Yes. You don't really need to even activate the phone on line 2. You will just be left with a pending activation for a couple months. So, can't you just transfer the upgrade from L1 to L2 either on the BB site or Verizon, keep current data plan, order the phone, have shipped to home address, activate the new phone on L2 making a couple calls/texts, put the original L2 phone back on L2, and finally put the new phone on the UDP L1??

If you are transferring the upgrade you have to order from Verizon or Best Buy. Some say that best buy won't let them transfer the upgrade. If that happens, you need to order from just Verizon.Does it make a difference where I order the phone from??
Hi, what an amazing community!
I've managed to hang on to mine for a while, but I'd like to upgrade soon.
Current State:
- Line 1: Android Smartphone (LG G2) - Unlimited Data - No Upgrade - My Phone
- Line 2: Dumb/Feature Phone - Upgrade Available - Mom's Phone
- Line 3: Dumb/Feature Phone - Upgrade Available - Uncle's Phone
The plan in the near future is to upgrade Line 2 (Mom) to an iPhone 6. As I understand it, I can go into a Verizon store, or online and just add data to Line 2, sign a 2-year contract, get a iPhone 6 and be on my way without losing Line 1's UDP. Line 2 doesn't need/use unlimited. Should be straight forward right?
In the near-er future I would like to use Line 3's (Uncle) upgrade to purchase a new phone for Line 1 and keep my UDP on Line 1. Preferably I would like to do this without interfering with Line 3's service, but I'll take what I can get. I know in the past I could transfer upgrades, but that doesn't work anymore. I think I would have to upgrade this line to a permanent data plan also in order to receive a smartphone? That's not preferable, but it's worth it. Reading above, if I upgrade Line 3 I should activate the new smartphone on Line 3, then deactivate it, active Line 3's dumb phone, then activate the new phone on Line 1 and all should be well... right?
BB is on the way; ordered it on Sat and will arrive following Tuesday as per email. Curious question. I USED L2 to order from BB initially, and what happens if I activate this new arrival phone on the other line? such as L1, L4, or L5, not that I will do this but was curious to think what happens if I put the other old simcard to the new phone L2 upgrade?
Follow up with BB purchase of Samsung S5
the phone arrived yesterday evening. Before powering up the S5, took out the simcard and put the old simcard. phone worked fine with data as described. we still have UDP on the L2 (old samsung s3) as expected. but here is little problem, actually big problem.
the calling feature do not work properly, call out and receiving works fine but can hear it sometimes and other times it work with static sound.
want to call verizon for help but concerned if they will remove UDP by any means.
Does anyone have similar problem? Once again, UDP remained by using old simcard and but calling feature does not work properly (the other side can not hear). Please help.
How did you order the S6? I thought it wasn't going to be released until the 11th of April.
Sounds like you might have a problem with the SIM card or the phone might be defective. Do you have another line you can try the phone on with a different SIM card? Are you using VoLTE?
If you call Verizon you need to careful if you have a pending activation. I have had many phones replaced on unlimited lines
I don't know which setting i have the phone on. VoLTE or default. I have it as default setting.
short answer... three words: Best Buy method
long answer:
(1) order new smartphone from BestBuy.com
(2) make sure it's shipped directly to your HOME
(3) when it arrives, do NOT turn on the phone
(4) remove the SIM card and destroy it, burn it, throw it off a cliff,(don't give it to the dog, as it's a choking hazard)
(5) take the SIM card from your current phone with UDP
(6) insert that SIM card into you spanking new smartphone
(7) power it on and immediately start streaming porn or Netflix(as much as humanly possible)
(8) check you Verizon online acct every couple of days for the next 13 days.
(9) if it still says unlimited as of the 14th day, you're safe
(10) if not, immediately return the phone to your nearest Best Buy store on the 14th day.
I would order the S5 on line 2 from a third party like Best Buy. When you get the Phone discard the sim without turning the phone on. This will avoid the data requirement for line 2. Put the S5 on your line. I would then pay cash for the dumb phone. I personally feel it is a waste to get a dumbphone subsidized.Been reading most of the posts about keep unlimited data on here, want to make sure it's still valid and working. Here's what I have currently.
Line 1. razr maxx (UDP)
Line 2. Mom basic dumb phone, eligible for upgrade. Upgrading to another dumb phone
Line 3. Dad basic dumb phone, eligible for upgrade.
Looking to upgrade Line 1 to S5.
Actually, if you upgrade your mom's line to a smartphone, it will be much easier for you to upgrade your own line using her rather than your uncle. Granted, the upgrade can be done using either line. Basically, you would do the following:
1.) Log into Verizon or Best Buy and transfer your upgrade to either Line 2 or Line 3. Order the phone you want and have it shipped to home.
2.) If you use Line 2, activate the phone normally for about an hour. Make sure it works with calls, texts, and data. After an hour, log into Verizon and reactivate the iPhone 6. Then, take the new phone and put it on Line 1.
3.) If you use Line 3, rather than activate the phone normally, you will activate it directly onto Line 1. This can be done by either swapping SIMs (if they are the same size) or activating online through Verizon with the IMEI and SIM numbers.
When you are ready to upgrade, there are folks here who can guide you through the process. If you use Line 2, upgrade your mom first. If you use Line 3, you can upgrade at any time regardless of your mom's line.
Finally, as long as Line 3 has an upgrade on it, you do not need to transfer your upgrade. Like I said, when you ready just let us know.
1. Upgrade Line 2 to the iPhone 6.I'm a bit confused by your Bullet 1. I don't have an upgrade on Line 1, I have available upgrades on Lines 2 and 3. Can you clarify that part? Maybe you're thinking when this upgrade is available.
On Bullet 3, you're saying this is if I want to use Line 3's upgrade to end up with a new phone on Line 1, correct? If I buy a new Samsung S6 via the Verizon site (through the "Upgrade Line 3" wizard) and the SIM is the same size as my current LG G2 (should be), then when I get the phone I just put the SIM currently in my G2 into the S6 and be on my merry way? I was under this impression Verizon closed this hole and that it would remove your UDP, but that may have been mis-information. You guys seem to have this down to a science.
do you think i can take the phone to the verizon store and have them look at the phone? is there a possible to lose UDP? once they find out if i had ordered phone from BB and used my existing simcard?
