[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have a question about the process I used. I read a few posts about doing the transfer upgrade to get off the iPhone 4 so I decided to give it a shot. I transferred my upgrade to a non data non smart phone and purchased an iPhone 6. When I got the phone I tried to activate as a new device under the iPhone 4 number using the device number and number of the SIM card. I was having issues with the SIM so verizon created one for the information of the iPhone 4 account data. When I then tried to activate as a new device with that SIM it asks me to select a new data plan.

Am I screwed or is there something I can do to keep my ULD plan and activate the iPhone 6?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have any lines that are in contract? The picture you posted clearly states that your two year upgrade will become available 02/17/2016. This message only shows for phone lines that are in-contract.

Worst case scenario is that you can order from Verizon if you want as the method works there as well.

yeah when i go on my verizon page it says we are all out of contract and can get upgrades. I don't get it.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Here's my scenario. I'm on a Nationwide Talk & Text Share 2000 plan.

Line 1: UDP Moto X (upgrade available)
Line 2: UDP iPhone 4S without SIM (upgrade available)
Line 3: TDP iphone 5C (no upgrade)
Line 4: Basic phone, no data (upgrade available 5/23/2015)

I'd like to transfer an upgrade to line 3 and order the Droid Turbo. Does it matter if I use an upgrade from line 4 (basic phone) or from line 2 (UDP)?

Ultimately I want the Droid Turbo on line 2 and don't want to lose line 2's UDP.

It sounds like when the Droid Turbo arrives I can put it on line 2 using Verizon's web site. But I'm not sure how to put the Droid Turbo on line 2, because I don't have a SIM in the iPhone 4S that can be put in the Turbo. From what I'm reading in current posts it seems like I should:

1) When the new Droid Turbo arrives, don't turn it on or plug it in
2) Log into Verizon's website
3) Select "activate or switch device"
4) Select Line 2
5) Select "phone that has never been on the account before"
6) Select "use pre-existing SIM"
7) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers that came with the new Droid Turbo.
8) Follow the rest of the directions to activate the phone

Will that work? And, at what point do I finally turn on the Droid Turbo? After I do step 8?

Your method is very easy. Just do the following:

1.) Transfer your upgrade from Line 2 to Line 3 (you cannot use the basic line's upgrade in this method) at either Best Buy or Verizon's website; order the Turbo and have it shipped to home
2.) When the Turbo arrives, follow the activation instructions that come with the phone so that you activate it on Line 3 (the tiered line)
3.) Wait at least an hour and make sure that everything works
4.) Power off the Turbo and the iPhone 4
5.) Take the SIM out of the Turbo and put it into the iPhone 5c. This will reactivate the 5c on the tiered line
6.) Log into Verizon's website and click "activate or switch device"
7.) Choose Line 2
8.) Select activate a phone that has been on the account before. Choose the Turbo
9.) Select use pre-existing SIM
10.) Use the old SIM that was in the 5c and type both the IMEI and SIM numbers in the appropriate boxes
11.) Follow the rest of the directions for activation

Whenever you want to upgrade the other unlimited line, feel free to follow these steps again.

That is very odd as I'm not sure why Best Buy is showing you don't have an upgrade. When you go through Best Buy, do you start with the upgrade checker?

Where did you order the iPhone 6 from?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

i just did it that way and say I'm eligible and then it takes me to the phones to buy it takes me to the exact same window thats says i have to use edge.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

could i try using my own phones upgrade with best buy if i already have a correct sim or will i need to program the sim on an existing verizon phone before use in new iPhone?

Was it still showing the wrong upgrade date like you previous screenshot?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Do you have an active nano-SIM that is programmed to unlimited? If so, you can definitely go that route.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I transferred my upgrade from a GS4 (L1) to a Basic (L2) and now L1 shows a new contract end date? Is this a correct display?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks, seems very straight forward. I'm thinking about changing up steps 1-2 a little, and doing this:

1) transfer the upgrade from Line 2 to Line 3 on Verizon's web site
2) go to a Verizon store with the iPhone 5c on Line 3 and upgrade to the Droid Turbo

If I do that, can I then pick up at the original step three you wrote, and go from there? Or is there some good reason to not step foot in a Verizon store?

Verizon reps won't let you do that. When dealing with reps there is always a chance that they manually switch you off unlimited. That's why every method involves shipping to home.

I'm not sure if its active i just got it straight from verizon for an iPhone 5s but i ended up not being able to use the phone, so its never been used.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Interesting! So if I switch the sim card, will the GS6 now show up on the VZW site for my devices?

Yes. When you go to myverizon whatever line you are using the S6 on will show the little phone icon of the S6. I think that's what you are asking...?
