[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hey guys just an update I was helped on here to get ud on my s6 a few months back (mid june). I had to transfer my upgrade to another line on my plan then activate, deactivate and activate again on my line. Well all is still well but I just realized there is an added bonus. None of my upgrades were effected! There must of been some kind of glitch in the Verizon system because I still have my upgrade (same upgrade date as before i got my new s6) and the line I transferred my upgrade to hasnt changed the upgrade date either.
I guess ill be getting a new phone again in the not to distant future.

Sorry I'm new here so I'm sorry if I've posted this already... I was thinking of the Samsung S6 Edge, but have read that the SIM will need cut down or that I'll need to purchase a new one from a Verizon contracted resale store. Do you know if this is correct? Thanks again for your help and bearing with my posting mistakes! :-)
You can call Verizon before you upgrade and say you got a new used phone. They should send you a new SIM. Otherwise you can hold to an authorized retailer and have them activate the phone on your line. They usually charge for the sim. My local VAR charges $25.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just double-checking that I'm understanding this entire process correctly so I don't screw it up somewhere along the line...

I'm confused about which line to choose because the directions say if choosing the basic line to upgrade, I can't change the phone or I'll be stuck with data on the line for 2 years.

Does this mean that I should choose to upgrade the Maxx (the line with UDP) and choose 2gb data when ordering on BB? When choosing the Samsung S6, it will only cost the discounted price that's listed for Verizon users on the site, right? (Definitely not wanting to pay full retail!)

Once S6 is received through the mail:
1. Do NOT turn on.
2. Destroy the new SIM.
3. Insert correct size SIM- Either have Verizon send one prior to ordering from BB and saying I got a used cell phone OR take Samsung S6 to VAR and pay to have it activated on my line, and UDP will remain intact.

I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to your help! I've tried reading through SlickDeals thread, and, truthfully, all the different posts left me overwhelmed. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! :D

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Quick question, I've got 2 UDP's and 2 Basic lines. I've logged into Best Buy but I cannot transfer my 1 eligible upgrade from my 1 UDP to my dummy line on their site, but I can transfer it on Verizonwireless.com. Should this method work much the same as the Best Buy method if I order through Verizon? Pop the sim from my wife's phone into the 6s once it arrives and carry on as usual? I did this last September and the "mandatory" data plan on the dummy line fell off after a few hours.. Anyone tried this lately?

Hey,

I've done this a week ago with iphone 6s plus and i upgraded thru verizonwireless.com on a dummy line. when the new phone came in, i threw out the sim card that came with it and put my working sim from nexus 6. So far i've been checking my account everyday to see if they have made any changes on my dummy line. So far nothing has been charged for data fee. only thing that has been changed is the contract date to 2 years now. I'll keep an eye on it for next 5 days. if everything works out then go ahead and try it.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Verizon Authorized Retailer, i.e. an non-corporate Verizon retail location
Thanks. I have the Nationwide 500 plan. My UDP line is eligible for an update. My wife's phone gets 2 GB in same plan but is not eligible for an update.

I don't think VZW will let me add any more lines to the NW500 plan. In fact as explained to me if I add ANY kind of line under my name my wife and I will both lose NW500 plan. Is that true? This is what I was told when I wanted to add a new gear watch that requires its own data.

Based on the above, if I understand what I have read here, there is no way for me to keep my udp and get any sort of discount on the s6 edge plus right?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Yes, the SGS6 has a nano SIM card. I believe the S3 probably uses a micro SIM card so it won't fit. You'll either have to cut the micro SIM to fit nano, either by buying a SIM cutter online or using scissors, or take the S6 to a VAR and have them give you a new SIM card with your existing line info on it, they may charge you $10.

When I go to VAR, how do I ask for them to give me a new nano sim? Do I just say I got a phone passed down to me and I need a new sim? Do I need to show them my old sim? Worried if they check in the computer that they can see that I upgraded my phone through best buy...then will lose udp.
Thx.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Quick question, has anyone used the Verizon device payment plan to upgrade and keep their unlimited data recently? I used it years ago without issue but with Verizon trying to take away everyones UDP's i'd like to make sure.

