[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks for the help.

One other question, does anyone know if I have to backup the contacts on the iPhone 4? Since I'll be at first activating the iPhone 4 line on the S6, and then switching back and reactivating the iPhone 4 under its old line. I'm assuming everything will be there when I reactivate, but I'm not 100% positive on that.

As long as you do not wipe the iPhone, it should maintain all its data.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

tried to use the bestbuy method and I was told there was a problem and that to fix it they would have to manually call Verizon in order to finish the order. So I cancelled the order. Why did this happen and if I try the method again will it happen again? Also could I use Amazon instead?

Best Buy randomly checks upgrades with people have an unlimited data plan. This is common and you'll just need to try again.

As for Amazon, you'll most likely get hit with their ETF in about 6 months.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello again,

The other users of the other phone lines on my account want to upgrade their phones. I have 3 lines and all of them are eligible for upgrade. Line 1 and 2 have a UDP and line 3 has a 2GB TDP. Is there a way to get phone 3 onto phone 2's plan so that phone 3 has a UDP and phone 2 has a TDP since it only uses 0.1 gb a month. Is it possible to give line 2, line 3's phone number? Ex: Let's say phone 2's number is 123-456-7890, and phone 3's number is 987-654-1111. If I switch phone 3 to line 2 will it be given phone 2's number, 123-456-7890? And if it does, can I give the new line 2 it's old number from when it was phone 3 (987-654-1111) and give the new line 3 it's old number from when it was phone 2 (123-456-7890)? If this isn't possible could someone explain a plan to me where all the phones get to upgrade and phone 3 gets the UDP and phone 2 gets the TDP while phone 1 keeps its UDP. Even better, is it possible to get a UDP for line 3 resulting in all of the lines having a UDP. If this isn't clear please tell me what's unclear and I'll try to explain it differently.

The only possibility of getting an unlimited data line is via an assumption of liability. Even then, there is no promise that it will actually work as Verizon reps are instructed to change the assumption to a current plan. With the right rep, you might be able to do this, but you are on your own if you go this route.

Now, switching phone numbers to match your wants is not going to be easy. You can try calling Verizon and see if they will do it for you. If they are willing, then you can get what you want. Odds are they will not do it. If Verizon will not move them, there is a method, but it's not for the faint of heart. It involves porting out to Google Voice, requesting a new number, and porting back into Verizon. If you really want to go this route, I can give you the directions

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Does your mom want a smartphone or keep the basic? Depending on this answer will determine what is the best way to proceed.

Yes, my mother would like to keep the basic line as is. She wants to avoid higher cost on the line if possible.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Ok so i took the plunge and am trying best buy method. Funny it wouldn't let me transfer upgrade so I had to do it on my UDP line ...so scared...however I coppied the terms of service. Never through the website did it ever prompt me to review my plan or change or keep anything....so I am doing it on my UDP line and when the phone gets here I am putting in my husband's SIM from his phone on his line into the device. So hopefully it won't change anything if it does though I read that customer agreement and it only says you "may" have to change to a plan they offer if yours is currently not offered. I didn't change anything or have to acknowledge that the UDP was no longer in existence so if they try to switch me I will call and it will be put back lol....I did nothing wrong :) so fingers crossed it goes without a hitch....I'll let y'all know. If it does that would be great because we can drop the two dummy lines at and extra $20 a month.

Ok. There is no way to avoid a pending activation, but the easiest way to upgrade the smartphone:

1.) Use the upgrade on the basic line and order the new smartphone from Best Buy or Verizon online. Have the phone shipped to home.
2.) When it arrives do not turn it on or try to charge the phone.
3.) Log into Verizon online and go to "activate or switch device"
4.) Select your sister's line
5.) Select "Activate a device that has never been on the account before"
6.) Type in the IMEI and SIM numbers that came with the new phone.
7.) Follow the rest of the directions to activate the new smartphone

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Can someone review this plan and tell me if this is how I should go about upgrading 2 UDPs and 1 TDP?

