[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Sanity check before I pull the trigger

Line 1 UDP on contract: S5
Line 2 UDP upgrade eligible : S3

I cut the s3 sim down to nano and put it back in the s3. I want to order an iPhone 6 from best buy and simply use the cut nano sim. I have used the best buy method before to get the s5. Will best buy ship the iPhone? What about our assurion insurance. Will it cover the new iPhone? I know the rates are different.

Before I commit does anyone see any issues I will in counter?

I noticed everyone is switching their upgrade to another line. Does the original Best Buy method no longer work?

It still works. People are switching upgrades to tiered lines (if available) in order to avoid a pending activation on the account.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You have two options:

1.) Cut your pre-existing SIM to nano; remove the SIM that comes with the S6; and put your modified old SIM directly into the phone before turning it on or plugging it in.
or
2.) Since you used a different line's upgrade (Line 2) you can just activate the S6 directly onto Line 1. Log into Verizon online and activate the device using the IMEI and SIM numbers that come with the S6.

I would try option 2 first before cutting your old SIM; however, either way should work.

This may be a dumb question, but I am new to this, but how do I activate the device using the IMEI and SIM numbers that come with the S6. Will I not have to use my sim card from my S3 and instead use the new sim card? I just want to make sure I keep my unlimited data, Thanks for the help.

You can use the SIM that comes with phone. Just do the following:

1) log into Verizon online
2) select "activate or switch device"
3) select the line 1
4) select activate new phone that has never been on the account before
5) select preexisting SIM
6) type in the IMEI and SIM numbers into the appropriate boxes (they should be on the outside of the shipping box)
7) follow the rest of the directions

When you are done, you'll have the new phone on an unlimited line. You can do the opposite (use the upgrade from line 1) to get a new phone for line 2 whenever you want.

This prevents you having to cut your old SIM. If you are having problems, cutting your old SIM would solve them.

Best Buy ships the iPhone. Your insurance is with the line and not the phone. It will be fine.

You have done this before. Just do the same and you'll be fine.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Forgive me for my ignorance. I didn't notice Verizon got so strict with keeping your unlimited data. I have a Note 3 and I am trying to upgrade to the M9. The second phone I have on my account is a basic LG env3 that my son uses. My note 3 line qualifies for an upgrade, when I went to VZW today they said no matter what I do I will lose my unlimited data but now reading all the post I realize that I may have options to keep it and upgrade. Is the best buy method the safest method? I was going to order from VZW.com but I realize that I may get stuck with a 30 data plan on my son's phone and that would be pointless. Sorry again but I just want to make sure I use the best method to keep my data and get a new phone. I hate this Note 3.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

What lines do you have upgrades on.
If you order the m9, don't turn it on and destroy the SIM. You will then need to cut your sim to nano or get a new one active on your line.

Just make sure the phone on your son's line is good. If you swap his phone anytime soon it might get stuck with data.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It's my first time trying to upgrade w/ BB.com; just to make sure, is it normal for the final page before purchasing the phone upgrade to be a 'Verify Your Wireless Account' page ending with the 'Send To Carrier' button?

My phone came today from Best Buy, but it didn't come with the free wireless charger. Anyone else have that happen?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi there,
line 1-UDP iphone 5s (had upgrade)
line 2-TDP Galaxy 3 (no upgrade)

I transferred my upgrade from line 1 to line 2 and ordered the Galaxy 5 from Best Buy. Can you run threw exactly what I do now to prevent losing the unlimited on line 1? I want the G5 to be on line 2 and the Iphone 5s on line 1. I just didn't have an upgrade for line 2 so i had to use the one on line 1.
I know you have probably already repeated this a million times but I am not tech savvy.

Since you transferred the upgrade just follow the directions and activate the phone on line 2. You don't have to do anything else.

Was it already active in that line? If it was you are good to go. It will cover what ever the active phone is on that line. No further action needed.

Yes it is normal.

Best Buy needs to confirm you are eligible for the upgrade.

It's likely shipped separately, check your order confirmation and see if there were two separate tracking #s for the packages.
