[Instruction] How to get a new phone and keep (legacy) Unlimited Data on Verizon

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I'm curious why you say that. I've transferred upgrades and completed the process on the Verizon website. Is there a nuance to the Best Buy method that I'm not considering? I thought it was the same; transfer the upgrade, order phone, and either toss the SIM or activate on a TDP line.
Believe it or not everyone has TDP on the dummy line. I don't it's still under the nation wide. That's important because before you could do the BBM on Verizon and cancel the data plan portion of it. But, Verizon doesn't let you do that now. Verizon automatically starts the new plan since they are the ones shipping them out BB doesn't because they're a third party provider.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Okay so I'm a little confused on something, hopefully someone can chime in.

Currently have one UDP line off-contract. I want to upgrade via the best buy method. I know I'm supposed to discard the sim that comes with the phone I order and use the one in my old phone, however most of the phones I want to order use a nano sim and I have a micro sim. Do I order anyway and just go to a verizon store to get a nano sim? Or is there something else I should do?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I seem to have an issue trying to transfer the upgrade, I cannot do it through Best Buy. I tried to look into it more by searching google and it seems that if I'm not on a More Everything plan Best Buy wont allow me to transfer it, we're on a nationwide talk and text share plan. I tried to do it through Verizon which allowed me to transfer my moms upgrade to my brother but it wants me to complete the process of upgrading my brothers line on their website and if i log out and back in the transfer remains on my moms line. Best buy has the GS6 for $1.00 and verizon in $199 so that's quite a big gap. I tried through Costco but they try to force me onto a more everything plan at an additional $40/month. Am I doing something wrong? Can i still upgrade through Verizon on my brothers line like I did before with my G2 to keep my mom on a 2 years UDP contract?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

I think because they are doing an offer to get a free 24" TV. I was noticing that also. I am torn on trying that and then doing like somebody posted earlier today about when you go in to pick it up, saying it is a gift and getting them to not activate it.

Otherwise I was thinking about getting the S6, which ever one is the same price as V10 and then going back to the store to do an exchange for the V10. (Lots of memory, removable battery, and SD card! Winner, winner, chicken dinner) and there is an offer from LG for a 200gb card, x-tra battery and dock charger for buying the V10. I really wish they carried the new Nexus 5x at Best Buy. The first Nexus 6 is too big for me. The 6p would be better, at least it is newer tech.

DO NOT EXCHANGE YOUR PHONE!! The way Best Buy and Verizon handle exchanges is that it is considered a return and new purchase. If you do this in-store, the rep will move you off unlimited.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Last year I broke my note 3 taking the vzw case off of it (case pulled out volume rocker with it.) I got an Asurion replacement.

Why do I mention this?

I explained to my wife how this procedure would work and that I would tie up her iphone 6plus for a couple of hours doing the activation in her tdp through using her sim. Guess what kind of case she has on her beloved 6plus?

Anyway it's off now because she rightly questions my ability to take of her case , do the sim swap, second sim swap, put her case back on without breaking her iphone. Sadly, I am all thumbs and it is a fair probability.

Anyway..great thread and thanks for all the help but looks like I'll be paying the $20 and keeping the Note 3. Ugh.

Just transfer the upgrade to your wife's line and use it. The activation on the tiered line is just to wipe the pending activation off the account. If you do not plan on making any changes (i.e. adding mobile hotspot or modifiying minutes) for about a month, it will fall off and everything will revert back to normal.

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

iPhone 6s

Since all phones use a nano SIM, it doesn't really matter what you do. My advice would be to just order the iPhone 6s from Best Buy sing your wife's upgrade. When it arrives, back up your iPhone 6 and pull it's SIM. Put your old SIM in the 6s and restore it. This will get the 6s up and running on your line.

Now, wipe the 6 and back up your wife's 5. Remove her SIM and put it in the 6. Restore the 6 and she will be all set. The wipe the 5 and do whatever you want to it.

Either buy a SIM cutter off Amazon or take the phone to VAR.

Have you tried entering your brother's number into the cell phone upgrade checker? That's usually the first step.

