[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

for my situation, do I just upgrade his phone through Best Buy, then just put my SIM in it?

Yes and no. You could do that if you cut your existing SIM to nano since both the Nexus 6 and S6 Edge use that size while the Note 3 is a micro. The other option is to follow the directions I just gave you.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So I am in the process of upgrading my phone based off of the tips discussed in the thread, the last time I did this was 2 years ago and some of the loopholes have closed. I currently have

Line 1 UDP no upgrade
Line 2 UDP no upgrade
Line 3 TDP no upgrade
Line 4 Basic phone with upgrade

I went onto the BB website and ordered the S6 by transferring the line 4 upgrade to the line 3. I plan on switching the line 3 new phone to the line 1 phone when it arrives after I activate it on the line 3 for an hour. I just received a txt from BB stating that there was an issue with the mobile package order. has any one else had this issue?
**Update it was a BB computer issue they said it happens frequently

It's a computer issue because Verizon blocks basic phone upgrades to being transferred to a smartphone line. This happened back in November 2014. The good news is that you can still upgrade to the S6. What current phone is on Line 1 that you want to replace?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

the phone that I want to replace is a S4. I know the SIM's are different types but after I activate it on line 3 will I need to go to Verizon to get a new micro sim to put the phone on line 1?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You are right on the money with what needs to be done. You won't need to cut your SIM or use an adapter. You might have to swap SIMs if they match, but Verizon's system will direct you on what to do.

Need a little help. I got the S6 and activated under the line I ordered it for. I waited about 1.5 hrs and went online. I see all of the devices and attempted to switch the service on s6 to my s4. It is telling me the sim cards are not campatible and I need to call customer support. Is this a bad thing?

Can I go to a VAR and get them to move my UDP service to a nano sim? The other issue is that the phone line I upgraded has a nano sim and I want to move this line to my S4 with has a micro sim. I need one moved from a micro to a nano and one moved from a nano to a micro... I don't mid paying for the sims but don't want to mess with my UDP.

UPDATE: I went to the local VAR and they took care of me. The guy had a phone with UPD as well so he understood. Cost me $20 for each sim but my situation was a little unique since my sims were different.
Thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

New to site and have an upgrade question.

Line 1: iPhone 5 UDP with upgrade
Line 2: iPhone 5c UDP without upgrade
Line 3: no phone, dumb line without upgrade

I want to use the upgrade available on line 1 to upgrade the line 1 phone without losing my UDP. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So buying from bb for one line with upgrade to keep udp, choose upgrade my device and then 2 year contract? Don't power on just swap sim's first when I get it before doing anything else is that the gist of it? Sorry I'm a disabled vet with some brain trauma takes me longer to get stuff.

You got it. Just make sure the SIMs are the same size before you order.

It works this way...I'm 99% sure that Verizon will not let you move your basic upgrade to your tiered account. This has been closed since November 14, 2014. Because of this, you have one option to upgrade:

1.) Order the S6 using the upgrade on your basic line. Have the phone shipped to home. Feel free to use either Best Buy or Verizon
2.) When the new phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in
3.) Log into Verizon online and select "activate or switch device"
4.) Select Line 1 - the unlimited line you want the phone to be on
5.) Select a phone that has never been on the account before
6.) Select use a pre-existing SIM
7.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers that come with the S6

Finally, follow the rest of the activation instructions and enjoy the S6 on your unlimited line!

What new phone do you want?

Correct. If the SIMs are the same size, just swap them. If the SIMs are a different size, you'll need to either cut or get an adapter for the old one.

dusoccer10, so as I'm attempting to do this with a Galaxy S6 on the VZW website, I am still being asked to pick a data plan for the new phone ($39.99/month). My understanding is that if I never activate the phone on that line, I'll never be charged $39.99/month, correct? So then, won't Verizon wonder why I used my upgrade, but never actually activated the phone to initiate the new data plan?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have an HTC Dna. I want to get the HTC One M9. Will the best buy method work for me? Single line plan UDP

Will this work with Next? Id rather pay $25 a mo for my new phone...do you have to do the 2yr contract?

I assume you mean Edge as this about Verizon. You cannot use Edge to upgrade as you must choose a new plan to use it.

In your case, just order the phone from Best Buy and cut your SIM from the DNA.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

iPhone 6 or 6 plus

Just order the phone you want from Best Buy and have it shipped to home. When it comes, do not turn it on or plug it in. Instead, remove the SIM that comes with it and destroy it. Then take the SIM from your iPhone 5 and put it in the new one. Turn on the new phone and your are all set.

You have to select a new plan. However, it never becomes active because you do not activate the new phone on the basic line.

It's highly unlikely that you will get audited. Now doing the method will result in a pending activation on your basic line for a few months. Just don't change your plan during this time and you'll be fine.

Awesome! Yeah, that line will never be changed. And thank you for the quick reply!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi! I've been following this thread for a while now, and I too, like other people, would just like to confirm the steps needed in my scenario to upgrade my phone without losing my unlimited data. So here is what I think I'm supposed to do... any confirmations or other suggestions will be greatly appreciated! first off, my situation. i've had my note 2 with verizon for about 2.5 years now and am eligible for an upgrade but haven't been doing so because i have unlimited data and don't want to lose that.

1. buy galaxy s6 from best buy website and have it shipped home.
2. without turning it on, take out sim card that came in the s6 and put in sim card that was in my note 2(planning to buy sim cutter from amazon)
3. turn phone on, and voila? will i have unlimited data and a spanking brand new phone?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello Gurus:
I currently have Nationwide Tlk&Share 2000 min with 3 lines
-Iphone 4S with upgrade
-Galaxy S4 no upgrade (my phone)
-Non smartphone no upgrade
-My phone is the S4 and I want to LEAVE the family plan, purchase a Galaxy S6 Edge but KEEP my UDP. At the same time I know I cant use my own upgrade so I am upgrading the iPhone 4S to a 6.
-How can I leave the plan, keep my unlimited data plan and what plan would that likely be? I understand I will probably have to pay full retail for the S6 Edge.

Thank you in advance for any/all help!
