[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: Verizon to close the upgrade to smartphone then downgrade to basic phone loophole

but I don't have a basic line upgrade available right now and will be transferring a udp line's upgrade to my basic line to get the iPhone 6. I am presuming that when I do, that will extend the udp contract by 2 years and the udp line will be the line with the 2 year data requirement (which is OK with me). I am presuming this because that is how things work now, but really, we will see what happens after the 24th when someone tries this.

If I had a basic line upgrade available now, I would use it before the 25th because after the 24th, you will be stuck with a 2 year data plan commitment on the previously basic line.

no the other line that takes the upgrade is the one that will need the data plan for the full 2 years, that is what verizon is changing, and you can't drop the data plan from the line.

I am not sure if that is the way it will work. I don't think we will know until it is implemented.

Doing what you say would require Verizon to implement 2 contracts. One on the donor unlimited line. The second would be on the dumb-phone line receiving the upgrade. I would think the line getting the contract will require the data plan. I just think we don't have enough information yet.

If you read the article it says right in it, the line that gets the upgrade (in this case the dumb phone) will have to keep the data plan the whole 2 years of the contract, even without a smart phone on it.

If you transfer an upgrade to the dumb line it is not getting a new contract. The original line is getting the contract. The way I read it the line getting the contract will require the data requirement.

If the line getting the upgrade is the only one that requires the data plan. Then Verizon opens another loophole. We could just transfer all upgrades to a smartphone line.

The main reason I am concerned with this is I use the transfer upgrade to get a subsidized phone and keep my unlimited line.

The memo only talks about the simple upgrading of a dumb phone to a smartphone and that action requiring the line to have a data plan for two years. We don't know how transfers or best buy method or anything else will work so no point speculating. drink fuzz and be merry! Until little red puts the hammer.

Re: Best Buy Mobile lets me keep Unlimited Data Plan on Verizon?

just pulled the trigger on the best buy method today after reading another thread on here on how to do it (it has since mysteriously disappeared...) i however have not gotten an email stating there was a problem with my order, yet, today is sunday....i guess i will keep you guys posted on how it goes...

Edit* i was only able to order the copper/gold s5, the other 2 were in store pick up only....kind of weird

do not reply to the email. Cancel your order first.

I get your point but I and others absolutely have cause for concern as we want to transfer our UDP upgrade. Sure the article says it's closing this loophole but who's not to say they will also will fudge with other things. I WOULD think Verizon has to notify their customers to any changes to transfers but come on guys, it's big red!

I may just take the plunge and get a G3 or another M8.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think it's about time to replace my S3. I'm planning to use the transfer upgrade method (Nationwide family plan, Line A: GS3, UDP, upgrade available, Line B: iP5, 2 GB tiered, under contract).

I am going to transfer the upgrade from A to B and order a new S5 on line B from Best Buy to be delivered to home. The one issue I have is that the user of line B is on the other side of the country, so I don't want to interrupt her service. My plan was simply to put my SIM from the S3 into the S5 without activating the S5 on line B, which sounds like it should work to both keep my UDP on line A AND get line A under contract to avoid throttling while also avoiding any interruption to service on line B's iP5.

Just wanted to make sure I have this down before I try it.

Re: 4 UDPs on Family Plan in different parts of the country

When's the last time someone used this, and has anyone HERE successfully used Amazon without losing their UDP?

I'd rather the LG G3 but BB isn't shipping it. Amazon lets me keep my existing plan, but looks like it wants to peg me on a 2GB plan. Just want to make sure and I'd love to cash in on this before it's closed up. TIA!

I never said they were closing it or that the memo said that. I'm just saying it's pointless to speculate as far as how they will handle transfers. We need to just wait and see. I'm hoping they don't. At least for the foreseeable future. I used all my upgrades already so I plan on buying full price and from swappa for my next few upgrades and also use my upgrades on AT&T.

I know it works this way with Verizon. Some have reported when they did it with Best Buy the pending plan on line B didn't automatically fall off. Not sure if Best Buy is different or they didn't wait long enough for the pending order to fall off. They eventually activated it on Line B and then deactivated it to clear the pending order. But that would mean disrupting the line B and having to reactivate it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a question. I ordered the HTC One M8 from Best Buy and it will be here tomorrow. I have been reading a lot to make sure I don't screw this up, but I have only managed to confused myself.

Line 1 (primary): UDP
Line 2: dumb phone
Line 3: UDP
Line 4: dumb phone

Everything I read says people have transferred upgrades and what not. I did not. I ordered the M8 by upgrading one of my dumb phone lines ( line 2). I want to use the M8 on my current primary Razr Maxx line.

Here are my questions:
Do I just cut the line 1 sim card down (micro to nano) and put it in the M8. No need to activate anything online or turn on the M8. (not my first choice)

Or, can I activate the M8 on the dumb line (line 2, assuming it will assign the 2GB plan to that line), turn off the M8 and put the dumb phone back on line 2 using Verizon's website, then dropping data on Line 2, and then switch the M8 to my primary line 1 (keeping UDP) online using the newly activated sim card that came with the M8. This would prevent my from having to cut down the old sim, and I assume then I would have a NFC sim.

Or, will using the newly activated sim card move the 2GB data plan with it to my primary UDP line?

Thanks,

Rick

Thanks for the clarification; after I posted this, I looked at Verizon's site and they have the S5 for the same price (as long as you don't mind having to wait for a rebate), so I'm going to order from Verizon. It seems like the easiest way to do it.

Any confirmed cases of anyone being UNSUCCESSFUL using Amazon?

I to am sick of waiting for Best Buy to be willing to sell me an LG G3.

Either method would work. The second one avoids having to cut the SIM. If you do it before 8/24 you can drop the data but after 8/24 it will be stuck with the data plan even if you put a non data phone on it. After 8/24 we don't know how it would effect the first method.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys I just ordered a new LG G3 phone.

I read over this thread and just wanted to confirm if this method will still let me keep my unlimited data plan.
Line 1(my line): Unlimited
Line 2(iphone 4): Tiered 2GB data plan.-Update Available

Line 2 had the upgrade available and is originally a 2GB data plan, I used Line 2 to upgrade and order the LG G3. Line 2 is originally using the iphone 4 with 3G micro sim card. When I checked my Verizon order it appears they have shipped a 4G sim card with the phone(not sure if this info is relevant).

So from what I am reading is I can just receive that spanking brand new LG G3 and pop in Line 1 UDP sim card that I use into the LG G3 and I can still keep the unlimited data plan? Do I need to something specific if I activate online about switching device option? Would it be easier to activate through phone?

OR

Do I do the method in which I receive the G3 activate it on Line 2 and then deactivate it. Pop in Line 1's sim card and activate it to continue using the G3 with unlimited data?

Thank you guys!

Re: 4 UDPs on Family Plan in different parts of the country

So... you can essentially purchase the phone from any retailer as long as you are able to replace the SIM with your current SIM and activate it yourself?

I'm on a family plan and my mom has an upgrade available on her account. She is on a 2GB data plan already. Am I correct in thinking that I can purchase a phone online using her upgrade, have it shipped to my house, put my SIM in, and activate it on my line?

I think this may have been touched on before but just wanted to make sure!

I'm in the same exact situation. Would someone please answer this before I pull the trigger? I'd like to use Amazon because it is over a hundred dollars cheaper than Best Buy.