I did, it said it was only able to upgrade at full retail, which got me to searching google. I would transfer on Verizon without completing the order and then go on BB, it would say only my moms line is eligible. This was a reply to a question asked by someone else on BB website.

Hi bigrb,

You are absolutely able to transfer upgrades between lines on your account! However, your Verizon Wireless plan must be on the MORE EVERYTHING plan in order to do this. If you are on an older plan (such as NATIONWIDE, AMERICA'S CHOICE), you won't be able to transfer upgrades until you move over to the newer plans.

There was something similar on Reddit. Could I call Verizon and see if they can make the transfer stick to my brothers line or is it too risky to get them involved? Do you now if I transfer the upgrade and complete the order on Verizon if the UDP line will be extended for 2 more years? I did it before, I am just not sure if Verizon shut that down yet or not? Thanks dusoccer10

No you do the upgrade transfer on Best Buy! Lol

I don't think you understand what my issue is, it will not allow me to transfer through BB because I am on a Nationwide plan and not a More Everything plan. I even tried on Costco but it gives me no other option but to upgrade to a newer plan. According to that BB rep, that is why I cannot transfer the upgrade. The only way I can do it is through Verizon online but it wants me to complete the order on the upgrade for it to stick to my brothers line. I have 2 issues going that route, 1 being the GS6 is $199 and not $1 and more importantly 2 being that I'm not sure if I can still upgrade through Verizon and keep the UDP. I did it in August 2014 but i"m not sure if Verizon has closed that loophole.

Verizon hasn't closed the loophole and being on Nationwide is not the issue. It sounds like that Verizon has put an early edge offer on your brother's line. This is why Best Buy shows that he has the ability to upgrade using a device payment plan. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing this until you try to transfer an upgrade.

When you get into a situation like this, unfortunately, your only option is to use Verizon's system. You'll have to transfer and order the phone through Verizon as there is no way to get the Early Edge offer removed from your brother's account.

When I try to upgrade my brothers line using my moms upgrade the only 2 options for payment are full retail or discount, no Edge monthly payment. Not sure if that is due to my mom not having the Edge available to her upgrade yet. Anyway, it looks like I will go the method I have done before and hopefully it works. I'll post back up with results if anyone runs into a similar issue I have. Thanks dusoccer10 for your help!

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Could use some help here. I'm not familiar with the BB Method. In the past I have transferred upgrades on vzw.com to non UDP lines, ordered a new phone, and then use my current SIM on the new phone, renewing my contract but keeping UDP. Does that still work?? How is the BB Method any different?

Line #1 -- UDP (Month to Month, HTC One M8 needs new phone) ***Upgrade Available***
Line #2 -- UDP (Contract ending July 2016, HTC One M8 needs new phone)
Line #3 -- TDP (Month to Month) ***Upgrade Available***
Line #4 -- TDP (Contract ending July 2016, dummy phone)

Upgrade transfer still works.

IIRC, Best Buy Method means you don't do any line transfers.

Line #1 -- UDP (Month to Month, HTC One M8 needs new phone) ***Upgrade Available***
Line #2 -- UDP (Contract ending July 2016, HTC One M8 needs new phone)
Line #3 -- TDP (Month to Month) ***Upgrade Available***
Line #4 -- TDP (Contract ending July 2016, dummy phone)

On VZW.com, transfer line 1's upgrade to line 4 and get a new phone.

So could I transfer my upgrade from my Jetpack to my dummy phone that's currently on contract and keep UDP on my Jetpack line? Then do the Best Buy Method on the Dummy phone? How do I make sure that I don't pay for data on the dummy phone?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

Anyone know how long this Black Friday deal for the S6 runs? Im still torn on which one to get, the S6 64GB, M9(LOVE my M8!) or?

Re: [Instruction] How to Keep Unlimited Data on Verizon

It is really irritating that Best Buy won't ship the V10 or the Droid Turbo 2. I thought with the V10 it was because of the free TV deal. But they will ship the TV, but the phone has to be store pick up. Is it just because it is so new?