Also, because I can't transfer my upgrade on my UDP, if I order that phone directly on my line, once I get it I just pop the sim from the phone I want to upgrade it on and continue as usual?

Update:
When attempting to checkout on Best Buy.com with the 2 year price it's requiring a store pickup.. Any work arounds for this?

Ya - I tried to buy in store and they refused to sell it to me unless THEY activated it. I walked away

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

We are on a family plan.
L1 HTC1 UDP upgrade
L2 HTC1 UDP transferred upgrade to L5
L3 ip4 TDP no upgrade
L4 GS5 TDP no upgrade
L5 dumb phone no data upgrade

Just ordered GS6 and it arrived. Ordered it off of L5 upgrade. Trying to keep UDP on L2. Please assist on how to proceed. Thank you for your time and support.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Hello all, I was curious if this method of upgrading still worked and anyone used it. It worked for me a couple of years ago, but don't want to risk my unlimited data lines. I am on the family plan 2100 minutes with 2 unlimited data lines (smartphones), 1 tiered data package (smartphone) and 2 regular phones and all lines are eligible for upgrades. In the past, I had upgraded a regular phone to a smartphone for the subsidized price, added a tiered data plan and once I received the phone, transferred it to my active smartphone line and cancelled the new data plan on the old phone. It did keep the two year contract on the exiting regular phone for the upgrade. I know this sounds complicated to those who never did this but many of you know the process. Anyone in the know aware if this still works. Thanks

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I recently Pre-ordered the new iPhone 6S and want to make sure that I don't lose my UDP. Here is what i did:

I have a Verizon family plan:
L1: Note 4 with UDP (upgrade eligible)
L2: LG G3 TDP (no upgrade)

I transferred my upgrad from L1 to L2 and pre-ordered the new iPhone 6s on Verizon's website. So when I receive my new iPhone 6s in the mail, should I activate the iphone with the simcard that it came? (on L2) Wait a few hours, turn off the phone, reactivate the G3 back on L2 on Verizon's website. Turn off my Note 4, use a sim cutter to cut the sim card down to nano size then put the simcard in the new iPhone 6s? Will it automatically activate or do I have to activate it online? Thanks in advance!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I am on an Individual Plan with Unlimited Data.
I am currently using a Motorola Droid X (Original 3G) I believe this is a no-sim phone.

Looking to buy a Moto X Pure. Is there any way these days to keep the unlimited data plan going from a no-SIM phone?

The old advice I got for this for the S5 is the following (Is this still valid?):
1) Borrow a friend's unused 4g VZW phone. Take to a VZW store to get a working SIM for that temporary phone.
2) Use that temporary phone for a few days.
3) Buy the S5 from BestBuy.com and choose "keep existing plan" and have delivered to your home.
4) When the S5 is delivered DO NOT power it up under any conditions until the SIM from the temporary phone has been put in the S5. Treat the SIM which came from BestBuy with the new phone like it is toxic waste- never to be used under any circumstance.
5) Power up the S5 (using that temp. phone SIM) and make a call to any phone number.

That phone is not sold by Verizon so you don't have to use any loopholes to use your upgrade. Buy the phone take it to a Verizon corporate store and get a new SIM. Just verify they are keeping your unlimited data intact.

I believe they fixed the problem and the Moto X pure can activate a new sim now.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Just a quick question on using the Best Buy method to keep Unlimited Data on a single-line plan,

If you remove the new sim card from the new phone and use your existing sim card, will you:

1) Still keep Unlimited Data with your existing plan?
2) Avoid getting charged the $40 upgrade fee?

I am doing the exact same thing although I am sin one of my two basic lines to upgrade then drop the data package. I have to wait until the 26th for VZW to get more 128gb 6S+'s in stock. Can you let me know how it goes with you. I did this a few years ago but haven't since.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

i just read that verizon forces any subsidized line to commit to the two years of data which means they closed that loophole. anyone hear differently?
