days from the service activation date. You also authorize us to collect that amount using any credit card we have on record for you. Amazon can periodically check your account status with the carrier to confirm your line of service is active and in good standing and thereby confirm you are in compliance with this policy. So reading this as a long as you keep your phone current and up-to-date via Verizon you will not have to pay the 400.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok guys, time to share my experience.

So I preordered the lg g3 on Sunday, 7/13 and got my phone today, 7/17, and my udp is still here. So I can tell you that preordering does not negatively impact our udp. Now onto the method I used which I got from our fellow members.

I first transferred my udp upgrade to a dumb phone line and ordered the new phone,
Then I wait for the phone to arrive.
When the phone finally arrives, I then pull out the SIM card that came with it and put my old SIM card into the new phone and turned on the device. I did not even have to activate or deactivate anything. It's just like turning your old phone on when you turned it off the previous night.

Although it's only been a few hours, my udp is still here but the pending on the dumb phone line still has not drop off yet. By pending, I mean the notice that tells you that Verizon's system indicates I ordered a phone recently and is still waiting for me to activate it on that line. I hope it will eventually drop off and don't have to call verizon.

Good luck to you all and thanks the member that has helped me keeping the udp!

PS If anything happens to my udp, I will be sure to come back and post to you guys and if nothing happens after my billing cycle ends, I will still come back and do a follow up.

Update: I activated the new phone on my udp on Thursday, 7/17, and after 5 days the pending on the dumb phone line has finally fallen off!!! And the udp is still here. Yay~

But there is actually a surprise for me. On my online account, I still see that my udp line is still month to month and it still shows me that I still have an upgrade available. In addition, everything on my plan stayed the same except my line now shows the new phone picture.

So I'm wondering if you guys who transferred your upgrade to the dumb phone and just swap SIM cards when it comes, still have your upgrade available? And do you think I can still do the same thing next year instead of waiting another two years? I'm thinking yes for the 2nd question.

Btw a major THANK YOU to dss2000!!! Thank you for giving me a hassle free and inexpensive way to upgrade and keep my udp!

Edit: this way is done through Verizon.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just added my new line today online. Phone will arrive tomorrow. I have my old flip phones ready to go with confirmed good esns.

I had to make some changes to text messaging plans, but that did not appear to disrupt my calling or data plans.

Looking forward to tomorrow

EDIT: http://forums.androidcentral.com/ge...ited-grandfathered-data-verizon-loophole.html

Are the procedures listed here in a step by step format needed? Or is it as simple as
1. Turn on new line by turning on phone, then turn phone off.
2. Go online, activate dumb phone on extra line.
3. Take SIM from UDP, put in new phone, and turn new phone back on.

Hello, just a curious question, could i use Amazon? Rather than Best Buy. Since you are just replacing the SIM card. Correct? Am i wrong on this?

In that case, it's a hundred dollars cheaper going through Amazon rather than Best Buy. If somebody could help me out, that would be great. I am on a family plan, so i selected family plan, do i check the 2nd box "i have a verizon wireless account and want to upgrade my current device"? Since, i have an account with verizon on their website. Amazon I just want to make sure, that by doing this, and telling them my info during checkout, it wont compromise my UDP.

I asked this same question several pages back but did not get any replies. I think there is a reason its called the "Best Buy Method" though. I think it has something to do with the system used when you make the order and how it links to Verizon.

On the other forum (HoFo) people have tried to use Amazon.com but had to choose a different plan...which means you lose UDP.

BestBuy gives you the option to "keep existing plan."

Hope that helps

Posters over at Howard Forums say the Amazon site does not give the option of "keep my existing plan" like BB.com.

Hope that helps

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

hey guys I have a quick question what if I pick up the phone from the store and tell them its a gift and don't activate it, will that work?

Hi StayFly, did you ever get an answer to your question about store pickup of a gift phone?

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

When I went through the Amazon site, before you finish paying, you have to choose a new data package. I know it says keep same account, but no, it doesn't work. I'm not sure if BB will work anymore either. Ugh! I don't think Verizon should have done away with unlimited data with an upgrade. It's poor customer service, but hey, I'm just a peon.

Can anyone confirm Amazon doesn't work?

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

You can also activate new sim online instead of calling Verizon

Re: Verizon: How to keep Unlimited Data and get phone on subsidized price

I called verizon today. They are sending me a new sim card for the galaxy. Should be here tuesday....ugh, more waiting. :/ My question still is.... I don't have a dummy line, how can I be sure I don't lose my UDP??

Hi!!!!
My SIM card got here today. Put it in my galaxy, says it's activating now!!!
I'll let you guys know how it goes. How do I check to be sure I keep my UDP????

Log into your account and see if it's still showing Unlimited. If not, then you lost it.
