[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Dam guess I gotta wait and just order online the guy at best buy wasn't having it lol he said there's no possible way to use an unlimited upgrade without losing unlimited data lol he then told me if I find a way to come let him know haha!
Anyone know the new way to transfer upgrade with best buy online?

Check my post to you from earlier today. It should have a link to picture directions on how to move an upgrade on Best Buy.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello everyone I'm new to the forum this is my first post! I'm hoping to find some detailed guidance I don't know the lingo or the ins and outs:( I have a samsung galaxy s3 with unlimited data upgrade available and an iPhone 5 with tiered data no upgrade available. Is it possible to upgrade my unlimited line to the galaxy s6 without losing my unlimited data?

Yes. Just do the following:

1) transfer your upgrade to the tiered line at either Best Buy or Verizon's website.
2) order the S6 and have it shipped to home.
3) When it arrives activate it on the tiered line for at least an hour.
4) power off the S6
5) log onto Verizon's website and reactivate the old phone on the tiered line
6) activate the S6 on your unlimited line.

yes my mom has unlimited data too

Ok. Do the following:

1) order the iPhone using your mom's upgrade.
2) When the phone arrives do not turn it on or plug it in
3) log onto Verizon's website and select "activate or switch device".
4) select your unlimited line
5) Choose a device that has never been on the account before.
6) Activate the iPhone with the IMEI and SIM numbers that come with the phone.

Ok activate it on the tiered line with the new sim that comes with it or the sim that's in the iPhone now? And then which sim do I use when I activate it on the unlimited line?

What current phones and plans do you have? How many have unlimited data? Depending on your responses will determine the best course of action.

Hey dusoccer10 I really appreciate any help you can suggest on my 5 UDP phones and how I can upgrade all of them. The 2 BestBuy phones will be here on Monday and I am not sure if I should just refuse them. I really don't have the money but the only other option I can come up with is to pay full price on the other 3 phones unless you can suggest a better(cheaper) option. Sorry to bother you with all of my posts, I just saw you address others posts and not mine and wasn't sure if you just missed it. Again thank you for any help you can offer

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

quick question.. here's my situation
I want to upgrade my udp phone
Line 1 - UDP - upgrade available
Line 2 - 2GB/month - no upgrade available
as of recently, does anyone know if I will lose unlimited data if I transfer the upgrade from udp to 2gb line then upgrade phones? I'm hearing things about closed loopholes and wanna be sure this works alright

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here is my situation:
Line 1: Note 3 TDP upgrade available
Line 2: iPhone 6 TDP no upgrade available
Line 3: iPhone 5S UDP no upgrade available
Line 4: Note 3 UDP no upgrade available

I want to upgrade line 4 to a Nexus 6

Can I just go into Verizon and upgrade line 1 to the Nexus 6, use it for a day or 2, and then just transfer the phone to line 4? Do I need to worry about SIM cards in this situation? Do I still need to buy a sim cutter for line 4 Note 3 and put that SIM in the Nexus 6 when I transfer phone lines or is this not necessary because I'm not activating a new phone to the line? Also, after the switch is made, can we re-activate line 1 Note 3 with its original SIM or do I need to move the nanoSIM from Nexus 6 into a microSIM adapter and use that SIM in line 1 Note 3.

In the past I've used line 1 upgrade and just put line 4 SIM into that phone when it arrives and activate it like that but I have never had to deal with different sized SIMs. Can I just order online, buy a SIM cutter, and put line 4 SIM into the new device and just activate it? This would seem much simpler and easier. Thanks for the help.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok so I went again to another VAR to try to transfer UDP upgrade to TDP without upgrade and again I was told I can't do it without losing the data plan she even showed me that when she clicked on it it automatically applies the 6gb max plan? Is there something I'm doing wrong or missing here? Am I supposed to agree to what she's saying and just do the upgrade hoping she doesn't know what she's taking about? I am going absolutely crazy I've been without a phone for 3 days and to top it off I don't have a computer or house phone just have this tablet and a totaled s4 fml lol please HELP ME!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

after reading a bunch of forums, I believe the whole process has to be done online - verizon or bestbuy.com - without speaking to any reps. I'm just not sure if the transfer upgrade method, in general, works anymore b/c i haven't seen any recent posts about people's experiences

In this case you can go in store. You do not need to move sim cards or sorry about that. Just go online and move the phones around after a day or so.

so I won't need a new sim? and why do i need to use my moms line. can i use mine? or that the safest way

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you - and if i'm using the transfer update method to go from an iPhone 4 (3G, no sim card) to a 5s/s5 (4G, w/ sim cards), would this work? Would anything need to be done to the new phones sim card?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok activate it on the tiered line with the new sim that comes with it or the sim that's in the iPhone now? And then which sim do I use when I activate it on the unlimited line?

Just follow the directions that come with the phone. You'll end up using the iPhone's SIM because it is the same size as the S6. However, let Verizon's system guide you in doing that since you seem unsure of the process. When you power off the S6 and go to reactivate the old iPhone, you'll end up moving the SIM from the S6 back into the iPhone. At this point, you'll then activate the S6 with the SIM it shipped with on the unlimited line.

You need to use your mom's upgrade because of the type of phone you have. The iPhone 4 will not work with the Best Buy method since it does not have a removable SIM card. This means you have two options:

1.) Use the method I outlined. By doing this you end up reprogramming the SIM that comes with the phone to your unlimited data plan. You can order the new iPhone from either Best Buy or Verizon.

2.) If you want to use your upgrade, the only way possible is (1) order the iPhone from Best Buy, (2) remove the SIM card that comes with the phone when it arrives, and (3) take the phone to VAR for activation. This way works though it is easier to cause some problems if you run into a tricky VAR rep. However, there are plenty of people who have had success going this route.

It's fairly straightforward for someone in your situation. Just do the following:

1) transfer your upgrade to the tiered line at either Best Buy or Verizon's website.
2) order the new phone you want and have it shipped to home.
3) When it arrives activate it on the tiered line for at least an hour.
4) power off the new phone
5) log onto Verizon's website and reactivate the old phone on the tiered line
6) activate the new phone on your unlimited line.

Enjoy the upgraded phone!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Success! I would like to thank you so much for all of your help! !!!! I am now quoting from my new Samsung Galaxy S6 on my unlimited data plan! For a run through how I accomplished the task with all of the information from this post!
Best buy was a no go as well as any store with verizon in its name lol first I went to staples but some of them don't carry the s6 yet and the ones that do only carry the 32gb model. Next went to sams club and watched as he did everything on the computer which was exactly as it was explained here. I think bestbuy and other var stores have a different software or something because his was just like if you were to log into your verizon account. So I transferred L1 UDP upgrade to L2 TDP and activated it right there at the store. Then I brought the iPhone 5 to a VAR and had them activate my wife's "OLD" iPhone 5c since the sim card from my galaxy s4 was a micro. After about 2 hours I went to verizon online to swap phones on line 1&2 but it said I couldn't because there was a pending activation. Then the little chat window popped up with verizon customer service rep asking if he could assist me I asked if he could swap phones and he did! That's my success story
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge 64gb UDP contract end date 5/10/2017! $386 not including accessories tax and upgrade fees

The short answer is to stop going into stores. While our methods work, most reps will not do them in person. This is why everything starts with ordering the phone online. I know you need a phone like yesterday, but if you follow the steps I outlined previously, you'll get what you want.