Line 1: Samsung Note 2 UDP - Yes upgrade

Line 2: Samsung Note 2 UDP - Yes upgrade

Line 3: iPhone 5 2GB TDP - Yes upgrade

1. Buy note 4 from best buy for line 1 and line 2 and s6 edge for line 3.

2. Wait for it to arrive.

3. When it arrives do not turn on the note 4s and put the old note 2 SIM cards in it.

4. Put the new SIM card from the s6 edge into its respective phone and turn it on.

5. Check if it's working, and if it does switch it with the note 2.

That would work. You'll end up with a pending activation on all three lines so make sure you do not want any plan changes. The pending activation will fall off after a month or so.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

If the Google voice method keeps my 2 UDPs on my account and doesn't cost too much (sub $50), I'm interested in that method. I'll ask if VZW can switch the numbers for me. And since all of the line users on my VZW account want to upgrade, how would I go about that? This is the account data.

Line 1: Samsung Note 2 UDP - Yes upgrade

Line 2: Samsung Note 2 UDP - Yes upgrade

Line 3: iPhone 5 2GB TDP - Yes upgrade

Basically, you follow the steps here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/message/975323#975323 to port the numbers to Google Voice and request a new Verizon number. After a week or so, you can then port the numbers back to Verizon (look at #3 at The MORE Everything Plan | Verizon Wireless).

As for upgrading, you plan works fine though it leaves a pending activation on all three lines. If you wanted to avoid that, you could just use the transfer upgrade method with your tiered data line.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

hey i had a quick question i have a friend that is trying to use the best buy method he has 2 lines

line 1: UDP no upgrade available he wants a new phone on this line but not on the other

line 2 UDP upgrade available he purchased the upgrade through best buy

question is how can he use the upgrade of line 2 for line 1

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Won't the pending activation fall off after a week to a month? I'm planning on getting the note 4 from best buy.

Yes, though, it can take as long as 2-3 months. No one really knows the exact length of time it takes to fall off.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thank you so much!

Last question. I believe I came upon a post of someone telling another to find a 4G phone somehow and get a sim from a corporate store and once the new phone arrives use the sim from the store and not to use the new phone's sim at all. I shouldn't be wary about using the new sim?

Different means to the same end result. Generally, it is preferred that a person have an active 4g LTE phone already on the line. This way, one can always use the current/active SIM if necessary. However, it is still possible to upgrade without one.

The only time you should be worried about using the new SIM is if you accidentally activate the phone on the basic line. That would cause the data plan to come into effect. Otherwise, SIM cards can be reprogrammed to other lines. That's what you end up doing in the steps provided.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi all, hoping for some help.

I have a broken Galaxy S4 that I can fix for 100 dollar insurance claim, or I have an upgrade on my UDP line. There are three other TDP lines that don't have upgrades. Can I just transfer my upgrade from my UDP to a TDP, get an upgrade, and switch the sim cards? Is there anything that would prevent me from doing this? It seems like a really simple work around.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just attempted to get the Note 4 for $1 on bestbuy.com method. it never ask me to change my plan at any point, so i should be fine right? going from Note 3 so SIM swap wont be an issue.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

rice2019 double check your order. I tried to get the $1 Note 4 using Internet Explorer and Firefox and the price switches to $299.99 on the VERY last page. Guys don't get bait/switched during this sale. I have an Upgrade on a UDP line and it remains priced at $1 even after it verifies my account with Verizon, but on the last page after payment, shipping, and offer confirmation it goes up to the standard price.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

You have the right idea. Once the S6 arrives home, just do the following:

1.) Activate it on the tiered line. You should be able to follow the directions that came with the phone since you ordered it on the tiered line.
2.) Wait at least an hour and make sure the phone works
3.) Power off the S6
4.) Log into Verizon online and reactivate the iPhone
5.) Power off the S3 and activate the S6 on the unlimited line

I've run into a problem. I activated the S6 under the iphone 4 2gb TDP line, no problem. But now when I log into Verizon and go to reactivate the iPhone 4 under it's old ph#, it says there's a data compatibility error, and it wants me to agree to a 7GB bundle plan for $70 a month, instead of the normal 2gb TDP that was on the line.

Any ideas?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Correct. Plan changes only happen when you activate the new phone with the SIM that shipped with it. Assuming you get the phone shipped to home, you'll be good to go by using your already active SIM.
