[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

So if my plan is nationwide talk and text with unlimited data would i not be eligible? I got 4 unlimited lines

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

1.) Since I am buying it at full-price would you buy the T-mobile version or the Sim-free version? I have read differing opinions on this. Remember I would be using it on my Verizon L2 ULD for a couple months until the new phones are out.
2.) Just want to make sure - activating this phone on the ULD L2 won't override my Verizon upgrade linked to that line will it?
3.) Finally, as described on the slick deals blog, could I try ordering the full price phone through the Comcast link which takes you to the verizon iconic portal in order to get a $150 gift card? I understand the warnings of not pushing for the gift card too much.

1.) Buy the SIM-Free version.
2.) It won't affect your upgrade in any capacity. When the new phone arrives, just power off your 5s and remove its SIM. Take that SIM and put it in the new 6. That's all you need to do to activate the 6 on the unlimited line.
3.) The Comcast gift card only goes towards on-contract or Edge purchases and not full price.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Grandfathered UDP on Vzn like others.
1 line, 450 mins, UDP
Currently have Galaxy Nexus Toro workhorse but its slowly bricking the last 2 months. So slow..

Best Buy currently has $1 LG3 and $199 LG4 with $100 rebate card. Would love to use BB method, but very cautious/worried about losing UDP, average data use is over 20GB/month.

Advice?

That's your only option if you want discounted pricing for a new phone; otherwise, you'll need to pay full price or buy used.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

When i want to order from verizon it asks me to pick a data plan for the non smart line im upgrading to a smart phone...wont i be stuck paying on that plan for 2 years even though im not going to activate a new phone on that line?

As long as you follow the directions I provided, you will not get stuck with a data plan on the basic line. You only get stuck with the data plan if you activate the phone on the basic line. Both methods provided bypass the activation on the basic line as you activate the phone directly onto the unlimited data line.

2) So after I insert the SIM from my 5s into the new 6, do I need to do anything online at myverizon? Or will it automatically recognize the new phone? Just trying to understand the steps.
3.) Hopefully I can use the portal when I use the upgrade in September. What are the chances the new iPhones will be eligible for the gift card?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Thanks in advance for an answer, great service you're providing.

I have three lines:
Line 1: UDP Samsung Galaxy S4, upgrade available.
Line 2: TDP Samsung Galaxy S4, upgrade not available.
Line 3: No data, dumb phone, upgrade available.

I would like to upgrade my Galaxy S4 to a S6 Edge while keeping my UDP.

The active SIM card will automatically program the 6 onto your Line. There is nothing else you need to do.

As long as Comcast is continuing to offer the discount, the new iPhones will be eligible.

I would like to upgrade my Galaxy S4 to a S6 Edge while keeping my UDP.

Easy enough:

1.) Through either Best Buy or Verizon online, transfer your upgrade from Line 1 to Line 2 and order the S6 edge. Have the phone shipped to home
2.) When the S6 edge arrives, activate it on the tiered line for an hour or so. Make sure calls, texts, and data all work
3.) After an hour, power off the S6 edge
4.) Log onto Verizon online and go to "activate or switch devices"
5.) Select Line 2
6.) Reactivate the S4 that was on the line previously and follow all remaining activation instructions

Once that is done, we just need to activate the S6 edge on Line 1:

7.) Log onto Verizon online and go to "activate or switch devices"
8.) Select Line 1
9.) Activate the S6 edge and follow all remaining activation instructions

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Question. Is there a safe way to go into a store (Costco, BB, etc...preferably Costco as they have cheapest price atm) and do this? I have an UDP line with an upgrade and a basic without one, but the basic has an Early Edge offer on it, so the online BB system did not work. VZW is way more expensive online for the phone I am looking at, plus has the $40 upgrade fee, which I am not sure if other places charge.

Can I go into say Costco, and buy it safely? As long as the phone is never turned on, will it work? Can I just tell them to transfer the upgrade to the basic line, buy a new phone, have them not turn it on, and then take it home and swap ESNs like any other method?

I would stay away from Costco. There is a warning of people losing unlimited data on slickdeals.net. Although if you had a tiered line you could probably do an upgrade swap in store.

You could just do the regular best buy method. I would prefer the phone from best buy online and destroy the SIM. Place your sim into the phone.

What phone do you have and what phone do you want? It is near impossible to do in-store the way you want to do it. Every once in a while a person will talk about their success in getting an unactivated phone in-store to do to some elaborate story. You are welcome to try, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

As for upgrading, Mr. Toad is correct in that the regular Best Buy method might work. That's why we need to know what phone you currently have and what new phone you want.

I have a razr maxx but I am trying to use my old basic phone line and upgrade from that to an s5 by transferring my upgrade to that line from the UDP razr maxx line. BB online won't work because it won't let me transfer the upgrade (I presume because the basic line has an early edge offer on it, which I am told prevents using BB online). I could order from VZW directly, but I don't want to pay 150 plus 40 upgrade fee for a phone that was $1 on BB last week.

Just do the regular Best Buy Method since the Razr Maxx and S5 both use a micro SIM:

1.) Order the S5 from Best Buy and have it shipped to home
2.) When the S5 arrives, do not turn it on or try to charge it
3.) Remove the SIM that comes with the S5 and destroy it
4.) Power off the Razr Maxx and remove its SIM card
5.) Insert the SIM card from the Razr Maxx into the S5

After that, all you need to do is power on the S5 and enjoy a new phone.

I can't order online from BB. When I try and transfer the upgrade from my UDP line to my basic line (which does not have an upgrade), it will not do it. I checked on VZW and I have an early edge offer on that basic line, which I have read prevents transferring the upgrade on the BB site.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I have 5 lines:
Line 1: UDP, iPhone 6+, upgrade available
Line 2: UDP, iPhone 4s, upgrade available...want iPhone 6
Line 3: SDP: iphone 6+, upgrade available
Line 4: SDP: iphone 5, no upgrade
Line 5: dumb phone, no upgrade

Line 2 desperately needs an upgrade. I had understood that Lines 1 and 2 would lose their UDP if they used their upgrades, AND if they transferred their upgrades. So, we have not transferred Lines 1 and 2's upgrades to other phones wanting to be upgraded.

1st question: Is this true?..that we cannot transfer Lines 1 and 2's upgrades without losing UDP?
2nd question: What's the best way to upgrade Line 2, keeping its UDP, (from what I read, and has been mentioned many times, get the phone at Apple Store, activate it on one of the SDP lines, then switch the sims?

Thanks.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hi everyone,

Here is my situation.

Nationwide Talk & Text Share 700 Plan
Line 1. Galaxy Note 2 - Unlimited Data (Upgrade Available)
Line 2. iPhone 4S - Verizon Max 6 GB Data (No Upgrade)
Line 3 Dumb Phone - No Data (Upgrade Available)

I don't use my phone much (since my work cell phone is a S6) but I would like to upgrade my phone before Verizon catches (or changes) this loophole we are all taking advantage of. I would like to upgrade the Galaxy Note 2 to Galaxy Note 4 Edge and the iPhone 4S to iPhone 6.

What method should I use? Can I do both at the same time or do I need to do one, then wait before I do the other?

I never said to transfer the upgrade. Just use the upgrade on the unlimited line. This is the tried and true Best Buy Method.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Line 1: 3G UDP Moto Droid (upgrade available)
Line2: 4g UDP Note 3 (upgrade not available).

Can I upgrade to an S6 to use on line2?
