[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok I just want to make sure I got it

so I order the new iPhone 6 under my brothers upgrade, once i get the phone in the mail, i remove the sim it came with and i put my sim card in? then turn on the new iPhone and I'm all set? what about the pending activation on my brothers line?

I really appreciate the help!!
That's pretty much it. It might take a couple weeks for the pending activation to drop. If you activate the phone on the tiered line first you won't have to wait for pending activation.

Since your not upgrading a unlimited data line it is an easy upgrade.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

just want to check one more time.

I have order the phone from BB, it will be delivered to home on Monday. want to clear the steps to keep my UDP.
1. trash new sim card from the new phone
2. replace with OLD simcard from existing phone in the new phone and power up

is that the right method to keep my existing UDP to upgrade via BB?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks! I wish, they don't charge the activation fee, it really would be the free phone if they did! stupid activation fee!

I added a new line last year to get the Note 4. It was through the Comcast Promotion. They actually waived the activation fee for the new line. I did not even ask. The line was then cancelled when I got the $400 in gift cards.

I bought my Note3 through BestBuy. Even though the receipt showed an activation fee no fee was ever charged. Maybe the same will happen for you?

It usually on your next bill or the one after that.

Will FoxFi work with the HTC One m8 and does anyone have this phone and what are your thoughts on it?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

How would this scenario work.

Line 1 UDP w/ upgrade
Line 2 Basic w/ upgrade

Both lines want the Nexus 6. So I'm assuming upgrade Line 2 to tiered and activate Nexus 6. Then transfer it to Line 1 after it has been activated on Line 2 for about an hour. Then proceed to transfer Line 1 upgrade to Line 2 and order a Nexus 6 and activate it on that line and good to go?

During all that process for the first steps is it fine to reactivate a dumb phone temporarily when I transfer the phone to Line 1? Also when Line 2 orders a new phone after taking Line 1's upgrade do they use the same SIM card that they used to activate the previous phone or does it not matter and they can use the new SIM that comes with the phone.

Sorry if it sounds confusing!

You can activate the dumbphone, but will be stuck with the data on line 2.

They will send you a new SIM again with the phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I've followed this thread with great interest for a long time. Having done the Best Buy method myself at least 3 times, I'm glad that such a "loophole" exists. :)

However, I've been wondering something for a while.... does anyone from Verizon Wireless corporate know about this loophole? :D

Of course Verizon corporate knows about these loopholes. Just look at last Fall when they shut down the Apple loophole that was causing the creation of new unlimited lines. They shut that down because it was loosing them money compared to the new plans ($30 unlimited vs. $30 2GB). With these phone upgrade loopholes, it doesn't really affect their bottom line that much since our plans are already paying for a subsidized device.

Look at it another way, Verizon now gives either a $15 or $25 discount to people on the More Everything plans when they go off contract. Those of us with unlimited are ineligible for this discount, so we are paying Verizon at least this amount to keep our unlimited. Further, those of us with unlimited are such a small subset of Verizon that it really doesn't matter to them. At best, we are probably no more than 10% of over 100 million customers. Of that 10%, those that use these loopholes are such a small fraction that we are merely a drop in the bucket.

Since our plans already include a phone subsidy, we are not hurting Verizon's bottom line by using loopholes. Sure, Verizon could make more money by forcing us to choose a new plan or be kicked off Verizon (and this is true regardless if we are "in contract" with them). However, it would be a public relations nightmare and not really worth the hassle. Now, if these loopholes caused them to loose money, then all bets are off. For instance, there will come a time when Verizon will eventually get rid of phone subsidies. You'll see all loopholes close at that time.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You can activate the dumbphone, but will be stuck with the data on line 2.

They will send you a new SIM again with the phone.

After reactivating the dumb phone, is transferring the upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2 to get another Nexus 6 fine and not cause UDP to be lost? This is also the part where I was curious about using the previous Nexus 6 SIM that was temporarily activated on Line 2's original upgrade that was then transferred to Line 1 which has their own UDP SIM.

Basically steps that would follow:

First part:
Line 1 UDP w/ Upgrade
Line 2 Basic w/ Upgrade

Use Line 2 Upgrade and get a Nexus 6 then activate it and use for about an hour or so. Then deactivate and activate old dumbphone for now and give phone to Line 1 which they put their UDP SIM into it and activate it that way.

Second Part:
Line 1 UDP w/ Upgrade
Line 2 Now Tiered Upgrade has been used

After doing first part, Line 1 then transfers their upgrade to Line 2 and Line 2 then orders another Nexus 6. Do they then use the previous SIM that they used to activate the first Nexus 6 or do they just use the new one that comes (or does it not matter in this case)?

EDIT: Fixed post regarding Line 2 (accidentally posted it as UDP)

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just FYI on pending activation. I did the Verizon loop back in Nov. Top get my wife an iPhone 6. Her line is unlimited, her son's is not. Bought the phone on his line and activated it. But for some reason the pending activation never went away. Called Verizon and they confirmed it was activated and said just give it a couple days and it would go away.

After a week it was still there so I just switched SIMs in the phone which worked with no problem. But the pending activation stayed until just about 2 weeks ago. So I had it for little over 3 months.

Just wanted to let people know it can stay on fire a while. Didn't hurt me because my next upgraded isn't until next month. Will be saving that for the LG G4 if I like what they come out with.

I am confused. In you first post you say line 2 is a dumbphone. In you next post you say it had unlimited. Several things will make you loose unlimited data. Among them are DIRECTLY upgrading an unlimited line through Verizon and activating a dumbphone on an unlimited data line.

If you are asking just about the SIM card, they will send a new one with the phone.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I just received my new iPhone 6 in the mail today (using my brothers upgrade since he doesn't have a UDP line and I do). I know Mr. Toad had suggested that all i would have to do is swap the SIM cards but the pending activation would take longer to drop so what can I do to have the pending activation drop right away? how would i go about activating the new phone on my brothers line first and then switching it over to mine without losing my UDP?

Would I just go about following the activation instructions and activate the new iPhone 6 with the SIM card it came with on my brothers line wait an hour make some calls, texts, etc...& then go online and re-activate his line on his old phone (samsung galaxy s III) without having to swap SIMS so this way the iPhone 6 frees up? and then take my UDP SIM card from my old iPhone and put it in the new iPhone 6 and turn it on?

So sorry if this sounds confusing, but i really am appreciating all the help here!

If you don't want the pending activation you need to activate the SIM that comes with the phone.

You can leave it active on his line until it goes away.

You can activate the SIM and then use an adapter for your brother to use it on his Galaxy. You then take the iPhone right away.

I don't know how long the sim needs to be active to get the pending activation to go away. I do know it took 3 months for mine to go away when I did not activate the line.

do i have any other options besides using an adapter for the galaxy?

Thanks!!!

Keep the iPhone active until the pending activation goes away.

Why are you afraid of the pending activation? Are you using that line for any other upgrades in the next couple months?
